Antonio Conte - Now Officially Manager

Featured Replies

This is the first time in 20 seasons that I do not have a clue as to where we will finish next season.

Pre abramovic years I was always expecting 6th then after 1st-4th and now I have not a single clue. We are at proper crossroads and we need this conte bloke to work miracles if we are going to get anywhere near the champions league places. Roman needs to stand up too, he needs to spend big to make a statement because if we go into next season with this team then we are bolloxed.  Some bookmakers even have us 2nd favorites for the title LOL.

Pep will get ungodly sums of money to improve his already talented squad. We will not have that liberty.

Very true, if only FFP had been effective. I think being so quick to adhere will/has hurt us in the short term

We needed to make intelligent buys and would have been fine. No need for 100 million every year. 40-50 million net refresh every year would have been enough and is easy for a club aspiring to be top.

We sit idle when on top and pour silly money on the panic buy torreses of the world. The management needs to change.

i like what conte apparently said to the juventus players when he took over after their abysmal season previous. he said something along the lines of "aren't you fed up with being so crap?" made me chuckle, and is exactly what this squad needs saying to them too. how the players can look at, and regard themselves as top players after this season is beyond me.

Being out of the CL for one year will not affect us I'm almost certain of that. Players sign for clubs not just looking at a one year plan. It's a 4 year+ plan and we have the infrastructure and status to attract big names. It didn't stop Spurs and Liverpool attracting some decent players. You just have to spend smart.

The problem we have is that there are 10 other clubs chasing players who aren't there. There are not enough players in the market that are available to improve squads unless you take a risk on an Anthony Martial who proved everyone wrong.

That's why I get so annoyed when posters blame Emanalo for not backing Jose. I said two years ago that if Roman gave me 200m, I wouldn't know how to spend it because there just aren't enough players available in such a competitive market. You only have to look at spending Kings Real Madrids transfer activity last summer to realise how tough it is.

Pogba was there and Emenalo or whoever was an idiot bidding for him on the last day. 90 million and the salary we were going to give him gets you Pogba in July. End of. I get annoyed when posters leave Emenalo blameless

You're an idiot for thinking we could've signed him when he explicitly said he wanted to stay at Juve. If he wanted to leave he would've signed for Barca who also failed to sign him.

I get annoyed when posters live in a fantasy world thinking "hey let's throw 90m at this player and 70m at this player". We do not have a bottomless pit.

Sure. If you say so

Sure. If you say so

Go and do your research on Pogba to Barca and Chelsea. He said he had no motivation to leave Juve and such words im sure Juventus find more valuable than cashing in. His value will not go down anytime soon so there is no need for them to sell.

It's just ridiculous to expect the club to throw £90m at one player who is not even a striker that will score 50 goals a season.

Apologies for calling you an idiot but it was such a narrow minded post.

I was talking about the idiot post and thanks for apologizing. Also, Pogba was just an example. If we had gone as planned in july and I believe Barca approached him later, we would still have had a chance, winning the title and we could have offered him more than Barca if we needed to. Also, Barca is stacked so he will be another cog but at chelsea he would be an immediate star.

I don't even think we should have put that much for Pogba. There are plenty of good options out there who are better than Pedro. Douglas Costa was begging us to buy him but we let Bayern get him instead. Our midfield was crying for a CM as we saw in the tail end of last season. Even someone like Schneiderlein would have been useful but we got absolutely no one to reinforce and that is what burns me.

Fine we couldn't get Stones, but is the next option? Papy? I don't blame Jose to be angry with such management to be honest.

This has been discussed a lot of times so I will just leave it to disagree.

I think the main task is to fix the engine room of the team. If terry stays then I think we can get away with signing a younger, less experienced centre back, marquinhos would be fantastic, or even someone like umtiti.

The defence has been exposed this year because of just how poor we have been in centre midfield. If fabregas is going to be a starter, then he needs 2 players either side of him that can make up for his deficiencies. I'm not convinced Matic is that type of player, and it looks like we may struggle to sign naingollan. They're aren't many top quality players that would be available, pogba is a pipe dream this summer, I like the look of krychowiak and Xhaka, who could both be available, and we have been linked bazoer who looks to be a fantastic prospect that could step next season.

