Brendan Rodgers decides against waking Raheem Sterling for Spurs match

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that he did not pick Raheem Sterling for Tuesday night’s match against Tottenham Hotspur because the striker was fast asleep in the changing room. Sterling, who withdrew from international duty in October due to tiredness, has a camp bed set up in the changing room which he uses for daily naps after training.

‘When we came back in before the game he was still fast asleep’, said Rodgers. ‘My mum always said to never wake a sleeping baby and it’s the same with Raheem. If he doesn’t get enough sleep he can be a real grumpy pants and everyone suffers. And he looked so cute lying there with his thumb in his mouth cuddling his Iggle Piggle teddy’.

Captain Steven Gerrard confirmed to Sky Sports that Rodgers delivered his team talk in a low whisper and that the players were told to remove their boots before coming in to the changing room at half-time to avoid waking Sterling. ‘When we came back in at the end of the match he was just coming to’, said Gerrard. ‘He asked me what the big roar was that woke him up and I told him that Ballotelli had scored the winner. He just thought it was part of some ridiculous dream and went back to sleep’

The incredible thing is I actually believed this as I started reading it - it's the sort of thing I am no longer surprised at!

Well BQ apparently Stirling's training kit is a onesie

Bloody stupid computer - double post.

it's a bit disappointing that Brendan Bingo seems to have died.  He doesn't seem to be saying the right things for me.

He doesn't say the right things for anyone, least of all himself!

If Rodgers wasn't a football manager i could imagine him singing on cruise ships and calling himself Brendan Bingo

5live's commentator said, 'he's wearing a stylish scarf'. All the better to throttle him with I thought.

Saw the match highlights; the ruddy scarf was like him, dull, nothing out of the ordinary.

He reminds me of an embarrassing uncle at a social who still fancies his chances.

Hey Curtis, that "r" needs changed to an "n"

well I'm sure you've said that word alot in the many Lennon and James McClean threads about here sir, did you see Rodgers and Big Neil hugging at the Bolton Liverpool game the other week? a good display of love between paddies, it was good to see. I'm surprised the Bolton fans allowed Neil as their boss given how they abused McClean the other month.

I'm with Gem - how on earth do you even start to comment on that.

If they had the team that they had last year, they might have been able to win the CL.  What did they win last year?  Oh yeah, nothing!
