The player and his representatives will only be brought in for discussions with the potential purchasing club once the two clubs have agreed a fee." I stand corrected.

July 25, 20196 yr It never works like that in real life though. Clubs often won't bother making a bid until they have spoken to the players agent to make sure they want to come to them and see if they can meet their demands.

The Griezmann saga is a great example, Barca clearly had an agreement in place with him well before that release clause was reduced. I’m glad Atletico are willing to go toe to toe with them as it’s a shocking way to act towards another football club. Agreed, I just feel the way they go about doing things is very underhanded and sneaky. Lacks professionalism as well. Really?! I don’t recall Chelsea managers/chairmen ever being so brash about signing players and bids we’ve made on players. The talking to agents etc I can believe we’ve done and many other clubs as well but the way Bayern come out in to the open media and actively try to unsettle players so that they force a move or they can get them on the cheap is a bridge too far for me. I’ll be delighted when CHO officially signs even if he doesn’t become world class just to know we’ve stuck the finger up to Bayern despite their best efforts. Stones is probably the most recent that springs to mind. We were caught tapping up ashley cole, and we were selling Robinho shirts before we signed him. The ban we have currently is a clear indication we dont always play by the book. We have a bit of previous, even it isnt as brazen as the european sides. Madrid and Barcelona are very public, usually because there presidents need to push narratives for re election. Bayern havent really had the pulling power recently to poach players from outside of their league, so i guess it is interesting to see Bayern use the same tactics with us, that they have used with the rest of the Bundesliga for decades. If we had used the same tactics to poach Bayern's best youth prospect, i wouldve been very happy to get the player at the end of the day.

I thought the Robinho thing was that we thought the deal had been done only to be shafted by City at the last minute... even he thought he had signed for us when he was interviewed off the plane... that said bullet dodged there,

This also makes it interesting how transfers are reported in Europe (well everywhere to be honest). You see reports so often of a club (Barcelona, Man City, Juventus etc) have reached an agreement with a player for wages but then they go on to say that they haven't spoken to the parent club of the player. I'm sure there are workaround for clubs and idk how it affects the rule if they player and his representatives reach out and make contact with the other club.

That would be an incredibly weird thing to do if it wasn't essentially done. He doesn't post that many pics, so it is a statement. Also the BBC very very rarely publish a story if it isn't true. Celebrate away. Still nothing official, so I wait ?

July 27, 20196 yr If it’s true that him and Willian are both super bothered about the number 10 shirt then they both need to grow up. At least with Callum he’s still a kid, Willian has no excuse.
July 27, 20196 yr It goes on all the time. If you speak to people in the industry they will tell you this manager or that player is going to x y or z days or weeks before it happens.
July 28, 20196 yr I don’t understand why people think this “tapping up” via the media is worse than doing it behind closed doors, which we have been found guilty of in the past and I’d be amazed if this isn’t still widespread with all top clubs regardless of the rules. Actually I found the way Bayern handled the CHO situation in January to be a very typically German way doing things. They tend to be a lot more direct and upfront than Brits are.
July 28, 20196 yr So despite all those sources the other day claiming he'd agreed a new deal, we are still waiting. These newspapers and websites know nothing.

July 28, 20196 yr Here's what Frank had to say about the situation: “I think agreed would mean signed so we’re not quite there but what’s very clear is the club are working towards that. Talks moved on very well in the last week or two but it’s not done yet. “The one thing that’s clear to me is I want to keep him here. He’s a player we cherish. Players who come through the academy are the present and the future of the club so we’re doing everything we can to get there. I hope it’s news to be confirmed soon.”

From what I understood the finances of a new contract were agreed in principle. The contract itself is now with lawyers from both parties to do whatever lawyers do. The actual signing of the contract is expected before the start of the new season, some saying an announcement could be made this week.
July 29, 20196 yr Not sure if it has already been mentioned but one of the Chelsea TV lads mentioned pre-match vs Reading that he was pleased that CHO had signed a new contract, take that as you will.

I'll trust Frank's comments over Chelsea TV lads. I'd love to know what the hold up is. Can't help but think his negotiators are being difficult and overplaying their hand.

Heard it too and never seen any official news. Anyway seems a done deal for 5 years.
July 29, 20196 yr Lampard was then asked about the ongoing contract negotiations between the club and Hudson-Odoi, following newspaper reports last week that a deal was imminent. ‘If he had agreed then that would mean he had signed and we’re not quite there yet but it’s very clear that the club are working towards that. I think talks have moved on very well in the last week or two, hence why the headlines came out, but it’s not done yet. ‘The one thing that’s clear for me is I know I want to keep him here and the club wants to keep him because he’s a player we cherish. So not done yet but it seems it will be very soon.
August 2, 20196 yr This has turned into fiasco. There comes a time when a player has to commit to a team. Not just a club, but a group of players who as a team are looking to work together to achieve great things. At the moment Callum isn't doing this and he's risking his position within the group. I know he is injured but the rest of the squad could be watching and thinking "what's going on with Callum?". They may well question his commitment to something they have all bought into. Callum has left it so late now I think there will always be questions about his commitment to club and the team. How the club react to this is a problem. It depends on how they value his services over his financial value. It becomes more of a problem when you consider the injury. How bad is that injury? Will it re-occur? Is he another Sturridge? The article below suggests Chelsea have to sell before the window shuts. I have said this before and other posters have highlighted that a fee would still be due and he wouldn't go on a free at the end of his contract because a fee would be due as valued by either the FA or UEFA. ( Or an independent arbitrator, I don't know which). Whatever the value it will be substantially below market value and Chelsea will miss out financially. Right now it looks like Callum doesn't care about this either. https://theprideoflondon.com/2019/08/01/callum-hudson-odoi-will-not-sign-chelsea-must-sell-window/ What does Callum care about? Apparently it's really important that he gets game time and wears the number 10 shirt. Does he want it written into his contract that he must play if fit? No club on the planet will do this. Frank has spoken in very favourable terms about this and he shouldn't have problem. The shirt number isn't worth falling out over so it has to be money. The fact that Chelsea have allowed this to carry on for so long leads me to believe they are prepared to lose out financially were he to leave at a substantially lower figure next summer. At least they get something and by then they would have much better idea of how injury prone he may or may not be. If he comes really good in the second half of the season I think they can still negotiate new contract with him next summer. If he looks like a crock or just plan poor they will get a much reduced fee from elsewhere. Cullum's management at some point must realise they are playing a game of risk they could lose. What if he has another injury and/or Bayern and others lose interest. (Bayern already seem to be tracking Sane). His management team alone are starting to look like serious baggage. Callum comes with issues and he's only young. Why they haven't accepted the reputed £120k a week is bewildering? I don't know how much he is on now but I suspect it's at least £100k a week south of what is on offer. The delay has probably already cost him a £1million. Maybe it's Chelsea who are driving the costs down. Maybe they are viewing this in different way now the injury has come into play. Certainly most clubs do not want to buy a seriously injured player. I know Lazio bought a crocked Gascoigne but we are talking about bigger sums of money on an unproven player. Chelsea may take the view that the price goes down because of the increased risk and if he wants to leave next year on a reduced fee let him. They could probably save over £5m on wages this year anyway. Whatever happens I think some collateral damage to Callums character has already occurred.