Of course there is the argument that signing marquinhos and bazoer would hinder our acedemy boy's prospects, but sometimes you have to take the gamble. United signed martial despite having rashford on the books, and both have had breakout seasons. Bayern have just spent big on sanches, despite having the highly rated hojbjerg.

It's going to be an interesting summer for sure. Hopefully what ever we do, it goes well, and this season is looked back on as a blip.

If Pogba was unobtainable why did we bother submitting a bid for him in the dying stages of the transfer window?

Same way we pursued Stones and Rooney who weren't obtainable to us.

We've had a few poor summers in recent years and it's us not conducting our business properly from a board level.

Conte needs to work miracles?   We haven't just come up from the championship, nor are we starting with a points deficit, nor do we have players who have never achieved anything.

Roman needs to stand up? I don't know what you mean by that but you certainly couldn't mean releasing more funds?  For what ever people want to say about the scouting, the board, the control of money.. releasing more funds has not been our issue.

Barca approached him and got rejected before July. With the price he's being quoted I'm sure he has the confidence to know he would be an immediate star at any club he joined.

That's the thing. You think there are plenty of options but there really is isn't. There are too many clubs fighting for so few players.

There are so many question marks around Douglas. First of all we don't know if Jose wanted him but assuming he did, he could've easily chose Bayern over us which is easy to understand. If he went to Dortmund I would understand your frustration more. He chose a bigger and better club so we can't really lay blame.

Our signings were poor yes but Jose can't be exonerated as his track record in the market isn't exactly great. I think it's a collective blame for such poor recruitment but I'll say it again, the obvious players who we would all like were far from easy to sign anyway.

There are probably PSG and Real fans blaming the board for not signing Hazard. As Chelsea fans we know he's not leaving so easy for a number of reasons.

You find out that someone is unobtainable after submitting a bid. He was probably a plan b (being such a high price) which is why we left it so late. Late transfers can be successful as we've seen with Ozil and Torres but if the club don't want to sell and the player commits himself then it's nearly impossible.

We've had some poor summers but that is the nature of the market. None of the other big clubs can say their transfer activity was very good.

Also did Jose blame our boards transfers last summer? He seemed pretty confident and happy about Falcao.

The only people I saw him blame was his own title winning squad and the medical staff.

Because blaming your employers publicly is always the right way to go....

Barca has arguably the best player in the world in Messi, Suarez, Neymar, Iniesta, Pique. All world class players at the top of their game. We have....Hazard. Big difference to be called a star no matter the transfer amount.

Bayern were not even interested in him when he was begging us to buy him in December. Jose also expressed that he is a very good player. If we had identified him and acted then, he would have been with us. But we bought Cuadrado instead. We all know how that went.

No one is exonerating Jose. But I am sure he had plan Bs but the board went to Plan Z directly which is their fault for not planning properly. No player is easy to sign, that is why you have a competent transfer team which sadly we lack. Nothing comes easy in life, you have to work for it,

You're right blaming your employees publicly is not the right way to go but this is Jose Mourninho we are talking about. Slating our medical staff definitely wasn't the right way to go, so with him anything is possible. But at the end of the day if he hasn't complained publicly you cannot assumed he was annoyed at our transfer activity or the board themselves.

A star like Pogba I'm sure would rather play with 5 other stars as opposed to one star where he knows he's that good he will shine in either side. If he's worried about not being the main man, then Juventus is the right place for him, hence why he is so happy there.

I'm sure every other manager would praise Costa if asked about him. It doesn't mean they can or will sign him. I would've also thought that Jose endorsed the Cuadrado signing and others since the board trusted him to mould the squad his way selling the likes of Schurlle Mata and KDB.

Nothing comes easy in life. Good to see you realise that as it also applies to players you think we could easily sign like Douglas and Pogba by just throwing a sum of money at them without taking into account many other variables.

Jose spearheaded a plan Z signing in Falcao so maybe they were all singing from the same hymn sheet...

I appreciate what you're saying but you don't bid on a player of Pogba's ability and profile as a plan B.

But that would raise a further question of why did the board leave it so late to move onto alternative targets?

The way our transfers were handled was a compete opposite of the slick, fast and successful transfers of the previous year.

It's frustrating that we don't seem to have any momentum with our recruitment.
