Tuchel sets up differently depending on opposition, some games we will set up to counter, like we saw him do in the champions league final. He will use long balls into the channels, he wil play a variety of formations, and he will rotare alot aswell. Last night was a combination of wolves sitting very deep, and showing no real intent to push forward and press high, and the fact we had Kovacic ad Jorginho controlling things in midfield who play very safe passes. Another factor that contributed to the amount of possession, was actually how well we counter pressed, and won the ball back very quickly. It was not a particularly entertaining game by any standard, but we still got in behind enough times to have created big chances to score, it was just the choice of pass and movement in the middle was not cohesive, which has been an issue all season. Hopefully Tuchel will be able to improve this, because his Dortmund side were excellent in this regard, and when they got behind the defence, it usually ended with a god chance. Early days but promising signs. He looks like a smart coach, he just didn't know the players yet. I have no doubt that he will play Mount next game from the start for example.

Dropping Mount, only one academy player in the starting line up and then we had to watch dross. I’ll be fully behind Tuchel when I’ve moved on from Frank and he also starts backing the academy players. James and Mount are too good to rot on the bench. I feel the same about Gilmour and I’m unsure what Tuchel thinks of him. We’ll know more after a few more games. Lampard only started one academy player against fulham 2 weeks ago. Mount has been in good form and it was disappointing he didnt play, but James hasnt been too good recently and might not have played if Lampard was still here. Gilmour has started a league game this season. I really wouldnt worry about the youngsters, if you like them and you rate them, then surely you believe they will win a spot in the team with their performances, Mount showed in 10 mins that he should be playing, CHO was fantastic. The others will get their chances, and they have to take them, or they won't play.

This is nothing to do with how you or anyone else feels, this is how I felt and why I was pissed of with the whole thing. There is no context, its my feelings on it. None of the stuff you say matters to me. That is fair. Hope you get over it soon.

If you lot demanded more time and patience for Frank after season and a half, surely Tuchel deserves more than a day to be properly judged. I wonder where we get this brutal, demanding, short fuse from ?
January 28, 20215 yr 14 minutes ago, dkw said: Well put, this is exactly how I feel. I have absolutely nothing against Tuchel, hes a manager been given a job and I hope he does well. My biggest problem is with the hiring of Frank Lampard and the academy lads coming through I felt a connection to the club again after several of losing interest as we slogged from one new shiny manager to the next, new shiny overpaid mercenary player to the next with no plan and no real affinity with the fanbase. This coupled with the way football is now going, diving, VAR, corruption, disparity in financial clout between the big clubs and the rest etc and I just was losing interest in the game, and Chelsea. Then along came a legend as manager, who was bringing our exciting young players not only onto the bench but front and centre in the team, they were given responsibility and were running with it. It was fantastic, I felt a connection again, a reason to watch the matches that didnt entirely hinge on the result. I could see where we were heading, a club built around the fabled academy with a manager who got the club (and I hate using this f**king term as its so scouse) and hopefully had the long term backing that enabled us to build progressively without fear of being booted out after 5 or 6 bad results......oh how naive I was. Now hes gone, the new manager dropped the young players for the experienced plodding sh*te we have had to put up with and we end up with a match of such unimaginable dross. I would understand had he dropped the young players because they were out of form and struggling, but he dropped a striker that had just got a hat trick, a midfielder who has easily been our best and most progressive one and a right wing back for a left winger. So forgive me if I wasnt celebrating the next new shiny manager like some are. I had the same optimism as you, but I came to the realisation Lampard wasn't going to be here long term a few weeks ago so have gone through that pain. I don't think Tuchel will ignore the academy players. I think they are too good to ignore. I am optimistic because I have to be. If I didn't think Tuchel was going to get us playing better football, blending youth and experience, creating a new set of legends, well then it would be quite difficult to keep watching.

