Linked to Jorge Sampaoli, chile manager. Seems a very highly thought of international coach.

I've lost trust in the board's capacity to build for the long-term and ensure sustainable success remains for many years to come rather than going for the quick-fix approach which is great in the present day but detrimental to our long-term interests.

There's no reason to believe that Emenalo's proposed resignation was a stunt to generate and change public opinion of him and the club. He's not a well-liked figure and stunt or no stunt I doubt opinions would change about his role within the club. I'm cynical about the board in some aspects but not in this case to be honest.

I just think Roman is very fond of him for whatever reason but his promotion through the ranks of the Chelsea hierarchy continually puzzles me considering his lack of credentials before he joined the club in 2007 and the questionable decisions and relationships he's had with previous managers since he's been a significant part of the club.

Mate this is your nth post stating your complete lost of faith in board, bemoaning Jose's sack, unprofound criticism of Emenalo. Ever sat back and thought Roman wouldn't be a successful business mogul if cronyism and sentiments are part of his creeds. Me, you and your uncle Jeff has absolute no idea what goes on behind the scenes. Stop making theories about things you have absolute no idea about. Just let the man do his job and if he fails, he will be sacked. Its that simple.

PS: This is a thread about the club's long term manager. There are two 'wonderful' threads to sh*t on the man as much as you want.

It's Scolari all over again isn't it?

Highly respected international coach but been out of club management for a while and no experience managing a European club... What could possibly go wrong?

Yes it is about long-term managers and I think it's relevant that Michael Emenalo's role is mentioned in the search of our next "long-term" manager. After all, if news reports are to be interpreted correctly then Simeone has concerns about having to work with Emenalo which therefore makes this discussion about him as relevant as ever.

I do not doubt Roman's intelligence as a successful businessman but I do doubt his ability to allow the club to reach it's full potential on the field plus I question the people he has working around him at the club. This clearly impacts on our decision on who we may appoint and what the expectations will be for our next prospective manager.

And yes I'm still fuming over Jose's sack but that doesn't mean I won't support the next guy who is charge. As we speak, I'm right behind Guus Hiddink to get us back on track on the pitch.

Interesting there is a thread on Redcafe about DoF, and who will be the first one there.

'Michael Ahamefula Emenalo Has done a brilliant job at Chelsea the past couple of season with them. What I m getting at is that we do not need a world renown name, but someone who perhaps is good at Fantasy football and is not on top of the league just by sheer luck, but with great footballing knowledge.'

Imagine Jose's face if on his first day in the job, he walked out onto Carrington and there was his nemesis at the side of the training pitch.

Yeah, that would be the worry, bringing in an international manager is a huge risk.

Top clubs dont use thier young players anymore? Someone should tell them

How many youth players have come through and nailed a starting slot at Bayern, barca, real, psg, or city recently? Very very few. Cavajal at Real is probably the most recent although he was sold and bought back.

Top teams go out and buy the best players for their first 11, then on a very rare occasion, a gem like muller will come through.

I'm not sure how to word this, so it's probably going to sound stupid, but:

When I think of the idea of a long-term manager, someone here for say, 8-10 years, the key factor in that for me isn't just the success it may or may not bring (although it's obviously a nice bonus), but it's about having some identity, having someone I actually like in charge of the club I support.

The favourite players are always ones who stayed with us for a good number of years - the Lampards, Terrys, Drogbas, Zolas, etc... You build up a a liking for them, and you really believe they care about the club as much as you. Players and Managers who come and go, not staying long, you don't feel that connection to.

Ideally this would have been Jose, as you get the impression he does care as much as us, but that's not going to happen now.

But I'd rather just win a couple of things in the next decade and have a football club full of players and a manager that I actually like, that I'm proud to support, than have an endless parade of people every year or 2 and win loads.

And that isn't just about the manager, but I look at the squad now and honestly I just don't feel any real kind of connection with most of our players. In years gone by the squad was full of players most of us really liked - Cech, Terry, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, Lampard, Drogba, Gudjohnsen, Essien, Ballack, etc... They were leaders on the pitch and they gave everything. Now I look at the likes of Fabregas, Matic, Oscar, Costa and it's just not the same.

Like I said, it probably sounds stupid, but I'm not sure how to explain it.

Club preferences:

1) Pep

2) Simone

If those two aren't available:

- Pellegreni

- Mancini

- Conte

If either of the first two aren't available, we've dug ourselves into a hole really and we will be starting the season with a lesser quality manager.

Is it being reported anywhere other then in the Bild? It's Germany's equivalent of The Sun so I wouldn't take anything they say seriously.

I think there were other sources as well so there may be truth to this.

IMO Guardila needs an already formed team, a spine if you will. We don't have that and we need a manager who can install one.

Urgh...not Mankini. He's a decent manager but terrible personailty. Proper dull.

I want a manager with some character, not some dull 50 year old man.

Yeah, we had one of those.  We just sacked him.  Weird, eh?

Roman has seldom offered a permanent job to anyone who isn't a big name, he chanced on AVB who was an up and comer after winning a treble and Robbie after some fan pressure + winning ol' big ears.

But I think this time he can't pick and choose, it's not pessimistic to say we won't have CL football next season so the best we can probably do is Simeone, if he won't come then it really can be anyone.

I say if Guus does a good job we can give him another year to get us back into the CL and then try again.

Virtually everywhere ;)

So it wont be Pep, which is good - We would need to spend a fortune to get the players to play Pep's style anyway.

Also, I do not want Simeone - I want him to do well with Athletico and give the Spanish dichotomy a  good challenge (Also not a huge fan of his style).

A big NO to Mancini or Pellegrini.  Mancini is rumored to have lost the dressing room with Inter (something for which we sacked our own manager ?). And Pellegrini is underacheiving with a super expensive City squad that I dont know how we will do with a Chelsea squad who are not similarly talented. Plus he reminds me of a Chilean Wenger !!!!

To be honest if guus works his magic & gets this team playing the way they know they can play then give him another yr with maybe jt has some sort of assistent role & why not give lamps or the drogs a coachning role...start from scratch & build within...

Nobody fills their entire team with them but when you have a loaded youth set up like most top teams do a few must get through. Aside from us and City it seems every top team has a few in the team on match days. Id be more than pleased if Guus had 2 of them starting by the end of the season.

Lahm, Alaba and Muller all came through at Bayern didn't they?

Barcelona had Xavi, Iniesta, Messi and I suppose Pique counts too.

Madrid really don't have many and even Carvajal has been dropped for Danillo.
