We've got a new Kepa

The club has fined him, he has apologised, I think that should be enough. It's best for everybody if we just move on. We gain nothing by dragging it out any longer.

Yes of course it's enough Scott, anyone asking for more are obviously not thinking straight, we're going to need him to pull off some saves tomorrow night.

I hope they do some substitute training today, get Kepa to understand, when you see #1 light up on the sidelines, get off the pitch.

I also hope Sarri/staff have a word with Cesar about the situation with him being the on pitch captain not dealing with Kepa as his duties dictate he should.

IMO Azpilicueta isn’t strong enough to take control of situations like the Kepa one, David Luiz or especially Rudiger would make a better captain imo.

Sunday has really shown that Dave isn’t captain material

Think he will get booed still at the beginning. I'm in two minds whether that's a good thing. Let kepa/team know the fans have an opinion

he may get a few muffled boos, mostly drowned out by the mutterings under our breath from the rest of us , nothing too bad, then box it up and move on.

Agreed. It is done and handled probably as best as everyone could after the fact. But it will not stop me thinking about how 1) A player could possibly do that 2) How Azpi handled it. I honestly wouldn't object to him being stripped of the captaincy next season.

Club have handled this just about as well as they could have done.

A fine and an official apology from Kepa... What more can we realistically ask for?

If i was to put myself in his shoes i would think about writing a small apology out to the fans and getting it printed up quickly for the programme tomorrow night. Nothing cheesy just a simple "i let you ll down and will be doing everything i can to make it up to you all"

I wouldn’t be against dropping Kepa for a few games just to set an example to other players.

I think the club have handled the situation pretty well though, and it’s all down to Sarri now. I can understand if he keeps him in the side, or drops him. Whatever happens we need to focus on winning games.

Isn't that what he's already done via the club website which has a wider reach than the match-day programme? I think the club have handled it well. Kepa's done the right thing by admitting he was in the wrong and offering a formal apology to everyone.

‘I was very happy to play in my first Cup Final for Chelsea yesterday and very proud of the team performance. I have thought a lot more about yesterday’s events. Although there was a misunderstanding, on reflection, I made a big mistake with how I handled the situation. I wanted to take the time today to apologise fully and in person to the coach, to Willy, my team-mates and to the club. I have done this and now I want to offer the same apology to the fans. I will learn from this episode and will accept any punishment or discipline the club decides is appropriate.’

This was handled the right way, time to move on I think.

What will be interesting is to see if Kepa gets a game in the Europa League.

That is where he may be dropped for the rest of the season. That would be a suitable punishment that won't be noticed by the press and be nice for Willy.

Well, judging by some of the comments on here the other night, for Kepa to be tarred, feathered and never play for the club again.

Well, he was a very naughty boy

Tbh i would be on the pitch -mic in hand - giving an oral apology, written apologies are soulless.

Fined, apologized, should be the end of it and move on to the next game. Let's be honest, only someone as stupid as Chris Sutton would say ban Kepa forever because he's this and that.

If that's what Sutton said then i fully expect Kepa to be our next captain by the end of the season, just as i now expect Sarri ("he's done", "gone tomorrow" etc) to be Chelsea manager for a very very long time.

Should of banned Chris Sutton from team after half a dozen games when he was with us due to him being sh*te

His first game against Sunderland, when he was through on goal and tripped over his own feet, was a sign of what we bought for a big fee back then of £10 mill

I'd drop him for Spurs at least. Big big game and he's took the piss and possibly lost us the final.

Money is nothing to these players so it needs to be more. Clearly we can't go overboard but if we're keeping Sarri he must be allowed to show some authority.

The silly thing about this is the aftermath when you have ESPN FC pundits like Craig Burley and Steve Nichol talking about what Simeone would have done in that situation and how he would have dragged the player off.

Yeah, because all you need is the coach coming on the pitch (not allowed anyway) and dragging a player off causing even more of a scene and probably making the player feel resentment towards the coach.

Simeone would have reacted exactly the same way as Sarri. No idea what anyone expected Sarri to do. He can't come on the pitch or he would have been sent off.

And then before that, Steve Nicol was talking up a load of rubbish saying that Jorginho deserved a red for a professional foul to stop a Man City break. What an absolute idiot. Even Craig Burley was shaking his head, saying that if that was a red, then no game would ever finish with 11 men on either side!

I have no idea why I keep clicking on these ESPN soccernet videos on youtube. The amount of BS from their supposed experts is sad and hilarious at the same time.
