Petr Cech to Arsenal

Featured Replies

I'm sorry but I'm not buying any of this. Jose has come out and said before if Cech leaves it will not be to an English club. Jose is not stupid enough to sell our biggest rivals exactly what they need to be title contenders. Cech is still under contract, he cannot force a move to Arsenal even if he wants too (which, being the loyal Chelsea man he is, I can't see him doing).

It's silly season. Arsenal need a keeper. We have one for sale. The media are stirring sh*t up.

I do hope I'm not made to regret these words though.

It's not the weakening us that's the problem it's how much he improves a direct title rival and it's quite a bit.

When was the last time Arsenal had a world class goal keeper?

It's a poor fee for such a player in todays market especially when you factor in he's moving to a rival in the same league.

I don't like the fact Jose didn't want it to happen but the club have went over his head with this one, there is a reason he doesn't want to sell the best ever EPL goalkeeper to a team who will be a big rival to the title this season.

In terms of what we have done and are rumoured to do so far it's not looking to be a very good window so far, of course there is plenty of time but there is also not very many available options out there that will improve out first 11 IMO.

Overall, I'm against this but the fee isn't poor at all. If it's £14m it's the fourth highest in history for a goalkeeper, with Cech being 33 and having just a year left on his contract.

How many players move between clubs in the same division for as little as £11 million (Several sources seem to be going with 11) especially when they are one of the best in the world in that position?

Sterling is being touted as £40 million and Liverpool are turning down those offers, I'd prefer we stand our ground and keep Cech if need be (£11 million is hardly a great fee for us in any case). I understand the situations are not the same and his contract has years to run on it but the fee seems really low when you are giving a direct rival a world class player who has a few years at the top left in him.

If it meant missing out on £11 million but stopping Arsenal getting a world class keeper who is one of our best ever players then I think that's well worth doing.

I think we all have just about come to terms with the fact that Petr is no longer first choice hard as it is to accept that whilst he has a couple more years at PL level come season 2015/16 end he would walk away if he didn't accept the 12 month contract that, due to his age, would be the maximum contract extension we would offer him .

We have seen the very best years from Petr he is not going to improve and

What we need to do is be proud that our club are trying to do the right thing for the player and yes like most I would be more than happy if he went abroad that is not looking likely so if he does move to Arsenal we need to be respectful to him and hope that he isn't the missing link for them.

In truth I think they have far greater issues and whilst I do see him as a step up unless they address other positions as well as their fundamental mentality

Do him and Cech always come as a pair?

Does Cech insist that he is always his coach?

It sure seems that way. I'm sure Beeney will do a decent job if he stepped up but still, not really the same.

As for Cech himself, I don't really care. He can do what he wants, I'll be happy either way. If he does go to Arsenal and they strengthen, then that's good for us and the league in general, it'll push us to be better and perhaps we will be able to put up a better fight against Europe's elite.

Why not give Liverpool Hazard then on ^that criteria ? Were not here to help the league, bleeding hell.

I want to believe in you, I do hope you are right. :)

Wishful thinking I'm afraid. Everything is pointing towards it happening.

It's been made clear that it's not Jose's decision to make.

It's been made clear that it's not Jose's decision to make.

It's Roman's decision then?

All due respect to the legend that is Cech but we should dig our f**king heels in and refuse to accept just cash, we want Oxlade.

By who? The Daily Mail?

I find it very hard to believe that José doesn't have a say in it. Even if he says he doesn't himself.

I'm one of those who was fine with Cech joining Arsenal (although it's getting harder and harder to stomach the closer it gets to being a reality), but him strengthening them is in no way, shape or form good for us unless we get a player in return. The notion that a more competitive league will make us better in Europe is highly questionable. Just look at the four semi-finalists this year. Two of them have no competition whatsoever domestically (Munich & Juventus) and the other two only have each other.

Juventus did not reach the Champions League final because of Roma. They got there because of what they did. The only way we'll get better in Europe is by getting better ourselves, not by strengthening our rivals. And I don't really think we're in a privileged enough position to worry about what's "good for the league". We aren't exactly Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga, and even they don't help their rivals despite the vast chasm between them (in fact, they do the opposite). This was our first league title in 5 years for heaven's sake.

All that said, if we lose the title next season to Arsenal and Wenger thanks to our 2nd choice goalkeeper, then perhaps we'll need to have a look at ourselves first.

By Jose himself. He's said it repeatedly in press conferences that he does not want Cech to go, but also that it's not his choice to make. I can see no useful reason for him to lie about this.

I'm not particularly bothered about cech leaving as I still don't consider the gunners as title rivals even if they got messi. But my main concern is the relationship between Jose and roman after this. The board have to realize without mourinho we are nothing, not to mention the fact that there's currently a serious lack of good managers out there, so pissing off the best for a traitor who clearly doesn't care about the fans isn't worth it.

I know they're both headstrong and none wants to back down. A seething angry mourinho is not what we want going into the next season.

But back to cech. They say he's a legend at Chelsea but can you imagine Ryan Giggs going to man city because he wanted his family to stay at Manchester? He clearly doesn't care about the fans and for me he no longer deserves to be called a legend.

That is my concern too. Roman is risking his relationship with Jose again and if it all falls down once more we will all be left gutted.

Is his relationship with cech that important that he would risk upsetting the balance of the club for years?

I disagree with your JM comments the reason we got in to such a mess last time with him is that the board bowed down every time he threw his toys out of the pram and kept giving him better contracts so he didn't leave ........then he went too far and was out of a job.

I think your view on Cech is harsh , he has been a great servant for the club and I have enjoyed watching him week in week out in blue , I wish him all the best at Le Arse .

Giggs retired so don't think that is a valid comparison , Cech wants to continue playing

If Cech wants to stay in London, there is not a single thing the club can do about it. They can't hold him to ransom, so let him do what he wants. I do think after all this time that loyalty and sentimental thought should be used to make a decision, but this is the way it is now with footballers.

You just know there's going to be Arsenal fans being obnoxious about this and how 'we got one over on Maureen'.

Shame you can't actually beat him on the pitch. What is it? 14-0 now?

Arsenal already have the most obnoxious fans on social media, they are literally the Dippers of London.
