June 29, 201610 yr Imagine it when Costa throws his bib at Conte for subbing him, seriously wonder how those two will hit it off ? I don't think Costa would contemplate trying it. Attitude in any team, corporation, business entity or organization stems from the top. Jose is a great manager. But he was not last season. He was behaving like a 5 year old. It makes sense that those employees "beneath" him assumed they could act in that manner as well. I truly believe Jose will grow and learn from this. But honestly I hope that he continues as last season and we all get to watch Man U implode.Unfortunately I doubt it, he's an egomaniac but he's also incredibly intelligent. Guess we will see which side wins.
June 29, 201610 yr Yeah it's difficult to see him screwing up the United job so badly as he's always wanted it. For all his talk, he never seemed happy second time around with us and I think deep down, he knew he wasn't going to last the 5-10 years that he said. I'm really excited about Conte after seeing him in the Euro's. What I like is that he's a manager on the "up" - Young. Hungry and driven. These type of managers always make the best managers. It's when you get to mid 50's that you become stale. From that perspective, it will be interesting to see how Jose does. I really hope we come flying out the traps come August and the squad are determined to make amends for last season. Against Spurs, they certianly showed that they still had it.
June 29, 201610 yr If Costa threw his bib at Conte, i could see only one outcome, and it wouldn't be a nice one for Diego

June 29, 201610 yr Someone will bleed If costa threw the bib at Conte, Conte would pick it up and strangle Costa to his death
June 29, 201610 yr talking with pedro and azpi. https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CmBhaerWYAABGif.jpg:large That's Fabregas rather than Azpi isn't it? Wonder if he'll get up Arsen's nose at all... Not that I know too much about him, but he doesn't strike me as the type to get into petty little arguments with rival managers. Imagine it when Costa throws his bib at Conte for subbing him, seriously wonder how those two will hit it off ? Costa was fine with Simeone and I feel Conte is more Simeone than Mourinho in his relationship with players. Edited June 29, 201610 yr by Samdwich

June 29, 201610 yr Yeah it's difficult to see him screwing up the United job so badly as he's always wanted it. For all his talk, he never seemed happy second time around with us and I think deep down, he knew he wasn't going to last the 5-10 years that he said. I agree that Jose had aspirations of coaching Manchester United at some point in the future, but I think he was happy to be with us until the last few months when everything sadly fell apart. I thought we were in great shape under him in 2013 and 2014, but cracks appeared in early 2015 despite winning the title, and due to lack of transfer activity and backing from the club in the summer, the club deteriorated rapidly. It was a sad ending to what was once the perfect combination of club and coach being inseparable. Jose left such an indelible mark on the club in his first stint in terms of success and the charisma that he displayed, that most supporters will always love and revere him despite the messy end he endured in his second stint. He's the enemy now coaching a direct rival, but I'd like to think that when all is said and done and the dust settles that we can see that his two stints brought far more good times than bad. Now I'm looking to the future and very excited about what Antonio Conte will bring to the club! A man with passion and most importantly the tactical nous to be a success at our club with the right backing and support network around him. Edited June 29, 201610 yr by Jezz

June 29, 201610 yr BBC: Chelsea's players could be in for a shock when they return for pre-season training under incoming manager Antonio Conte, judging by the words of Italy's Alessandro Florenzi. Conte has steered the Italians to the quarter-finals of Euro 2016, where they will face Germany on Saturday. Florenzi, who can play in defence or midfield, told Uefa.com: "Conte is only tame when he sleeps." He should keep us all entertained...
June 29, 201610 yr It's all one big running joke and he is a very calm and understanding guy. Real buddy to the players
June 29, 201610 yr My only worry regarding Italy's chances is that he is that his training is so intense that there's a chance we might be exhausted, everybody's shift against Spain was heroic. The Chelsea players are certainly in for a shock when he arrives and I just hope that he realises that the sort of intensity of his training combined with the intensity of the Premier League might burn the players out quickly.
June 29, 201610 yr He will adapt, if it's one thing we can be sure of on going on his career so far is that he is pragmatic and is a round peg for a round hole manager.

