We'll probably need a CB and a new LB, and that's about it I think, I'm very happy with the current squad so far.

CB and RB!

Picking up three points with a clean sheet, whilst still breaking in the youngest team we ever had, do me all day long. Cant wait to add a few top world class players into this team next season.

This team can be the best in Europe in 3 years time.

We aren't going to sell Azpi and Reece James looks very promising.

Azpi can't play at the high level next season though. We should sell him.

I disagree, I think he's picked up the last few games, but yeah he's certainly not at the highest level at right back anymore.

He will be 31 next season, probably his last with the club then...But even if we get a new CB, our defense will still have big holes unless Azp is a backup to James.

First half didn’t get going vs toons 9 gadges behind the ball or Brucey ball whatever one prefers

2nd half was a different kettle of fish haven’t seen Chelsea play that fluidly in a long while all without some pretty important players out injured. Toon put up a brave fight but if not for Dubrovka it would been at least 3-0. CHO stood out as motm to me which is very pleasing. Got another assist and put in an overall good performance coming back so soon from a major injury.

Cant find any negativity with a 5 run streak in all comps, back to back clean sheets, in top 4, big CL game midweek to look forward to.

COME ?N CHELSEA !!

It's a good sign when not be at our best but could easily have won by 3 or 4. Can't recall Kepa making a save.

CHO my man of the match and easily his best performance in the league.

Jorginho played well, as did Kova when he came on.

Tammy and Mount below par. Timori very sloppy and again our worst player. No question now his confidence has gone since the mistakes against Lille.

I agree with most of this although I didn’t think Tammy was below par just lacked service. Kovacic made a huge difference and pulisic was good on balance.

Newcastle parked the bus and offered nothing going forward.

Yes a 1-0 game makes it look like the defended well. They did first half, not really the second.

Mount has to score that chance in the first half. All that space, low and hard, bread and butter chance.

On another day Pulisic adds to that, Tammy's header hits the bar and in, and the defenders block sends Tammy's shot just under the bar rather than over it.

At 4 or 5 it would not look such a good defensive display. They got lucky to get away with just a 1-0 loss.

Not that it matters. 3 points needed 3 points got. Jorginho MOTM for me closely followed by Willian.

Agree about Willy. Seems with Eddy leaving Willy has taken his number & stepped outside of his shadow maybe. He is defo stepping it up, especially driving runs  at the opposition with more often than not meaningful outcomes. Confidence shown in him by the manager goes a long way too.

Pretty good performance, apart from the poor finishing. With the way Newcastle showed up, it's likely to be a tight game unless we score early. They contained us well in the first half, and we looked lethargic and looked like a team came out of the International break. Second half we lifted and should have wrapped up the game comfortably, the subs did a good job, and that's the team strength Lampard wanted. Defensively, we were only in trouble when the closed us down and forced errors in our final third, Zouma with the ball at feet poses more danger to the team than the opposition. Other than that, I don't think Kepa had a real save to make. I thought we managed their long ball game pretty well in the end, Caroll didn't get a kick or head in. Offensively, it's impossible to have the likes of Abarham or Mount scoring every game, they weren't great, but others managed to create some good chances and scored the goal. Pullisic is not a goal scorer, but his decision making and final pass are actually among the best in the team.

Dont know if it's been said but I think the game changed on the Barkley injury rather than HT. Kovacic just moves the ball better and looks more in control.

Mount for Pulisic was also a good change at the right time. Pulisic did well when he came on.

Stopped in to post that myself.  He's really been fantastic since he's been starting regularly.

If I'm honest I don't think he's (Willian) too different from what we usually see especially in an attacking sense, only at the minute he compliments the younger guys so well it's causing us to appreciate what he brings more as opposed to bemoaning what he doesn't.

He brings something the youngsters (at this moment) lack in terms of managing in game situations while they're providing the end product Willy lacks, meaning we don't have to scrutinize that side of his game as hard as when we only had Hazard as a semi reliable scorer.

The balance between them is very good.

I can count on 1 hand how many times I've seen him throw his hands in the air, or look skyward after a mistake on the field the last two games.

Once... When he hit the wall with a free kick. He threw his hands up at himself.

To me, that's a massive change in what we've seen before. His body language on the field has been so much more positive. And that helps with how the fans react and perceive him.

From a contribution standpoint, he's just playing smarter. He isn't running for the sake of running. He's when he tracks back, he's making tackles. When he presses, he's putting pressure on the back line, rather than just employing a one man press, then throwing his hands up when he gets passed around.

Positionally, I think he's dropping a bit deeper too. He's best suited in the midfield.

Effort and attitude are what I'm most critical of, and he's been really good the last two games.

I agree. We expects so much of Willian when he's never going to be a Robben type of player.

I agree about Pulisic, his awareness in the box is good, he didn't finish well though the chance fell slightly behind him. He did well to quickly control it just a shame it was not a goal. He was important to the build up in Alonso's goal too.

Definitely headed in the right direction! Super Frankkkkkkkkkkk!

Now to just part with some more deadwood and hit the transfer market when we can again

This is quite amusing.  A poster named "playdayouf" (Scores 22 in Scrabble if you don't hit a double or triple word score)  says " hit the transfer market when we can again"

I assume that "da youf" is some sort of dialect relating to our academy players, but I don't really speak street-arse so can't be sure.  Whatever the language is, is obviously has no word for irony, nor any concept of  self-awareness.

You thick c**t, we can't entirely rely on just our youth to pull us through when they have 0 experience can we? Its like how Tomori has been the past few games making many mistakes, whereas if we sign a world class CB like Koulibaly for example, he can learn much more.

Signing Sancho as a winger would prove fruitful as well, and I guess he counts as a youth player anyway as hes still very young.

Not saying we need too many signings, but a couple here and there while getting rid of some deadwood and we're a contender for top honours. But obviously a moron such as yourself doesn't like to use his brain power (as limited as it may be) but instead just wants to try make an unfunny joke

You'll get yourself into trouble adopting a snooty tooty attitude like that. Do you think the club should stay clear of the transfer market when the ban finishes? You knew what Playdayouf was saying and you obviously don't want Chelsea to not enter the transfer market when the ban finishes.

The best way forward is for the club to make use of both youth and the transfer market. This is a luxury position that Frank and Jody appear to be making the most of. There is no way this situation would have happened without a ban but it is working for us. We get the chance to give young players a run in the team without them having to worry about the club buying expensive replacements. Lets see the positive in this and not adopt stupid attitudes against one another.

Very well said, Yorkey has always been a troll on this forum that nobody likes but the staff have their tongue so far up his ass so he will always get away with it and its others who gets punished.

Back on top ic though, I definitely agree! Not saying the team needs an overhaul, but maybe 1 or 2 world class signings in some of our weaker positions and that would drastically change this team for the better.

Perhaps there is no word for irony in your first language either.   That poster's chosen a witty street username implying a desire to see our own come through and succeed and then wanders off down the road of we gotta be going buying people, I know, let's think of some big names we've seen mentioned on Sky and buy them.

Just strikes me as funny, really.
