All season I feel like I have been saying, if that was chelsea....Costa was booked for diving when the keeper actually tripped him at Burnley...Jose must not know whether to laugh or cry

Didn't watch the game but just seen a replay of Rooney's dive, that's pretty much what Oscar was booked and derided for when he went over against Southampton last season... The players "anticipating" the contact and making the decision to go over before there is any.

Don't like it and it's shameful that anyone, let alone the England manager, is defending it.

Nope, there was no comparison. In my opinion Rooney's was far, far worse. He didn't anticipate contact, and get out of the way, he jumped the keeper perfectly... then dived. Simple as that.

Rooney is perfectly able to stay on his feet even after the momentum of jumping over the keeper.

This dive has made be angry. f**k off Rooney and Phil Neville you ugly c**ts.

Interesting how the edit are calling it "evasive action", it's a f**king dive plain and simple. Evasive action is jumping and clearing the tackle,, something he quite clearly could have done.

Rooney dives and no one bats an eyelid in the media! Ivan gets into a scuffle with a few Everton players and everyone wants him banned and says he was attempting to 'bite' opposition players. Seriously I'm sick of this bullsh*t!

If people don't think there's some agenda against our club I'll scream!

Will they ask the Utd manager about the dive ?

Nope, thought not.

Its a case of if they don't ask, it didn't happen. Stan Collymore ripped into him but FFS better role models than that should come out and slam him like they would a Chelsea player.

Some article headlines from the Mail if I may:

'Van Gaal hails 'unbelievable' team spirit after United come from behind to beat League One Preston in Cup clash'

WTF?! They were bloody lucky, they looked disjointed, anything but a team performance.

'After 952 MINUTES, Rooney finally ends United goal drought with controversial penalty to set up FA Cup showdown with Arsenal'

Controversial? Why not say it was an out and out dive? Controversial could mean a foul was actually outside the box or it wasn't handball etc - unless you watched the match you wouldn't know from the reaction he cheated.

'Hodgson: It doesn't matter where Van Gaal plays Rooney, he's still our No 1'

That's it, praise him.

DEEPDALE PLAYER RATINGS: Falcao flops again but Di Maria shows character for Van Gaal

Character?! Again WTF?! Fair enough about Falcao but what part of the game did he watch to make him think Di Maria showed character? And who the f*ck wrote that? Rodgers? The word character is becoming overused.

And this is also the breakdown of the main headline:

Preston North End 1-3 Manchester United: Wayne Rooney, Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera on target as Louis van Gaal's men survive scare to set up FA Cup quarter-final against Arsenal

 - Scott Laird gave Preston the lead after 47 minutes when his deflected effort caught out David de Gea
 - Ander Herrera equalised for the visitors on 65 minutes with a low, curling effort into the bottom corner
 - Marouane Fellaini completed Manchester United's comeback when he poked home from close-range
 - Wayne Rooney won a penalty late on and scored it to seal United's progress to the last eight of the FA Cup
 - It was the first time he has scored in 952 minutes of action for United
 - Radamel Falcao was replaced by Ashley Young on the hour mark after another disappointing performance
 - United will host FA Cup holders Arsenal at Old Trafford in the quarter-finals of the competition

Wayne Rooney won a penalty? Makes it sound like he was actually fouled.

Now I'm going to go and crawl under my paranoid little rock... but even the most hardened of people who think Man Utd aren't favoured or we're treated no differently must note SOME bias in this?! Yes I'm aware they're only headlines and yes I'm aware it's the poxy Mail and yes I'm sure it seems like I've cherry picked and YES I'm sure if I read the article I'd note one or two damning comments but when most people just headline crawl it's a bit annoying that there's no mention of it.

Going to go and sit under my paranoid little rock now.

This.

It goes to show just how out of touch with supporters the players and managers can be.  I think most fair minded supporters detest blatant diving, shirt pulling, wrestling in the box at corners etc, even if it's done by our own team.

It will never stop until those within the game change their attitude, and that's never going to happen.

I understand diving, the stakes are so high nowadays with the money on offer and the margins for victory so slight etc etc but that doesn't mean we as supporters have to like it. I accept that it is very much a part of the game now and no matter what is said or done it isn't going to go away.

But when it does happen players deserve to be called out on it and in truth I found Roy Hodgsons "evasive action" defense of Rooney almost as shameless as the dive itself.

Certain pundits, journalists and media outlets are much quicker to point an accusing finger at the "cheating foreigners" but when England players with the profile of Rooney or Gerrard for example do it the silence can be deafening.

