Kai Havertz

I actually thought Havertz had his best game yesterday since Lukaku got injured, mainly because he wasn't really playing like a traditional striker. He was coming deep to receive the ball, picking it up in midfield and driving forward. If Havertz has to fill in for Lukaku, then I would rather he played like that than just play as Lukaku's direct replacement. Havertz is not a striker and I think it would be a waste of his talent to try and turn him into one. The problem is getting him into the side regularly once Lukaku does return, I don't really see how we do that with the formation we play.

We basically played

Havertz - CHO

Barkley

And you can play

Havertz - Lukaku

Mount

I think that's a great shirt to have, long sleeve number 7 with black stripes, Adidas is doing a great job. Sad that Nike stopped producing long sleeve shirts, they look so good.

We seem to win when he plays - no coincidence.  Big fan of his movement and general presence/contribution.  Wish he'd take more chances and increase his goal tally.

I wonder if TT will try again what he had at the start of the season. A front 3 of Mount, Havertz and Lukaku, former playing behind the other 2.

How do you think that would go with James increased form @Gol15 and @Argo ?

Sounds like a Jimmy Floyd + Gudjohnsen or something like that!

With Lukaku I think on the ball his weaknesses can be worked around especially by a manager as clued up as Tuchel. I may not rate him that highly but he does have his plus points that can be a real asset is utilised correctly.

It's off the ball where I'm struggling to see where he fits, with our so so creativity (against breaking down set defenses) pressing is our biggest asset and we're one of the best pressing sides in Europe without him while before he was injured our pressing success rate was like 16th in the league.

That said I'll probably play him more in the winter as with our injuries our play will likely be a lot more disjointed and we will need to rely on taking our chances more, so for these type of circumstances he will come in handy.

I've been too nice, he should stay on the bench and play in the cups or late sub only.

Stand by my comment.  When he plays we win, or are in winning positions more often than not.  This is not a coincidence - he has world class movement and positional play.  Needs to improve his finishing and tighten up some sloppy touches, but would always start for me.  Hope the injury is not serious.

I think Havertz's strength is giving others assists which is why he does not score so many.

I like him too and think for our team he is a better option than Lukaku.

To be fair to Lukaku, he has not played with the others so much yet he must be prepared to do lay offs if we are to build on our early momentum. If he just waits for the ball to come to him we will struggle.

Exactly this, he facilitates this team creating and scoring so much when he's up front, even if he's not doing the latter himself as often as we would like yet.

Zouma won them the game as much as Mendy did. Taking out Havertz and TT picking Lukaku to replace him destroyed out game plan.

If it wasn't for him squaring off with a Leeds bar steward at the end there I'd have been way more pissed off at the w**k performance.

Yes he showed a bit of steel and mind games at the end to ensure we got the three points.

Yeah it certainly helped to mask his poor one on one miss and overall awful display. Only Werner was worse.

Then maybe he shouldn't be leading the line? I'd prefer someone who actually scores and takes their chances to lead the line rather than someone who scores 2 goals every couple of months. Personally, I think Havertz will play better as an attacking midfielder or second striker.

When Liverpool won the league with 99 points (second most in the PL ever) their main striker didn't score a goal at Anfield till the very last home game.

We're at a more fluid era now, the days of the centre forward absolutely needing to be the team stat padder is long gone. It's no coincidence the last two PL champions played false 9 aswell as two of the last three UCL winners.

That is a fair point but there is a big difference with Liverpool though; Salah might rack up 20+ goals but Firmino will still chip in with 9. Lukaku has 3 league goals, Havertz has 2. The latter is on course to match his 4 league goals from last season if he continues this trend. We don’t have any one in that forward band capable of scoring 15 league goals, and won’t be surprised if Jorginho ends up being our highest goal scorer again.

Personally don’t have a problem with him persisting with Havertz but he has a £92m problem on the bench that doesn’t fit in.
