It's his first experience at this level and you would hope he would learn a lot from it. I agree with you Scott. I have high hopes for him but last night wasn’t a great night for him. His yellow card was a bad tackle, it looked like he went over the ball completely. European refs usually have less tolerance for that than in the prem. He looked pretty slow last night and a bit reactionary. He’s just back from injury though and to get his first couple of games under his belt will have done him the world of good.
October 3, 20196 yr Felt a little sorry for him last night as he seemed a little lost in the WB role however he did improve as the game progressed, his biggest asset is his unpredictability when it comes to cutting inside or providing width on the outside however as a WB he seemed hesitant in his decision making as his role was mainly to provide width and a lot of the time he seemed halfhearted in his endeavors on the inside. Unlucky about the yellow as I think that was the main reason Lampard opted to take him off as opposed to Alonso, hoping we see him on the weekend in his preferred RB role in a back 4

Unlucky about the yellow as I think that was the main reason Lampard opted to take him off as opposed to Alonso, hoping we see him on the weekend in his preferred RB role in a back 4 I saw only short clips of the match yesterday and yet noticed one of his crosses which was superb and on another day would have created a goal. He put it in with pace in that area just between the defenders and keeper just needing a tap-in. He has potential hopefully that will show better in other matches.
October 4, 20196 yr He definitely looked off the pace. A bit sluggish in his movement. Slow on the ball, wanting too much time. Not really getting forward with as much gusto as I would have liked, but all unsurprising given the circumstances.
October 5, 20196 yr Yep echoing the sentiments on here. Looked off the pace but showed what he is all about in moments. Great crosses and that will be such a weapon in the future. I do think players like Reece would benefit from just playing in the same system constantly. I like the adaptability different systems give us but chopping and changing too much can be bad as well.

October 10, 20196 yr Nothing serious apparently according to Nizaar Kinsella and should be back in training next week. Hopefully it is just one of those 'international injuries', if you get what I mean.
October 11, 20196 yr Am I the only person who was actually impressed with his performance against Lille? I'm surprised in how much criticism he has gotten from that game.

Agreed. It is funny to see the contrasting opinions. I remember after the game, RIo Ferdinand was singing his praises and said he had been fantastic to be precise. I thought he was very good.

It was an extremely tight game and every player was losing the ball, it was one of our biggest battles this season and I thought James did really well, whipped in the best crosses and the only serious error he made was giving the ball away on the edge of their box when he tried to cut inside, besides that he didn't do anything wrong. The yellow card he recieved wasn't his fault, it was a terrible ball by Tammy and James did what he had to do, cut them down on the counter attack, besides that he did a great job. I thought he was one of our best players at the back. The only issue with that game was that we went wide, makes sense giving the pace Lille had, but we were overrun in the middle and our wide players weren't having a great impact on the game, I would say James did a lot better than Alonso and I'm one of the few who rates Alonso on this forum.

Don't think he was good or bad. Good cross like you've pointed out but looked very cautious on the ball and scared to take on his man. Certainly not a bad game though.

Fans have taken to overanalysing every performances, perhaps since every game became available to be watched. Some fans expected there to be a noticeable improvement from Azpi which is a mad view to take when hes come back from injury and never played at this level. He played well enough, he didn't look out of place, thats all i expected and hoped for.

That's the exat reasons why i don't rate CHO as much as other posters on here. In league game he's always looking to pass or create a bit of space to get a cross in but never runs at the defender and beats him with a bit of skill or pace like Sterling does.

CHO is 18, and his stats are absurd for somebody that age with limited playing time, the same game you're criticising him for is the same game he assisted the opener. I thought he had a solid game besides the chance he missed and a misplaced pass here and there. Cut him some slack, the kid definitely has tonnes of potential to be playing like that at that age.
October 12, 20196 yr He never runs at defenders and beats them with a bit of skill? Is this the same player we're thinking of. He's direct, has pace, tricks, can pass and cross... Defenders seem frightened of him because of those reasons. Only things that stops him from being a star are injuries and any sense he might have that he's already made it to the big time and can stop pushing himself.

The performance against Grimsby was very good, which might explain the expectation being high despite the lay off. Grimsby to Lille away in his CL debut. Big leap. They have a couple of very good young players who look like they'll be around a while and be playing at clubs bigger than Lille.

Your profile pic is Khabib, mine is Ferguson... So are we supposed to hate each other from here on now? 😉

Most of the dislike of Callum comes from the contract situation, it shows how stupid some people are that they channel that hatred towards his footballing abillity when it's completely irrelevant.

Yes, he's got a bit of pace etc, but you haven't actually denied what I said about him not taking on and beating defenders.0

Have a look at the video, just the first two minutes alone - scratch that - even the first minute, then tell me how many players he goes past with a trick, his pace, a turn, etc, or a combination of those things. He's very, very good at beating defenders, he's leaving players behind like they aren't even there.
