Kai Havertz

That is a fair point but there is a big difference with Liverpool though; Salah might rack up 20+ goals but Firmino will still chip in with 9. Lukaku has 3 league goals, Havertz has 2. The latter is on course to match his 4 league goals from last season if he continues this trend. We don’t have any one in that forward band capable of scoring 15 league goals, and won’t be surprised if Jorginho ends up being our highest goal scorer again.

Personally don’t have a problem with him persisting with Havertz but he has a £92m problem on the bench that doesn’t fit in.

If Lukaku hadn't been injured he would be our top goal scorer.

When Liverpool won the league with 99 points (second most in the PL ever) their main striker didn't score a goal at Anfield till the very last home game.

We're at a more fluid era now, the days of the centre forward absolutely needing to be the team stat padder is long gone. It's no coincidence the last two PL champions played false 9 aswell as two of the last three UCL winners.

Bayern won the champions league with Lewandowski upfront. Havertz isn't playing as a false nine either, he is playing upfront.

Yes hence the two of the last three. And the fact the only exception is an absolute freak of a footballer if anything proves my point further. Infact if we go back further to Real's three times you could argue Benzema was something of a false 9 given the sacrifices he made to accommodate CR7.

Regarding Kai, he's constantly drifting into pockets in the midfield/ten position during play the way Firmino does for Liverpool, whether he classes himself as a false 9 or not, he plays like one.

The hope/expectation is one of our attackers naturally evolve into a reliable scorer, hopefully Mount's recent burst is not an outlier but a sign he's breaking through in that regard.

If Tuchel can somehow find a way to fit Rom into this system then ideal but I just can't see how he can, his non existent pressing is too big a problem.

This is exactly where we need to play Kai, and its where we will get the best out of him. Playing a back 3 has constantly made us stick to one style of play, but with four you can then have the extra player in midfield.

Kai has the ability to glide about, assist and score. Sticking him out wide doesn't really get the best out of him.

Havertz is not enough of a creative passer to be a 10. And Mount at left wing is a great way to waste his talent. And I don't think Hudson Odoi is good enough for us to depend on him as a winger yet either.

Havertz has been primarily the number 10, he reads the game well and moves without the ball with high iQ. This is his best position.

But I agree that Mount is the best on the left side, still he runs so much that it maybe wouldn't matter. CHO is young but this is how one becomes more dependable, the other options is to put Mount there and play Pulisic on the right side.

Gol mate TT has said Silva does not have the legs anymore to play in a back 4.

I think we switch to a back 4 when either Silva leaves or TT does. Hopefully Kounde signs and he and Trev become a top pairing.

It's not like he actually tried it? I think he has great positioning which is more important than pace but as we saw against Villa he got injured out of nothing really so it's his age not his ability if you ask me, he's still a top player that can protect his space and he reads the game well.

Top priority is to keep either Rudiger or Christensen and sign Kounde. If both of those leave we would need to sign 2 defenders, best to sign one already in January.

Agreed. We should get Kounde in soon, Toni's focus is getting less and less as his move to Real gets closer and closer.

That's his perfect position though, that way he can assist and get around the box enough to score.

Aye and have two number 6s to cover for his lack of defensive ability. If we do ever switch to a back 4 it would be really good for him.

Wasn't Brandt more of a 10 when they were at Leverkusen together?

Maybe someone who's watched a lot more of Leverkusen than I have can confirm.

You can find many videos how and where he played prior to coming here in the first half of this thread...

I quite like the idea of the "Triple H"  in the 3 ... Hudson-Odoi on the right flank, Havertz central and then bring back Hazard to play on left wing.

Lukaku would love that trio behind him LOL

Only problem is it doesn't leave a space for Mount, though he'd be wonderful cover for the inevitable Havertz and Hazard injuries, not to mention an energetic potential sub :-)

I'm not sure how Hazard's body would be in the PL after all those injuries he had in Madrid but who knows...

From now on there is no excuse, we must fully depend on Kai to lead the line. He has the intelligence and the talent to become a great false 9. So the hope is there.

Man injuries just piling up potential hamstring Azpil and broken finger Kai. Luckily the finger shouldn't really keep him our for flown if at all.

Great performance from Kai in the first half this is for me when he's at his best. False 9 with another striker, he can then get involved in the build up without having to always occupy the box.
