February 19, 20206 yr Decent game but not getting too carried away - no Harry Kane. Would he have played as well against an established centre forward?

February 20, 20206 yr IMO I rather see Ampadu play CM - I thought he played better in that roleI just remember him playing a dcm role prior to his injury and some of the tackles he was making. The kid plays with a tenacity this squad could use in the future. Hopefully he can play more and more as the season goes on for Leipzig
February 20, 20206 yr I hope he grows an inch or two more .. not the tallest at 6.0 for a EPL centre half.

February 20, 20206 yr Did a great job tonight. Lets hope it leads to more starts for him in the second half of the year.
February 20, 20206 yr Author I think he was solid but what I have seen many times with the us and now yesterday he is sort of controllling position but he is not willing to take any risks with the ball or doesn't boss with physique. I don't know what to call that... JT for example went into everything he didn't shy away from anything. Ethan looks and positions himself but wants all in control and don't take risks the way a controlling defenders do. Even Christensen does that more. However he is a bright talent. I just want him to take more risks so he can evolve. Really throw yourself into situations.
February 20, 20206 yr 19 years old on loan and playing at the heart of the defence at the knockout stage of the Champions League. OK it's against Spuds but still. Did the job well, didn't make himself look stupid, didn't make any mistake, 90+ min game with 94-94% passing from the back.

It was his first real chance in a long time to show what he is worth and he took it brilliantly. He did exactly what he was asked to do would be no good if he tried every minute a risky ball or running out of defence with the ball.

Yes, he was excellent (apart from that one moment when he ducked out of a header - presumably because he got a call from the other CB?). He is a quality player with all the attributes to make it at Chelsea. Having seen every minute of all his Wales appearances, I can assure evissy that he uses his physique to great effect when playing as holding midfielder. And as he showed last night, his passing is a real strength.
February 20, 20206 yr Only watched the 1st half, but he looked good bar one error judging a long ball. Im not sure where his best position is, im not convinced he is physically a top centre back although there are exceptions. In midfield i think he has to develop his awareness, which will help him become press resistant. He has a fantastic mentality though, so i hope he gets a chance next season.
February 20, 20206 yr Great to see Ethan get game time last night he looked composed on the big stage,I'm not too worried about his physicality reminds me a bit of a young Carlos puyal and he never turned out to be bad
February 21, 20206 yr Whenever I've seen him play he has impressed. Somehow I see him as a JT type of player. A leader with ability. He is very decisive in his passing and movement and this must transmit to the players around him. Somebody above said he wasn't big enough but I have seen him get stuck into the tackle and he can give it out when required. He isn't small and at 19 he will fill out in the coming years. I was disappointed to see him go out on loan and his time at Leipzig has been awful. They haven't been playing him enough but this last game he put on a good performance against a "quality" team away from home. It can't be easy to just turn it on like that but he did and we'll see if they play him a bit more now. I'd bring him back right now if it was at all possible. Leipzig haven't done him any favours and he deserves to be playing. He's a quality player with leadership skills and to see that in someone so young is unusual. Not sure if any of the other young Chelsea players have the leadership ability he has. He needs to nail down a position and for me it's centre half. I know he likes to come out from the back a bit but if he could forge a relationship with say Rudiger at the back it would give our back line a bit more resilience.
February 21, 20206 yr I just fear he is not built to be a top defender. I would much rather see him as a CDM, a six or something in that direction.
February 21, 20206 yr His size not a problem if he is paired with the right player or in a 3 - similar to tomorrow? for Wales he holds and has done ok but maybe best at the deep lying player as not dynamic enough to push into the forward role IMV. He does show leadership qualities though as often vocal even with top players and not shy to give a view. keen to see his passing game as positionally he is bang on q. For me are is he quick enough or strong enough to be class CB - if he can get a run of games then we can see the potential i think he might be captain material in the future of our blueboys
February 21, 20206 yr Would definitely bring him into the dm fold next season. Might help us keep a lead. Who knows, it might be kantes last season with us.

I think he is too rash to play CB. Every time I seen him play for us, he would fly into tackles when I think it would have been wiser to stay on his feet.

February 22, 20206 yr Ricardo Carvalho was only 183cm and he wasn't too shabby ... and Fabio Cannavaro and Bobby Moore, world cup winning centre backs, were only 175cm and 178cm respectively .... Carlos Puyol another at 178cm ... didn't stop him making the UEFA team of the year on multiple occasions.

Cannavaro and Puyol both played in the Latin leagues with shorter strikers (that is changing now). Bobby Moore was back in the 60's and 70's - 5'10 was a good height then now I would say it is about 6'2 for a player. Terry was 6'2. Don't think we need both CBs to be 6'2 or above yet at least 1 and another in the team that can defend corners.