Can't remember many people being this impatient with Frank after his first game, even after we got thumped 4-0. Sure there were many doubters but it's not the same thing. Like it or not, Frank got 1 and 1/2 here. That's more than what most managers get here, I think people need to calm down a bit if they want to get on Tuchels back out of spite of the Lampard sacking.
January 28, 20215 yr It’s unfair to judge him after last night, he’d only spent about 4 seconds with the squad. Hopefully those 90 minutes taught him a lot about his players and we see the signs of improvement on Sunday. Even if it’s just something simple like not leaving Mason on the bench for the Jorgi the Crab or Sir John Can’t Shoot Won’t Shoot.

Actually I thought we played great in that game, the scoreline was terribly misleading. As bad as it was, I saw lots of positives in that game, we actually dominated them.
January 28, 20215 yr Just want to raise one more point before I start work. Every time we play it's always an argument about "Who's going to protect the backline", I think we have to just accept it here and now. We don't have any players who are capable of it, we haven't actually replaced Matic since we got rid of him. Not even Kante can do that job, we soon learned that. It's no wonder we've been so far away from the title since we got rid of Matic (even though I think Matic was on a rapid decline himself). Best we can hope for in the midfield is distribution anyway, so I would save all the moaning an whinging about the lack of physiciality or defensive cover in the midfield every time you see the teamsheet. It isn't going to be rectified until we get the right player in.

But we're always prone to counter attacks, and in the big games we cut wide open in that midfield. It's probably why we're so afraid of taking risks, because as soon as we misplace one pass the other team can cut us wide open.

Though to be fair last nights match day thread was a right laugh, I thoroughly enjoyed it for the first time in ages as I used it as a cathartic exercise ha ha.
January 28, 20215 yr Tuchel is not going to play like this every game, he said that the theme for yesterday was "less is more". This doesn't mean that our players are not the correct ones, we did finish top 3, top 4 with Jorginho playing most of the time. Tuchel said that he wanted Kante and now he's here, he said he's friends with Giroud and knows Timo, Kai and so on. The team is in good hands, Tuchel is an established coach.
January 28, 20215 yr What doesn't sit well with me is I spent last night's game almost wanting Tuchel to fail because I was so angry at the way Lampard was let go. If the board had waited until the end of the season, it wouldn't have been so bad... It's just the timing of it all. Tuchel seems like a decent bloke and comes across well in the interviews I've seen. I want to get behind Chelsea and the new manager and will in time. Just don't like how this has come about. From this position Tuchel is just as unlikely to get top 4 as Lampard was, so may as well have cut our losses and waited the season out.

The only thing that you would hope for in that situation is that the board is at least consistent with their own standard, if Lampard was sacked then Tuchel should be sacked too if he doesn't turn the season around, that would only be fair if you ask me. For the best of the club I hope that Tuchel will reach top 4, I think that even with everything said and done, Lampard himself wouldn't want the club to fail. So we as fans should be hopeful and support the team.

I think it is better for the team and Tuchel to come now and not end of the season. He gets to know everyone and acclimatise his ideas of football in the Prem. He gets a head start. Fans feel bad for Frank but they shouldn't for long. Frank is the first person to accept his dismissal. He signed up to this when he took the contract. Frank is one of the brightest minds in football so his future is bright wheter he will manage or do something else in football and life. Now it is Tuchel-time and our circus rolls on.
January 28, 20215 yr I understand why he set up with 3 CB's especially considering it was his first game in charge and he wanted to solidify the defense but in my view he should've realized especially in the early parts of the 2nd half that he did not need 3 CB's against Wolves who are going to keep 10 men behind the ball. Alongside that subs could've been made earlier but I guess it being his first game in charge he gets a pass on being a little hesitant in his changes.
January 28, 20215 yr Thought it was funny that Tuchel said that he’s friends with Giroud. Never expected that. No wonder he started him. Loved Tuchel’s interviews - seems very charismatic. Like his positivity as well.

He said the team and assistants told him what kind of side Wolves is and that their biggest threat is counter attack. This is why Tuchel wanted to put 5 at back and keep the ball. He also said he wanted to field experience because it is safer. He played it safe if anything.
