John Stones

Featured Replies

The fella is class, he's already a very good defender allied with great confidence with the ball.

Passes well, can carry the ball towards plus doesn't get bullied by forwards and has good pace.

Personally I'd go all out to get him.

I'm not seeing what you are seeing to be honest. The main thing i want from my defenders is for them to defend, i don't think Stones has been very good at that at all so far this season.

It's a game of opinions and what's one mans sausage, eggs, chips & beans is another mans poison.

He still makes the odd mistake, bordering on the over-confident at times. A season next to JT, on the pitch and training ground would have done wonders for him and as much time away from Martinez, who I think is a defensive liability of a manager, would benefit him as a player. He's also been having to play recently with a centre-half brought in by Martinez who looks lightweight, and has been doing bits of his jobs for him. Alot for a young centre-half to cope with, in the unforgiving league he plays in.

He's as good as I've seen comparatively and the player you get now, plus the potential for improvement, sells him to me. Would I put him ahead of Zouma, yes I would, but to buy as a partner for him in the medium, long-term. If you could guarantee keeping the players, we'd be set for 5-10 seasons at centre-half.

Just to correct a couple of points, Stones was booed by a section of neanderthals for doing a few too many Cruyff like step overs in his own six yard box against Spuds, the same cretins hurl abuse at Kone and Howard every home game and given that the crowd is so close to the pitch at Goodison, the players catch most of what is shouted at them. Stones has got a way to go and I think he is guilty of trying to live up to the hype at the moment, sometimes hoofing the ball upfield is the best option and he needs to understand that.

I think he's missed the maturity of Jagielka alongside for the last couple of months, Stones is not ready to lead the line and Fumes Mori, though not a bad player, has limited EPL experience. Where Stones ends up is anyone's guess, few expect him to stay another season at EFC as it looks like the in-coming US owners are asset strippers.

Very lucky not to give away a last minute penalty last night when he lunged in on Sterling and got nowhere near the ball. I was watching Sky's Gillette Soccer and Charlie Nicholas said correct decision by the ref not to give a penalty and then I saw the replay later and thought what planet are you on Charlie?!!

He had a great game last night.

Had Aguero in his pocket.

No doubt why he is so highly rated. But one rash challenge could (and should) have cost them the game. That's youth though and all part of the learning process and he'll be thankful he got away with it this time.

I was listening to the Cheks Podcast this week and Phil Daniels was saying he spoke to Bill Kenwright about the Stones saga in the summer. Kenwright told him what happened but Daniels was sworn to secrecy. He did say that it specifically had something to do with Jose, not our bid.

Would like us to get him, doesn't bother me what we pay because it's not me spending it at the end of the day and I like to see top quality players at Stamford Bridge, would be nice to see a player of ours capable or playing it out from the back.

To be honest though, I actually think we need a new left back more urgently than a centre back.

Considering how many goals Everton have conceded this season, he's hardly had a great campaign. Yes, he could pass the ball and he's English, very exciting  :Connie_threaten:  Let's hope we don't blow our season budget on him in 6 months time.

IMO John stones is not worth 20 million let alone 40 million lol !

We have been mugged off so many times in the transfer market. We need to be more shrewder and wiser in our purchases.

We need a more commanding top top name proven highest quality centre back, some one aged about 26, Established international who is tough and skilful and captains their country. Basically a younger version of JT !!

Scott Dann is actually a better defender per se, and left back?, surely a RB, Dave is a nailed on LB, should of never let FL go back to Atleti, he is having a great season again..

While I do think Dann is a decent centre back, I think Stones is unarguably the better footballer, and of course is seven years younger. It's probably worth noting that Stones would look a better defender if he was under the stewardship of a defensively competent manager...

Credit to Martinez for bringing him through and making him sure-fire starter for Everton, but the sooner Stones is working under somebody else the better in my opinion. God forbid his decision-making is never allowed to develop and he turns into an English David Luiz...

Dave is a right back playing on the left.

I still prefer the idea of getting Christensen back for next season and start trying to integrate him, slowly but surely. Keep JT for one more season and let him learn from the best. I think Christensen will be as good if not better than Stones and we can save ourselves £40M +. It's a no-brainer.

hope your right on Christensen. Thought the same about Kalas, gone on loan at Boro can't even start regularly there. There is such a big gap from u21 football to championship football, let alone premiership.

Not a very good performance from him so far....

He was f**king sh*te. He looks good on the ball but his defending is bad. Like BAD. Happy to let this one slide for 40million if you ask me
