November 30, 20196 yr It's fair to say that Kepa, James, Emerson, Kovacic, Jorginho and Hudson-Odoi had a good game overall. Now there simply can't be any more confusion about Giroud, there was a good reason why he didn't play prior to this game and for 70 minutes it felt like we had a player less.
November 30, 20196 yr Awful performance. Awful result. I seriously underestimated Abraham's absence and the negative impact it would have on our team. Pedro and Giroud are finished with us. Frank has done a great job so far, but today was one of his worst coaching displays for the season. Hopefully we can we regroup and get a win against Aston Villa. Starting to feel like our top 4 position is under threat especially with Spurs beginning to breath down our neck with Mourinho in charge.

Hope to see a January exit. I’m hardly Giroud‘s biggest fan but I think if he offers anything at all then it’s late in the game when we’re camping around their penalty area. At least then he doesn’t have to move that much. It’s strange that we didn‘t start playing to his strengths until he went off.
November 30, 20196 yr Team is toothless without Tammy. And again we concede an easy goal from poor defending. I hope Tammy comes back soon because our goalscoring this season is really what has been keeping us above the water, without it we could become a sinking ship pretty fast.
November 30, 20196 yr Worst game we've played so far I think, didn't even trouble their keeper once. We lost 4-0 to United and played much better than this. Can we just all be grateful that Tammy is not out for longer than we first anticipated, could you just imagine if he actually broke a bone that night in Valencia? Just imagine how much trouble we would have been in, I think you could have kissed top 4 goodbye.
November 30, 20196 yr Attack was too rushed and predictable, no creativity. Pulisic isn't suited for games like this imho, he's better suited for the counter attack. Willian did his best against a parked bus. Pedro and Giroud are gone. Emerson wasn't bad but didn't really do much about anything, bemused why Alonso didn't start over him. James poor but get's a free pass, he's young and still learning his trade. We're still at least 6 players away from being a top team again. Edited November 30, 20196 yr by the special one
November 30, 20196 yr Players looked a little gassed and the ones coming in just aren't good enough.West ham defended well, rode their luck but we didn't do ourselves any favours with our choice of final ball. Big chances missed by Zouma, Giroud and Pulisic in the final minutes.
November 30, 20196 yr Author Time to retire Giroud, Willian and Pedro, they were just getting in the way today.
November 30, 20196 yr Unacceptable. Dreadful result against dross. When we're playing players like Giroud and Pedro who are barely good enough for their team we'll never achieve anything Edited November 30, 20196 yr by WhiteWall

Tbf James whipped in several great crosses in the first half and Giroud was nowhere near them, he was too slow to actually get on the end of anything. I kept seeing Mason Mount being the highest player up the field, and I didn't even see Giroud tracking back when he wasn't the furthest man upfield, so what was he doing? You can't have games like that and be Chelsea material I'm afraid, sadly I think he has lost his use now, I was a bit sceptical but he's too slow.
November 30, 20196 yr Think we play 4-2-3-1 to find a way to make Mount useful. We look better in a 4-3-3, I don't think Mount's worth the adjustment.

James was at fault for the goal, he did what Emerson did against City, he let the attacker cut inside and get a shot away. I thought he was really poor in the 2nd half. He put a few decent balls into the box in the first half, but didn't produce any bit of quality in the second half. Jorginho was very poor by his standards. He was too slow with his reactions and played a few loose passes, he never got into the game. Emerson was the same as ever, ineffective. Hudson-Odoi didn't do much when he came on, our attacking didn't improve a single bit.

That for me was his worst game of the season. And James was really poor defensively, as good as he is going forward. The other players though I agree.

To be fair he had zero supply, our crosses in to the box were atrocious, The pikeys done there home work, a minor blip on a good season so far.

November 30, 20196 yr You get an idea of how good a team are after going on a good run and then losing, so far, our reaction to a defeat has been poor. We lost to City, even though we played decent enough against them, then we followed up with two poor performances in a row. We need to go on a run of wins again now to gain back some momentum. If we don't, then I can see us dropping out of the top 4 very quickly. Edited November 30, 20196 yr by Scott Harris

November 30, 20196 yr A lot of people didn't agree with me when I said the City game was poor, but I still stand behind those words. As I said in that match thread, that was a weakened City team that hasn't been on good form and we could have done more. The fact that they dropped points today proves that. IMO the City and Valencia game are really a prelude to this game and we need to pick up form fast or we could find ourselves in a bit of a slump.

He's a senior player who we need to rely on and he brought mistakes and crosses that couldn't beat the first man. Yeah he made mince meat out of the West Ham left back a few times, but what good is it if you can't put in a decent ball? I thought Willian was poor.
