Liverpool and City lost like this couple years back. They bought better players and evolved as a team.

Pep and Klopp did a full overhaul of their respective defenses. There is nobody that can make an argument that we will go forward as a club if we keep Christensen.

Shocking all over the pitch - not one CFC players comes out with any credit.

Sheff Utd are a very average side on paper but boy, they play as a TEAM. Everyone playing for each other - no stars or prima-dona's and they and their coach gave us a lesson. They played to their strengths, exploited our weaknesses and were runaway winners and deservedly so.  We could do with some of their defenders and their attitude and mentality.

No point singling any Chelsea players out - all pretty much as bad as each other and they undid a lot of the good work done this season. Thoroughly depressing.

It was a sarcastic response ? Lol because everyone keeps blaming the players

Same defenders as last season largely. Without comedy capers Luiz. Frank has struggled massively with that side of the game. Very Uncle 'arry in his way of managing. Not really focussed on the details or systems of defence. It's a huge area of improvement for him. He'll get next season to prove he can fix it because we can't win a league with his current approach.

I know I always say something to this effect and it’s getting tedious but I’ll say it again -  it’s not the end of the world. Pretty much everyone on here would have been ok with a top 5 finish at the beginning of the season. It would be better than my expectation.

You make a fair point Dean. I was one who said we would do well to make EL and we are above expectations by a long way across the season. Not the end of the world by any stretch.

Today though was the reverse. A long way below what is expected. That is probably one of the worst displays of the Abramovich era.

The frustration is of course is that game we have watched 10 times this year. Want to beat Chelsea? Let them have the ball and pass around you. Defend in two banks of four across the edge of your 6 yard box, hit them on the counter and with crosses. Jose must be watching wondering if Frank was paying attention for the 4 years he managed him.

Nice moderate reactions in here. Is it always like this? We lost, it was awful but we know we have a poor defence. It's nothing new. Didnt create enough today to combat our frailties. Abraham is not playing well enough to be starting games. Giroud should have that spot locked down. That's the only bit I put on Frank. The rest of the team is what you would expect given our recent wins. There were a lot of poor decisions from individuals today, like Mount trying to run the ball out and losing it on the edge of our own area for the first goal. Awful result, bad performance but we have to bounce back like we did after West Ham, and pray CAS upholds Man City's Champions League ban!

i agree on this...we as fans are spoilt.. the reality is we it takes time to build.. untill then its like this .. i can remember the 4-0 at bournmouth, watford, City 6-0 under Sarri this is pale in comparison to that ... GIroud should have started but apart from that..we have a collection of individuals recruited for specific styles.. Alonso and Emerson as wing backs.. Jorginho for Sarri.. and then a bunch of our players are aged.. we are LUCKY we are not 10th.. with a team which has two CB defenders in Tomori, RJ, Zouma (got relegated with stoke and didnt always start at everton), Christensen who is made for a back 3 ..

We have also been unlucky with injuries, RLC, Kante, Kova.. some player like Jorginho showed why they are 3rd or 4th choice in this system.. Rome wasnt built in a day.. it will be great if we male top 4 otherwise lets c.. patience is required.. like i posted earlier.. Fergie never took training sessions but he had great coaches.. Frank too will need help here... but boys lets KTBFFH

I hope players dont get abused on social media.. i know its a bad result but sports is like that.. lets support the bunch most are living in isolation and this would be the worst thing to happen..

Why can't we?

We have no choice. We can't move forward with the current players in our defense. I give James a pass he's still young but the rest are not good enough and haven't been good enough for quite some time.

Frank needs to anticipate how the game will pan out with his initial team selection. This match was lost at the start.

Our defence isn't good enough and needs  some serious coaching.

Easy to see why Jorginho hasn't being making the starting eleven. Supposedly he sets the tempo, he didn't and is a very poor shield for a poor defence

Our midfield needed more runners with the ball to break their organised lines

Tammy is a No 3 striker occupying a No1 starting position. He should never have started against three centre backs

Time to open a bottle of Rioja and forget this Saturday existed

SuperFrankie is too soft in all departments : Lack killer instinct tactics.

