Not a silly thing to say then.

Well it is when you're saying "time for emerson" just because Alonso made a mistake, when he has been superb all season.

I said this a few pages back, as soon as Alonso has a bad game everyone will want him benched again, he's the only player who gets that scrutiny, he has to play a solid 10/10 in order to get a bit of appreciation.

But i have wanted Emerson in the team for a while, i'm not Alonso biggest fan. Im not just saying it because of Alonso poor performance yesterday.

There was a superb moment in the Man Utd game when Alonso lost the ball on the edge of their box and somehow got stranded out on the right wing. He tracked back and made it about as far as the edge of the centre circle in the opposing half, at which point Man Utd played a diagonal over to the left. Alonso swung wildly at it, and somehow ended up kicking the ball over his own head, playing Rashford through on our left flank (i.e. the area in which you would expect him to be, or at least close to). Hazard then was forced to scythe down Rashford on the edge of our box and picked up a booking.

Brilliantly stupid football, I waited until Man Utd squandered the free kick and laughed my arse off.

A certain thought stream said that Hazard's yellow in the first stopped him closing down Young in the second.

Would expect Sarri to have words on that to work out who should have been covering Alonso going AWOL.

Really unlucky to score yesterday.

That volley in the first half showed some tremendous technique, if that'd gone in it would have been a contender for goal of the season.

Can we all agree that he's a huge liability defensivly now?
Every time we face any kind of decent competition he's targeted and exploited.

If we aim to win anything of note he needs replacing.

The premier league and FA cup weren't of note?

In a back 4 i should have added. In Contes system he always had a CB covering for him.

Doesn’t help that he gets almost no help from the players in front of him.

Hazard drifts into the centre of the pitch and Kovacic rarely tracks back given he’s the most advance of the midfield three.

Alonso gets completely isolated at times on that left flank, I think most left backs would struggle.

but some arses HAVE to have a scapegoat, you know that

It's just easier. If its one persons fault then we can replace the one person and be fine. If it's not one person then the solution is a whole lot harder. Would be so easy if it was one players fault.

Every damn left back gets isolated from time to time in a game of football. Difference being that the best ones can handle it but Alonso crumbles.
And Kovacic is a hard worker that gets down to help most of the time and so is Hazard.

Agree to disagree on that one then.

Alonso finds himself 2 v 1 against attackers a lot more frequently than Dave does on the right. Kante gets back and helps out far more than the left side midfielders do for Alonso.

Looks amazing when we have the ball and we're attacking the opposition. Really seems to struggle when he actually needs to defend though.

We should play him at striker, can't be any worse than what we're currently seeing at no. 9

I think this sums us up as a team... not just Alonso

If we were to compare him to somebody like Alex Sandro, it isn't close. Alonso is not world class.

Alonso has always been this way though since we signed him.

Oh no I agree with you 100% mate, I was just making a point that whilst we move the ball well as a team and look good going forward - our movement without the ball between our defence and midfield seems to be lacking. It was  pretty evident against the Spuds and then against Arsenal, Liverpool, and Utd.
