He was the first striker since DD to score 20 odd goals for us so surely even you can see why there were comparisons at that time especially when he was on form? 

I doubt many will dispute his childish and selfish antics now but let's not just pretend he wasn't absolutely vital for us and a huge player for a good part of previous seasons.

What is totally souring my wine is Diego playing the victim, i seem to remember him paying up as the spoilt twat, when the china bid came in, took a manager of big cajones to tell him to "jog on", and play on, Conte hasn't forgotten, so beware to other big time charlie's....

Spineless media framing the narrative to suit Costa. For over 2 years they kept finding ways to villify him. Diego should have kept his mouth shut, respect his goals and hard work but this is just another one of his attempts to engineer a move again. If he's going to Atleti anyway, i fancy a swap with Griezmann

I was thinking exactly that, put his World cup chances at peril!!!

selling him cheaply now will not help our cause. it will only show that the club can be bent easily if the players want to, and would set a very bad precedent for us. things like this is exactly why clubs let players like Malouda rot in the reserve. i say put him in the reserve and sign Lukaku ASAP to put the nail in the coffin. anything that he says afterwards will not bother us in any way

Rewind to 2006 and the same sentence was being said re Drogba and Hasselbaink. If Costa leaves this summer then he can't touch Drogba but if he does a Drogba style u turn and ends up winning us more titles and a CL, then he would also earn the convenient abnesia blocking out the bad times.

f**k me some of the revenge and hate people want on a man who played a key role that lifted us 2 titles, he might be c**ty but look how it's blown up maybe conte himself could have handled this better, I support the manager but he is fallible and open to mistakes also.

Costa is a turd. but he is our first and we should respect him as a player.

 

Hopefully we sort his exit out soon. With Milan signing Andre Silva it's very unlikely they need Diego now. Just gotten hope somebody with a ton of money needs a striker. 

I'd love to use him to get Griezeman or Saul but that's a pipe dream.

Second best striker ever? Am not old enough to argue the case for Osgood, or Bentley, or Dixon or their ilk but would be interested to hear from our older members on their thoughts on that. 

On a personal level I would personally put Zola and eidur ahead of him for their all around play and Jimmy at least level as a goal scorer. Didier goes without saying. No denying when Diego is motivated he is a lethal goal scorer, it is just such a shame he has no respect for our club or our fans.

Jimmy was actually our best goal scorer statistically, but has anyone of the names you mentioned ever won us 2 titles, sentiment aside he is our second best striker in real terms and I was referring more to our modern era in elite football, not talking about the 50's which I'm sure makes a fan very very authentic, me I've supported chelsea since about the mid 90's so I can't talk about before that, but since then, other than Drog you would be hard pressed to say we have had a better striker.

He already did that because he couldn't lead the line of  the last year's CL winners at 19

And where exactly did I say "he was not vital for us"? Do tell me.

The comparision was horrendous because from the first season onwards, "I want to go back" sh*t started from diego. He was never ever going to be anywhere near the level of DD. 

Like I said, hope he f**ks off and we get a striker who truly WANTS to play for us.

I have a sneaking suspicion some of the players resent Conte and the way we fans treat him. 

Too much have made of this. Conte may have said he wants Costa out because Costa is not committed enough.

I really think Costa wants out. He didn't get it last summer but he really wants it now. I think we need to arrange that. There should be plenty of takers. I really hope that China thing warms again. We'd get the most money and don't have to be afraid Costa comes to haunt us in CL.

Costa is passionate and not well equipped to handle situations like this.

Sounds to me like the perfect opportunity for a swap deal for Griezmann ... player + cash anyway :-)

well it's b.s he didn't want to move to china, it's obvious he did. the problem is, now the china plans are out the window he is orchestrating a move to atletico. if he loved atletico so much, he wouldn't have moved away in the first place. it shows the class between both people to me, costa keeps talking (while already being told by the board they will sort out the negotiations) meanwhile conte has said nothing on any of this and tried to keep this situation between the player and himself.

Lost any shred of respect i had for Diego over past couple of weeks. After everything this club has done for him he should have treated this matter with more decency and kept it private.

 

As others have mentioned, we should use this to engineer a move for Griezmann or another one of their players. I wouldn't mind getting Giminez or Sual from them.
