Wasn't our worst defender by a long shot against Spurs. There's always been an element against him because they wanted a superman or a batman at an inflated price. Alonso was too cheap.

Too cheap? we paid £25m for a nobody. If anything, we overpaid for him at the time.

Defensively, he has become a target, and going forward, he has gone stale. He's killing our attacks because he lacks pace and mobility, he's not quick enough to run at the opposition attack and create problems. Hazard or somebody else will look to flick the ball on or even make a simple through pass, but he doesn't have the pace to get onto the ball quick enough. Lately his touch has been off too which is very unlike Alonso because it's one of his strengths.

I think Emerson would give us more than Alonso at the moment, he's been massively underused since we signed him. It's odd that he is getting such little game time when he looks exactly like the type of full back that would work in this system. Hazard having somebody quicker to link with would surely do wonders for the team too.

I watch Alonso, and his goal threat is real, but he plays like he thinks he's Brazillian, all one paced and no urgency, runs a bit stops, put his foot on the ball, waits a bit then passes it back to Luiz

Really poor once again. Not sure why that should be a surprise to anyone anymore really, he's been piss poor since September.

He can't defend, can't beat his man, can't run like a fullback and can't cross with any kind of consistency. Thats the harsh truth.

So frustrating when there were at least 5 times (probably more) where he had miles of space on the left and put in a poor ball.  Would definitely like to see more of Emerson.

I'd also like to see more of Emerson but it won't happen unless injury or suspension forces Sarri's hand.

Did Alonso get booed at the Spurs and Fulham matches and if so does anyone know why?

He get's dogs abuse pretty much everywhere. What he did is indefensible so I can't say I blame them tbh.

Like the opposition fans care about the poor girl that died in the slightest. Just an excuse to have a dig at one of our players. Poor form from the fans.

Because we’ve never done that before...

Unless Alonso is given that inside full back role, where he can drift inside of the box, he's close to worthless. Also, teams are giving him the Bosingwa- and Ivanovic-treatment by not pressing him when he has the ball wide. He could try until tomorrow to dribble someone from a standstill and still come out unsuccessful and his crosses are awful. The last point I would argue is that he steals the width of the team, making our arguably best player, Hazard, have less space than what he could have. And these are only his offensive problems.

Palmieri could or could not be the answer, but there are cruise ships with a better acceleration rate than what Alonso's got.

Alonso is obviously tired and you gotta hold your criticism a bit and think about the circumstances around his case.

1) We need him to be huge part of our offense, because Azpilicueta is a non-factor there. We all saw how upset Hazard was yesterday when there was a free space and Azpilicueta didn't bother to go(Hazard had to yell at him to make him move his butt). Sarri knows that, his teammates know that and Alonso knows that. Huge responsiblity on his shoulders, and lets talk right, his physique is not at his peak if his peak has ever been good anyway. Sarri ball and high possessive percentige football requires a good wing-backs especially in offense. And Alonso is our only one.

2) Kante is not there. We have ultra defensive Azpilicueta with Kante around him and we have Marcos Alonso forced to play deep and nobody around him. From Kovacic - no help or very rarely, from RLC and Barkley - even worse. Imagine now this tired guy, with his questionable physique to have to take care of the entire wing against fastest players of the opponent.

3) and we do see this extreme effort from him three and half months non stop. Don't say Emerson and mid week games, it is still exhausting. He also started to get place in Spain national team...

Sarri is failing the rotation. He needs to make mix between the players and their duties throughout the weeks and the mid week games, because it's definitely not the same effort and pace and most importantly - the numbers. the week-end games are still more. What is he going to do now, when we have 3 or 4 times games in Premierleague on Wednesday?

the only spot that has been rotated is the third in the mid and now we see good games from Ruben, Barkley and Kovacic at moments. Pedro for Willian too and that's it. Everybody knows the rest 9 guys of our starting line-up.

Rotation should be incorpotated not only for the Europa League and CC but also for the PL.

His worst game in a long time against Fulham.

I’m a big fan of Alonso but he’s out of form and Emerson is a competent player in his own right and I think he deserves a chance against Wolves.

Can’t keep picking out of form players.

Even blaming Azpilicueta for Alonso's poor form now too.

Azpilicueta has looked a lot better than Alonso going forward in recent times, he's looked better defensively too. Azpilicueta has been swinging crosses in and taking his full back on, with less space than Alonso is getting. Azpilicueta is actually getting into dangerous areas, Alonso can't even get on the ball in dangerous areas anymore because of his lack of pace, when he does get into dangerous areas, he can't do much because he isn't quick and mobile enough to do anything, so he just passes it back 5 yards. I like Alonso, he's been a very good buy for us, but an attacking full back needs some pace and they need to be able to twist and turn easily, it's needed in the long run or you're eventually going to get found out, which is what happened for large parts of last season and now this season.

Oh come on! Without him we would be 6 - 9 points further away from the top. Apperently everything a player has done is forgotten after 2 months. In the first few games he won us penalties made goals and assits, Azpi contribution is only now starting to shine.

I dont really know what Emerson did against PAOK that warrants a fixed start.

I get that Alonso, because of his incident is hated by opposition and own fans but honestly what else should he do, stop football and become homeless?

Azpilicueta's inactivity made Alonso do a lot more things than he wass prepared. And now he is comatosed because of that.

Yes, he's got 2 or 3 good runs deep in the opponent's half but that's it. Generally tha area where he is supposed to be is empty and you could have seen that easily in Hazard's reaction.

This mindset is what kept Ivanovic putting in 2/10 performances for half a year. Past performances mean f**k all if you aren't performing when it's needed. Might be hard to believe but form from August isn't going to win us points in December.

As i've said before. We'll not win anything with him as our LB in a back 4.

Hopefully more people have realized that by now. He needs replacing.

Poor again. Emerson should get a chance.

I would love to know what it is about Emerson that has left him with limited chances with us. He's almost been here a year now and he's barely played. He had a little run at the end of last season and he looked really good and he's looked good with the small number of chances he has had to play so far this season. So why hasn't he seen a single minute in the Premier League? I just don't understand it. He's even behind Zappacosta and I just find that very hard to understand. Zappacosta is one of the most average players we have in the squad. He's not bad but he's not good either.

Emerson deserves a run in the team, and not just one game and then dropped again either. He deserves a chance to actually get a handful of games in a row, because we aren't achieving anything with Alonso any more. He's been found out in attack and defensively he is a target. Emerson may not be the answer long term, but we'll never know unless we play him. He was highly rated at Roma and was tipped to go on and become a top player, so let's not lose yet another player that could potentially go on and be great at another club.

I love Alonso but I don't understand why Emerson doesn't even get a shout, he should've had a full game today.

Sarri said he had a minor back injury after the Fulham game. He's either out of form or the injury is affecting him.

Either way, we've got a perfectly decent replacement in the squad and the apparent refusal to use him is just baffling.
