Interesting, with a year they would be wise to take some money if he wants out, or hes free next year... 

Matt Law reporting that we've submitted a £35m bid for Oxlade-Chamberlain and we're hopeful of signing both him and Drinkwater before the end of the transfer window. 

Law also says that Conte is pushing the deal because he likes his versatility.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger wants Arsenal star Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to sign a new contract and says the winger has a ‘responsibility’ to the club.

The 24-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and has informed the club’s heriachy that he has no plans on signing fresh terms.

Chelsea are interested in signing the England international but had their opening bid of £25million rejected by Arsenal.

Wenger signed Oxlade-Chamberlain in a £15million deal when the winger was just 17 at Southampton.

And Wenger says players like Oxlade-Chamberlain have a ‘responsiblity’ to the club and says the team can be built around him if he stays.

‘I want him to stay,’ said Wenger.

‘He is one of the players the team needs to be built around. I want him to commit to the club.

‘I want to keep my best players. I want to keep everyone on board We invested a lot of time and money in players like Alex.

‘For me they have a responsibility. to the club. I am highly determined to keep him.’

Chelsea are expected to submit an improved bid for the winger this week and are willing to stretch to £35m.

Oxlade-Chamberlain’s representatives are due to meet with Arsenal officials this week and if there’s no progress in contract talks then the Gunners may sanction his departure.

Should the club block his move, they face losing Oxlade-Chamberlain on a free next summer.

You can imagine the psychological pressure the lad will be put under for the rest of season by Wenger if he is forced to stay...don't see why he can't buy his way out of the last year of his contract...?

So why's he playing him at LWB? 

If he was central of Wenger's team he wouldn't use him as a utility man, he'd be playing consistently in one position in the team.

Seconded he covers all of our lack of depth (although someone more natural at CM will probably also need signing) is homegrown and is someone I have always thought will be good.

Wenger's comments would appear to me to be a desperate last ditched attempt at keeping him at Arsenal. The guilt trip laid down is quite astonishing.

I reckon it's Wenger's last season, despite having signed a 2 year deal. He's clinging on to all his players for dear life knowing they go next summer. 

Does seem odd that he's willing to let Oxlade, Sanchez and Ozil all run their contracts down. Presumably one last attempt to win something and then he doesn't care what happens with whoever takes over from him, and is happy for them to go for free. Putting his own attempts at glory ahead of the long-term future of the club.

Seems like the sort of thing that w**ker would do to be fair.

Reports suggesting AOC has rejected the Arsenal contract. The lad wants the move for sure. 

But does he want to come here and still be a rotating player, or step down a level and be first choice?

The more this saga goes on the more I think it may work out for us. Victor Moses 2.0 would be a good outcome

I remember reading somewhere that this is a power-play by Wenger. He knows that if he lets one of Ox, Ozil or Sanchez go then the two remaining will kick up a fuss and demand why they aren't allowed to leave. It's pretty clear that they all want to move on. 

I reckon if Ox comes to us it'll be a last-minute deadline day signing so he can say to the other two 'sorry guys, it's too late for you to leave now'.

Don't think there's a Champions League team that he'd have a better shot of playing week in week out for than ourselves.
