John Stones

Featured Replies

Martinez seems to think he is in the red half of Merseyside:

"He is one of the most talented centre-backs in European football and we feel we have a special footballer with us. There is nothing to discuss and teams putting bids in for him doesn't mean anything. You're going to get clubs that are working with big budgets because they have been working in the Champions League, but we are a club with nine league titles. We are a big club.

John Stones wasn't even born when Everton last won the league so not sure what significance those 9 league titles would hold for him.

Do not think so this is happening. Everton dig their heels in they are not a club to relent.

Hopefully we have a plan b. I do not see us going to the silly money needed to sign him.

Strange we wouldn't go a few million extra considering we have a record amount of revenue to play with.

We haven't really spent anything yet considering money going out against what we have recouped in sales.

Everton's silly money price is above 40mill imo. All the noise coming from them seem to indicate such a large fee. That would put a huge amount of pressure on him

As good as he is and can be, 12.5 mill Kurt zouma, 40mill John stones. Let's get another of the former.

Sadly any promising English player is going to cost double or maybe triple of those abroad playing in lesser leagues.

I'd not go over £32-34 million for Stones personally, the annoying thing is though that if he continues to develop and keeps the form going you know United will come in and can blow us out the water in terms of fee and wages.

This exactly what I've been thinking. We must have a decent sized warchest available to José unless we are preparing for the stadium rebuild ahead of time? That's the only other way we could be spending that money that I can think of.

It's all gone a bit quiet on the Stones front, I don't mean as in new bids but even speculation, Sky and things don't seem to be speculating the same. I'd rather test Madrids resolve for Varane or even PSG for Marquinhos

Sky have done all the speculating they can until another bid goes in.

Mirror reporting we are after Danny Rose?   In light of probably not getting Stones I guess Dave could move to RB, Rose on the Left and have Ivan play in the Centre....still don't rate Ivan as an RB TBH.

Rose is a absolute BS link. Lazy journalism.

Danny rose...hahahahahhahahahhahahaha...also just as amusing is reading rio 'I'm not a biased pundit' Ferdinand saying stones would be mad to join cfc and should go to Utd instead...of course rio, am sure it's your opinion and not based in any pro Utd anti cfc sentiment at all

I saw that too, gets on my nerves his constant attempts to try and plot against us. Why would Stones be a lunatic to join Chelsea but smart to join Manchester United? If he shouldn't join us fair enough, he should stay where he is.

The only way it makes sense is if you consider that at CFC Stones would be 4th choice this season whilst at MUFC he'd pretty much walk into the starting 11.

I don't think anything Ferdinand said was particularly unreasonable.

“If he goes to Man United, he plays every week so that’s the right club for him. If he goes to Chelsea he’s not playing every week. He’s at that stage of his development where he wants to play every week. If you say to any young footballer to leave a club to sit on the bench, you’ve got to be a lunatic. You have to be.”

This is the foundation of his argument, and he's not wrong. Stones would have to dislodge Terry and Cahill from the first XI, as well as Kurt Zouma, who is a similar age and in a similar position. Man Utd are in a situation where they are genuinely having to shoehorn Blind into the starting XI due to a lack of quality alternatives at centre back.

Ferdinand is right, Stones will want as much playing time as possible, and in his situation and at his level of quality it's not an unreasonable ask. We can't guarantee him that for at least two seasons - Man Utd can.

I think our best option in terms of signing Stones would be to offer to loan him back to Everton until the end of the season so Stones continues to start and Everton have time to find a viable replacement - bearing in mind they've already lost Distin and Alcaraz, as well as the fact that Jagielka will be 33 in two weeks.

Totally agree. I think his comments were pretty spot on, if he came to us he definitely would not be playing every week. Although I rate Stones, he isn't better than Zouma and even he doesn't play every week.

We sign him because we need a replacement, he signs for us because he gets the chance to work & learn off the best!

If he goes to United, the same that has happened to Jones & Smalling will happen to him, thrown in at the deep end and found wanting!

If Rio had gone to United at the same stage in his career, & United had been in the same situation as they are now, he'd have been walked all over!

If & its a big if, Stones wants to further his career at the moment, the best possible move he could make would be to Chelsea, where he will be eased into a team & guided by the best manager in world football & argueably the best centre back of his generation.

Have a feeling that a 32 million bid goes in today or tomorrow. Always felt it will be the amount to get the job done, but with united and city interest who know. Are record with long drawn out transferes is not the best
