December 18, 201510 yr How is he past it? The dutch team was doomed, their top stars are past it. I think people put too much emphasis on a manager, look at Barcelona, Luis Enrique and Tito Vilanova both won La Liga titles there. Would we have ever considered either of them? no. I know Barca have a stupidly good team, but so did we on paper.. I think the most important thing to come out of this is that the players up there game under Hiddink and results will follow.
December 18, 201510 yr No way Hiddink could have saved this current Dutch team; bar Robben they lack any real quality.
December 18, 201510 yr I liked Hiddink last time and, at the time, really wanted him to stay on. I think given the current mess he would be the right man to come in and "steady the ship". Let's be honest, we are not going to get relegated, we are not going to get top 4, which makes the timing of the Mourinho sacking all the more strange. I would have given him the season and made an example that we do not bow to player power, certainly not mid season. In the summer I would have reviewed the situation. I think we will live to regret not putting our trust in Jose to get us out the mess even if it meant getting rid of some star names and handing Jose some money to add some new life to the squad. But that's for another thread... The point is, I don't think this "interim" appointment really matters that much... the main task is to settle a mess of a squad whilst not provoking a backlash of toxic emotion from supporters (see the Benitez appointment for reference). Hiddink ticks those boxes. He is liked by the fans, knows the club, knows Roman, vastly experienced, will command respect from players. If it works out, give him a 1 year rolling contract. Let's be honest, whoever we get in the summer will be gone within a few years at best anyway, so if Hiddink looks to have made a success of it I would keep him on another year.
December 18, 201510 yr Unai Emery would be a great replacement if we cannot get another top manager. He is young manager and plays great football. He has also won the Europa league with Sevilla 2x and got them into CL. If he is given the opportunity to manage a big club with top players and a good budget, he would win big things.

December 18, 201510 yr Ah the Pep rumours return. Yup he's going to give up the stability of Bayern to take over a club with no European football and no home stadium for three years come the end of next season.
December 18, 201510 yr Yeah but I can see Carlo going to Bayern so that leaves who? It's a mystery. Only problem if Guus stays on he's only gonna stay on for a few seasons then he will most likely retire so we'd be in the same boat in a few years. Since yesterday, we ARE in that boat forever, it's done. We had our elite yacht that just needed minor tweaks to continue to sail like a dream, instead we just decided to throw it away altogether and go back to the neglected boat we left behind. That's the sad state of things.
December 18, 201510 yr Ah the Pep rumours return. Yup he's going to give up the stability of Bayern to take over a club with no European football and no home stadium for three years come the end of next season. Seriously. Unless Roman offers him twice the normal salary and the 10! Signings that he so desires, no chance in hell that he comes.

I know Barca have a stupidly good team, but so did we on paper.. I think the most important thing to come out of this is that the players up there game under Hiddink and results will follow. They have an identity and a set way they want to approach the game, which is why it's easy for them to pick managers who fit that philosophy even if they have never won anything. We don't have that and that's pretty worrying, even City have a philosophy. It means that we have to rely on hiring top managers, who will all have different ways of playing and we end up chopping and changing things far too frequently.

Yup he's going to give up the stability of Bayern to take over a club with no European football and no home stadium for three years come the end of next season. Real professionals get the job done whether they have a homeground or not. Real professionals embrace a challenge. If he doesn't like the look of us now then I don't want him when he does. The one seemingly irreplaceable aspect about losing Jose is that we lost someone who loved the club.. this was more than a job for him, it as his life. But he didn't feel that way overnight, it's our job to be the same club we always are and welcome anyone with open arms. Falling in love with the club is inevitable.
December 18, 201510 yr Guus has confirmed that he's in talks and is finding out more information before he signs. Strange, surely he would know what's going on
December 18, 201510 yr Seriously. Unless Roman offers him twice the normal salary and the 10! Signings that he so desires, no chance in hell that he comes. The 10 new signings part would certainly satisfy the contingent of our fans who want us to replace the entire first XI. To be honest I assumed that quote was either made up or just Guardiola, knowing he is widely sought after, playing hardball to see what kind of outrageous demands he can get away with. That said, I wouldn't say no to us signing Thiago Alcantara (who is, if the statement is accurate, surely one of the ten).
December 18, 201510 yr Anyone know why Pep isn't keen to extend with Bayern? Seems like the perfect job.
December 18, 201510 yr Hiddink: "I want to get some good insight before I make my decision. I want as much information as possible." #CFC (DT) Hiddink: "#CFC are in a bad situation and there are reasons for that. I want to gain some good insights on that before I make my decision" Hiddink: "Whether or not I'm visiting #CFC's next match depends on my 1st conversation. Then I'll decide if I should stay in London longer"
December 18, 201510 yr If anyone can get the best out of this current group of players, it's Pep. Hilarious fast switch! The number of times I've read that about Mourinho, sorry, Jose (you need to be on a first name basis for this)... :-)
December 18, 201510 yr Anyone know why Pep isn't keen to extend with Bayern? Seems like the perfect job. Bored sh*tless of the lack of competition in the league one would imagine. Edited December 18, 201510 yr by the special one
December 18, 201510 yr I want to gain some good insights on that before I make my decision" Is this relating to potential January transfer activity perchance?
December 18, 201510 yr Anyone know why Pep isn't keen to extend with Bayern? Seems like the perfect job. It is well known Guardiola gets bored after 3 seasons and has admitted that his players become complacent and no longer pay attention to the coach. It has been said he left FC Barcelona for this exact reason. I also heard he fell out with a medical team member at Bayern because he wanted his players rushed back to fitness and this is something Bayern medical team could not and refused to do. I do not know for certain the last part but the bit about him becoming bored and players becoming complacent is very much true in his own words.
December 18, 201510 yr Is this relating to potential January transfer activity perchance? i think he's referring to the issues behind the scenes and with certain players. he probably wants to know who, if any, were the "snakes" mourinho was referring to.
December 18, 201510 yr Bored sh*tless of the lack of competition in the league one would imagine. But isn't that perfect? Easy league and keep focusing on winning the CL every year.

December 18, 201510 yr This is the silver lining of Jose's sacking. Always loved Guus! We have plenty of time to find a "more" permanent manager.
