Our worst transfers?

Part of me has a sneaky bit of respect for Winston, getting the contract that he did then taking his 30k per week and refusing a transfer... "whats that I have to play with the under 12s OK no problem, just remember my wages on Friday"

I cant agree with that. The club couldve easily gone bust, everyday people at the club couldve lost there jobs, while bogarde already a millionaire collected 40k a week, after being told to find a new club for years.

We should never have given him that contract, and he was within his rights to take what was legally his, but from a moral stand point, he was a bit of prick.

I was so pumped when we signed Shevchenko. I thought he was gonna light the god damn world on fire for Chelsea, butttttt nooooooooooooooooooo

I thought the same after his goal at community shield. I thought he was going to go on a scoring run and cement himself as one of the greatest strikers to play in the league. Only if we signed him a few years earlier.

Shevchenko, Torres, Bogarde, Drinkwater...................... ???????

Have you all forgotten about Chris Sutton, 1 goal in 28 starts, all for £10million.

I was just about to post similar. Crying all the way to the bank.

You can’t hurry Chris...

You’l just have to wait...

Goals don’t come easy...

Its a game of give and take...

Robert Fleck wasn’t much better.

Unfortunately negatives overweigh any positives with Nando x20 atleast.

People will say for example Juan Cuadrado was worse and if they look purely on performances alone they maybe right, but as sh*t as Juanny C was ultimately he was here for six months and didn't really effect our performances as it was a period we won the PL title comfortably. Not only that given all the loan fees we would have made a minimul loss at absolute worst, same with other flops like Bakayoko, Morata.

Torres was like a weight around the neck until the day he left and he held us back as a team and a club. It was pretty clear early on that we not only had absolutely no chance of recouping our money for him we would have been lucky to get anything atall, which meant we had to give him numerous chances to try and get our moneys worth and with it, lost Sturridge alongside chances to get other strikers in (Falcao, Cavani, Aguero).

Pound for pound he's probably the worst signing in not only our history but the history of the PL, only Alexis can make a claim to be as bad/worse in my opinion.

I just felt a bit sorry for Torres. A truly great player seeing his form and ability fade away in what should still have been his peak years.                                                                                                                Sheva's legs had gone and  it was obvious he'd never be the same again. As we know, Chelsea denied Torres had physical problms, saying he passed all the required tests.  So what in the hell did happen to him? Could it be as simple as him just losing confiidence? That open goal aginst Uttd was eeeek!!!!! He did show moments and even periods in some games of the old Torres, so i can understand why we kept him longer than we should have. So yes, a flop signing, but for me a sad and frustrating one who did at least contribute something in big Euro moments.

Worst transfers in my time watching Chelsea.

Chris Sutton, signed for £10m, was getting chances laid on a plate for him and he was basically inept. £10m at the time was a huge fee and a massive investment by Chelsea and Sutton became a massive burden. He ended up getting minutes in defence to try and justify his being there. A year later we invested £16m in new strikers having taken a £4m loss on Sutton shipping him off to Celtic. We signed Gudjohnson for £4m and Hasselbaink for £12m which ended up being two of the best bits of business we ever did.

Cuadradro, I think we paid £27m for him and he was sh*t. Watching him you wouldn't believe he was an actual professional. Looked like he had won a raffle or something with the opportunity to play for us. It was like some sort of sick joke watching him play. Worst player I've ever seen pull on a Chelsea shirt.

Boulahrouz, bought by Frank Arnesen for £9m he was just a liability defensively and he wore the number 9 shirt as a defender, which is just tragic.

Shevchenko, Torres, Morata. To think that we spent £140m on three strikers, every time making them a record signing and not once did any of them manage to be decent at goal scoring let alone anything close to prolific. When I think about strikers that signed to rival Premier League teams during that period that have been massively successful you can't help but weep about how incompetent we've been at signing strikers.

Baba Rhaman, I think we spent something like £20m on him and he was just pants. Naive when it came to positional sense and made Del Horno look a quality left back... The fact we sold Filipe Luis prior to signing him just makes it all the more infuriating.

Boudewijn Zenden, signed for big money from Barca and took worse corners than Willian. Made Jesper Gronkjaer look competent at crossing.

Yossi Benayoun, didn't cost a lot of money but was just such a pointless signing. No one wanted him here and he went on loan to local rivals showing how little playing at Chelsea meant to him. Rubbish.

I'm gonna go with Chris Sutton as well.

He must of had one of the worst debuts I can remember from a professional footballer, he even tripped over the ball when through one on one.

Special props to Bakayoko as well, that 30 minutes against Watford was extraordinarily bad.

If your boss came and told you to go move jobs and half your wages, would you? Or would you sit there taking the money until they sacked you?

If i was a millionaire, had enough money to live comfortably, and my boss told me he couldnt afford to pay my wages, i would 100% move companies. Rather than rock up to work everyday smiling at the cleaners and canteen staff that are about to lose thier jobs.

The original poster said he respected Bogarde, i just dont think it is a very respectable position to take. I reserve my respect for people that actually earn it.

Probably where we differ, i personally would sit and take the money until the very end.

Same. Not his fault it was sh*t business from the company who gave him that contract.

the guilt and responsibility RE: the people losing jobs because of it should 100% sit with Chelsea football club there.

Mostly anyone from the Conte era aside from Luiz, Kante, Rudiger, Giroud, Emerson. So much wasted money in the last 2 years.

Does AVB count? We paid a good amount to release him from his contract. Absolutely woeful! Saying that, he might’ve suited our current squad and situation more

Mourinho went mental in his last seasons for us both tenures, Tal bein Haim and that Djibouti? ?

I don't really see the issue, aslong as they keep up their end of the bargain and keep themselves fit and available for selection.

Too many!!!!! For me Bogarde , didn’t even live here for the last part of his contract. He was on 50,000£ for five years. I was in the canteen at harlington after training and he sat on his own eating not mixing with anyone.

That was Ramires, Torres goal actually meant nothing in the grand scheme of things.

His goal was the icing on the cake. After that Barca just gave up. Tbf to Torres, it was his run that gave us the corner that led to Didier's equalizer

Technically true, but that Torres goal is still probably my favourite Chelsea goal of all time...

Is it because you got to hear Gary Neville’s vinegar strokes?

Spot on. And to cap it all we could have had Aguero instead!

Torres is the worst signing in EPL history. Personally I don't think anyone else even comes close.

Andy Carroll and Stuart Downing for the Torres money must come close?

Or Ali Dia, now there's a classic.