Hopefully this tournament has taught you something about being patient rather than making a judgement too early?
June 29, 201610 yr Hopefully this tournament has taught you something about being patient rather than making a judgement too early? Probably, yes, although I'd say my reservations were valid. Of course we still don't know how he will do in the Prem but I'm hopeful he will adapt. Here's a good read by Graham Hunter about Conte. http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/new-chelsea-boss-antonio-conte-8310594
June 29, 201610 yr Contes and Italys Euro 2016 formation/tactics explained: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2016/06/11/euro-2016-tactics-italy-go-back-to-basics-with-focus-on-defence/ I doubt this will work with our current squad though, need better central defenders and central midfielders.

Well I'd much rather we had a quick start to the prem and burned out towards the end, than the dross we had last season. At least if we get some early wins under our belts the confidence will cary some momentum to keep us fighting for something
June 30, 201610 yr Considering we got virtually No midweek football next season, I reckon he will get away with running intensive training drills with the players. One of Jose's fault ( even when we won the title) was he only trust the first 11, and played them week in week out, even in the Carling cup matches. As the result, when the first 11 got fatigued and lost form, the reserves got no chance and fitness to maintain that standard. Conte got rotate players, even without CL matches.
June 30, 201610 yr Looking at the way he sets up his teams (both Juve and Italy), I have to say that we are light years behind the desired squad. First of all, Playing a 3 man midfield means having a variety of midfielders in the squad. The way he sets up his team with the likes of vidal and marchisio and asamoah, we dont have a single midfielder who we can call a "runner". Cesc, Mikel, Matic and RLC are our only 4 midfield options. None of them anywhere near athletic enough/physical enough. Our best Left back has gone on the loan to a team that might be relegated next season while we will have either of baba/kenedy play down the left? Our Cbs are poor on the ball, so playing out of the defence is out of question. Plus 3 out of 4 of our CBs are 30+ and thrive with defending deep rather than pressing high. (I am including Ivanovic as a CB). Our right wing-back option is probably our best aspect in the squad. Our striker options are Costa, Batshuayi, Hazard and Traore? Just dont know how we will line up in a 3-5-2. The more I think of it, the more I feel that 3-5-2 is not for this squad of players. We need a CM runner asap, at the least.
June 30, 201610 yr People are just assuming we'll play 3-5-2. Transfer activity so far only indicates one of 2 things. 1) we are playing 2 up top next year or 2) we are expecting/negotiating for costa to leave this summer I think if we are to play 3-5-2 we'll see a lot more transfer activity after the Euros finish. If we dont buy at least 1 wing back, 1 ball playing centre back and 1 athletic midfielder then i doubt we'll go 3-5-2. Can't see Conte playing a tactic that doesnt suit most of our players
June 30, 201610 yr Italy wouldn't beat Belgium they said - Beat them. Italy wouldn't beat Spain they said - Beat them Italy won't beat Germany they said - I will leave that blank lol. Apparently De Rossi and Candreva could miss the Germany game. Tee footballing gods are really testing Conte's abilities in this tournament.

When he started his managerial career at Bari then later Siena his favorite formation was the 442 (with the wingers pushed up to become a 424) which he admitted he wanted to use at Juventus but with the club bringing in Vidal and having average wingers he changed to a 352. Like Coxy said, there's no clear indication of the formation he would be using yet. He's an astute manager,I'm sure he would adapt his tactics to the players he has presently.
June 30, 201610 yr Personally I dont think we can second guess the formation conte will use with us next year, he has favoured different formations at every club side he has been at and arguably the reason the national team uses the same formation as the one he used at juventus is due to having the same back 3 and keeper available to him who he trusts, if he didnt have that who knows how he would set them up. The only thing im expecting from him is to drop the 4231 formation, and play 2 strikers probably with wingers as that is seemingly one of his footballing preferences playing a strike pair up top, so id envisage a 442 with higher attacking wingers than normal maybe or maybe even an asymmetric type formation with hazard more advanced with less defensive responsibilities on the left with willian on the right side sitting abit deeper? who knows! looking forward to seeing what he can do though.