With this comical  defence Liverpool forwards will have a scoring orgy.

If we win our next 3 games we still are guaranteed top4. Regardless of the other teams.

need to beat Liverpool away though

This clearly shows that it's not up to our midfield at all. You can't coach a bad player like Christensen, you just can't.

Yes you can. Granted you can't change his technical ability now but he should be good enough to have got to this stage. What you can coach is discipline, tactical awareness and a system to adhere including role responsibilities.

that takes time.. SU have been running this system for 3 years..

Good post. Rioja sounds like a good plan. Enjoy!

Why in the world is Christensen still treated as if he's some 19 year old boy? He should be dominating by now, how many season has he been labeled as this young talent full of potential but just shy to show it? You can't coach him, ANY normal cross and he's lost in space he NEVER marks anybody.

Absolute f**king shambles from back to front - infuriating. Completely and utterly outplayed, we are a team with many inherent structural flaws that we have been lucky enough to get away with against other average (on paper) opposition. Let us make no mistake - we had this coming.

Up until now we have been lucky enough to have scraped into the CL places in what is possibly the worst top four battle in two decades. Lampard was completely shown up today, and it was so f**king predictable. You can sign as many £90m flavour-of-the-month Bundesliga forwards as you want - if we continue to be a team who are so poor at the defensive fundamentals then any pretensions we have of taking our seat back at the top table of European football will remain pretensions.

Complete and total sh*t. Appalling performance. We've had enough chances and now it is out of our hands. All that is left is to keep our fingers crossed that we get lucky again.

It’s literally impossible as they play each other.

They just need to win the other 3 games they have aside from playing each other. As we most likely will get, at most, 6 points form our last 9 as one of our game is Liverpool at Anfield.

People need to chill with the Lampard criticism, it's his 2nd season as a professional manager & his first in the PL and he has exceeded expectations.

He is a young smart manager and I am sure he will learn from this.

Antonio should have been given the players he wanted...we would be in a far better place than this....and we would have had a fun manager with some ideas.

Same at derby it’s a defensive coaching issue as much as the players, if you give JM the defenders we have we would be solid, wouldn’t do anything with the ball in the final third but we would be solid.

The bottom line is you can’t play expansive football if you don’t have special individual who can get you out of trouble hence VVD changes things at Liverpool, Frank needs to see if we wants to play this type of football he doesn’t have the personnel defensively so he needs to set up and approach games different.

You know Sarri with the same bunch of defenders minus Luiz had the 3rd best defence in the league right? You could also argue that these defenders should be better in their 2nd year of playing expansive football.

God No! He is already threatening to resign at Inter again. He is a nightmare

Please everything I want to say right now is based on what I watched in our team.

We can see that Mount is not yet a Chelsea level player.

I think we should not sell Willian yet, he can be playing at times while Pulisic will be on the bench, then Pulisic will be playing at times, while he will be on the bench. Maybe in two years time, Pulisic will be completely ready for us.

Abraham cannot lead the line for Chelsea, thank God, Werner has come.

Then, for me, selling Nemanja Matic was a mistake, because I feel our midfield would have been very good with Matic and Kante behind a very good attacking midfielder. For now, I don't know how we want to solve the problem of our midfield. Playing with only Kante as the defensive midfielder, I don't think it is protective enough for the defense. So, maybe we need to buy a new defensive midfielder to play with Kante, then buy Kai Havertz. I feel that will solve the midfield.

Then for the defense, James at right back will be okay. We need a new centre back,  I don't know who will pair with that new CB, maybe it is Rudiger, or Christensen, or Zouma, or Tomori. Then we need to buy a new left back.

For goalkeeper, we need a new  goalkeeper.

Frank seriously needs to get JT in to show him the art of defending, Bin Barclay, Willian, Jorginho off, to slow for what franks wants, Tammy looks like he's forgotten what to do, taking our most Attacking player off, Hmmmmmm Frank
