Chelsea in for Falcao?

Featured Replies

That’s not really fair, considering we had the best keeper in the league this season and it’s hard to argue that Herrera, Smalling, Young and Carrick didn’t shine this year. Even Di Maria, who was supposedly a massive flop, got the second highest number of assists after Fabregas. That’s all away from the point anyway.

He was dropped in and out because when we did give him runs (like when RVP was injured or when we would play both of them with Rooney behind) he did nothing of any note. He really is a completely different footballer to the one you and I remember tearing you lot (and almost everyone else) apart. We created a lot of very very good chances for him, including one-on-ones, etc. but he was always too hesitant or not clinical enough to finish them.

He has completely lost his pace, acceleration and gungo-ho attitude and instinct. Clearly the injury has had a massive impact on his confidence, which is very hard to recover. It is a shame because all United fans wanted him to return to his former self and the fact that LVG played him so much earlier in the season, and consistently) suggests that he also wanted Falcao to return to his best. An injury in the middle of the season did not help either.

Whilst he will likely be an improvement on your academy players (I don’t know how good they are), I would have preferred to have given Falcao’s playing time to Wilson, who has a massive future ahead of him. I’d rather give the opportunity to the young player to step up rather than hoping an old, bumbling and not particularly clinical striker returns to previous form. So I understand what they are saying.

We'll see I guess.

If this was a transfer for him to become our first choice I would be worried, but he would be 2nd or 3rd choice and wouldn't have the pressure that he had to deliver consistently at Man Utd.

Jose will give him the opportunity to get his fitness up and integrate into the team in a more regular way, rather than van Gaal who used him more as a panic option.

I'm excited about this one if it happens

Falcao is done though, that's the point.

He's slow

He doesn't score goals

He's on more money than any of our players

He's turning 30 so won't improve.

There's no way I see him taking a 50% pay cut when he could just sit at Monaco (he's not exactly the ambitious type remember) and earn millions. A loan deal would no doubt be a fee on top of an absurd wage while a transfer would be moronic from our point of view.

Is he going to settle for 3rd place in our side? Will Jose just drop Remy despite Remy scoring more goals in far less playing time than Falcao last season?

I'd much rather stick with Remy and Costa because there's no way Remy will stay if this has been arrives which would be very poor from the club.

The Sheva deal was always supposed to be Roman's work. This one feels very much like as José move. If he thinks Falcao can contribute then I'm willing to give him a chance.

We all are aren't we?

I felt the same way before he came to United, assuming he would come in without much pressure as we had RVP and Rooney to play up front. However, all it took was one injury to RVP and he was required to perform week-in-week out and he didn’t. With Costa being a bit injury prone and only having Remy as back up (as opposed to Rooney), he’d arguably have even more pressure to perform at Chelsea.

If you do get him though, he is a great player to have in the squad, if just for the chants and his general niceness. He is from the Mata school of gentlemanliness.

I wonder if this comes off of it will lead to remy getting game time in one of the wide positions behind the striker?

Maybe an option we use a lot at home and from the bench away. When teams sit back we know he will offer more goal threat than Cuadrado, Willian, Oscar and Cesc.

Hazard - Oscar /Willian - remy

Matic - Cesc

Could work. Gives remy the extra game time Jose said he deserves, gives Falcao more potential game time.

If we sign him I'll support the club but right now I don't want us to sign him

Exactly this, if we sign him then you back him 100%. But at think moment I think it's a mistake.

I know a year or two back he was asked about Falcao and Cavani and said at the time the deals were way too expensive when you worked out the entire outlay over their contract length plus the fee.

He then said this in February 2014: "I have a team, but no striker. Falcao does not have a team. A player like him can’t play in front of 3,000 people"

falcao isn't even the worry, it's other areas of the field i'm more concerned about how we'll strengthen in the summer, especially with it looking likely that so few top players will be available.

Surely thats more of a concern for the other teams. They have to catch us up not the other way around. Sure we need to strengthen but the other teams need to worry about than more than we do.

And let's be fair, Mourinho will never trust youngster in competitive games.

I totally remember Jose trusting in a 19 year old Carlos Alberto. Also remember Jose trusting in Mario Balotelli. Jose picks players that will do a job for him.

Would love it. He showed shades of form but united shattered him. But the whole team was a mess, their strikers were all off the ball. Di maria hasn't fit in and RVP has also been struggling. Falcao showed how dangerous he can be and if we are to get him as a BACK UP striker i would not mind it at all. High wages, no transfer fee but a world class striker coming off a year in the PL, a bad year but atleast he has PL experience.

That was earlier in the year though

Yes. Probably closer to the start of this past season. Not sure why he'd change his opinion of him. We've also had the chance to see how he does in the Prem. Not very well. I prefer we take a chance with one of our younger strikers to compete with Costa and Remy..