Might need to take your blue tinted specs off for that one Rich, Oscar's dive was pretty shocking, especially as he wasn't going away from goal like Rooney was.

Rooney knew that by going over he stood a better chance of United scoring from a possible penalty than staying on his feet having pushed the ball wide and away from goal.

Both were pretty shameful but England captain Rooney has met a lot more reluctance to criticise him than Oscar did.

Gem is there room for me under your paranoid rock..I waited to see if anyone would ask the human pug, Van Gaal about the dive on SSN this morning but if someone did they never showed it. They did mention he might have dived though, and the Preston manager said there was no contact but he didn't think Rooney dived, it looked as clear a dive as you'll ever see, to me.

I expect when he got home and put the telly on he might have changed his mind..!!

Surely those useless b*stards over on RAWK must be good for something, hopefully they will get up in arms over this and keep it in the public eye...

Gem they are all at it.

It's utter cringe.

If this was a Chelsea player we all know what the back pages would be saying....

I think the point about it being an English player is pertinent. We still have this mentality of lionhearted Brits being incapable of dishonesty whilst swarthy foreigners are always at it. We can all cherry pick headlines and say 'poor old us, if we did it we'd be raked over the coals' but I think there's actually an important issue at the heart of this that all the self-pitying agenda sh*t can mask.

The fact that Simon Grayson came out and said it wasn't a dive says a lot. This isn't just 'the meeja' being kind to United.

Him being captain and English is of course an issue here but I'm not convinced it's just that.

I mean there are countless incidents with Fellaini throwing his arms and elbows about and what gets done? I mean when at Everton he was banned for 3 games for a headbutt but as soon as he goes to United he has had at least 3 incidents where he elbows an opponent to the face and nothing is done.

Compare this to Ivanovic the other week who held a Everton player back in an inicdent and get's hounded by media and pundits alike....Biting, headbutting...you name it.

I can see the bias quite clearly and nothing will change that as it's staring me right in the face. If others choose not to take that line of thought then fine, good luck to them but I know what I'm seeing.

Am I the only one who didn't thnk the dive was that bad? He does dive but I he doesn't the keepers gonna take his leg anyway so it would be a pen anyway. I've always felt that if you jump out the way of someone whose about to clatter you it's still a foul and you save anyone potentially getting hurt.

..... Runs away and hides

You're comparing headbutts and elbows there. How many players actually get banned for elbows retrospectively? Shelvey got one but that wasn't competing for a header.

Actually you had pundits taking both sides of that, as well as fans. Not sure what your point is when he got off of the charge.

The bias on whose part? The media of the authority, and which authority??

Take this for example.

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2836913/Marouane-Fellaini-lands-horrific-elbow-rival-Joe-Allen-s-not-time-Belgian-midfielder-caught-out.html

Fellaini's elbow being called 'horrific' yet UEFA not doing anything about it. Is that because he's part of the Belgium team?

What exactly is it you're seeing?

No, some bloke called Simon Grayson said the same but he's just part of the United/FA conspiracy.

An early contender for Rant of the Week.

Well done Gem.

I've no intention of getting into another argument because it's been done to death in other threads Blue Daze.

You don' think there is a bias or agenda, that's fine.

I do and I keep seeing things that confirm my line of thought, nothing you post will change that ok.

Actually I've acknowledged that there's clearly this issue with English players being perceived one way and foreigners being portrayed in another. That's got a long history going back at least to the mid-80s in football and probably before. In fact it probably ties into deep-held biases in the culture as a whole.

Again Utd play crap and win, it's getting ridiculous!  And how they are 3rd in the prem is beyond me, they're dire.

Rooney dived, the Keeper didn't touch him and Rooney tripped over himself.  However on the other hand the Keeper did come out pretty recklessly so you could say it would have been a pen anyway.

Either way, if it was a Chelsea player we either wouldn't get the pen in the first place and our player would get booked for simulation, or we would get ripped apart by the media in the aftermath and our player would get a retrospective ban and a fine!

Not really. It depends who you play for. Cahill is English and that didn't stop the BBC, Sky and the rest of them going mad about it.

And Terry's treatment over the years, and Ashley Coles.

There must be some sort of connection between them, some common denominator.

Switching back to the media agenda...

No it didn't. Good point.

Anyone else think utd are no longer the most desirable team in england? don't get me wrong, they can afford to buy the big players if they want (although i think the big players would rather play elsewhere in england) and pay huge wages, but in terms of desirability, i think they're losing their stature these days.

it's because the majority of teams in england are overhyped mate. in la liga, with this team utd have now, they would already be mid table, let alone third.
