January 27, 20215 yr Didn't lose his first game in the league. Looked like Sarri and took him too long to put Mount in but this game means nothing...

January 27, 20215 yr Not his fault for the team but he was fooled by the date of birth of the players. I hope he doesn't go for a possession-based 3-4-3. If we go back to that again, then what was the point Of hiring Lampard?
January 27, 20215 yr As this has (rather predictably) turned into a glorified politics thread I'm going to give my views on the match then call it a night. First 15-20 minutes I liked what I saw, pressing well, good combination play through the middle and should have been rewarded with an early goal if Oli read the cross, after that till about the hour mark it went a bit flat (understatement) and resembled the very worst of Sarri ball. The last half hour we started to up the tempo a bit and with the chances we had were unlucky one didn't go in. Hudson Odoi had a brilliant game, I hope the 3atb isn't an every game thing but he did a very disciplined job at wingback. Ziyech was very poor, Havertz ok not enough for a record signing but something to build on, Chilwell awful, Silva and Havertz good, Jorgi not good, Kova had a good game. Tuchel should have made the subs sooner, Pulisic and Mount upped the tempo of the game and if they came on after an hour we would have won in my opinion. By merit Pulisic, Mount and CHO absolutely have to be starting against Burnley. Speaking of which, Burnley will also park the jumbo jet on Sunday so we will need to work in training in the next few days, I think a 442/424 may be the best way to approach this one with Tammy and Werner up top flanked by Pulisic and CHO. Some decent bits but overall a frustrating night! Edited January 27, 20215 yr by Argo

January 27, 20215 yr Not the best of starts but he only had a brief training session with the players beforehand. I think he would have been better advised keeping Mount in the starting 11, especially at home. But we move on and hopefully we will see some improvement against Burnley. The Spurs game next week looks like a huge milestone for Tuchel already. If we win that game he will gain a lot of popularity very quickly from the fans. But a loss and he will already be behind the 8 ball.
January 27, 20215 yr One thing I do hope, and I think most of the forum will agree, is that he doesn't start Jorginho every game. Tonight I can't fault him for the lineup, put yourself in his shoes, you would go for experience. I hope he makes the right adjustments going forward...Whatever they are...

I think if he starts Jorginho again any time soon we will all be worried 😉

I agree with you, but dropping Mount was baffling. If he watched a game this season he’d know straight away that Mount is undroppable at the moment.

Can totally understand why he went for that line-up tonight and just maybe Mount needed a rest. Was disappointed he didn't make subs earlier. And as you say, we can only hope he leaned a lot tonight and no doubt watching countless match videos over coming days so he will soon come up with the best side. More points dropped tonight and I honestly do feel Lamps would have got all 3 tonight with a different line-up and a run of winnable fixtures but no point going over old ground.
January 27, 20215 yr Really not fussed on Pulisic being brought on to play on the right side also but tbf CHO was playing really well on that left.

Say what you want about Jorginho but he brings stability to this squad, we conceded 8 goals only and had 6 clean sheets with him in the starting lineup this season in the league. The only game that we lost when he started the game was at the start of the season against Liverpool after Christensen got a red card. Tuchel played the duo from last season that made us a top 4 team and suddenly Kovacic had a good game after not playing well at all for quite some time. I don't think I want to see Kante-Kovacic again, that is the most horrible thing that has happen to us this season, probably contributed a whole lot to Lampard losing his job as well...

He certainly showed the manager he's not going to be sidelined easily. Exactly the reaction I imagine Tuchel would have wanted. 1 hour ago, jack h said: Nonsense. You can't just stick your head in the sand and pretend some sort of fate like concept takes players where they would always have ended up, thats a total cop-out of responsibility. Well my view is that a world class player ends up at a world class club. If Tuchel bins them off because he doesn't think they are good enough, then either he's right and they end up at west Ham, or he's wrong and they end up at a big club. I think Mount and James are good enough to be first XI players for us. I think Abraham is either a good squad option or a first choice at a west Ham type club.
January 27, 20215 yr I’ll make a small bet that Tuchel gets an extension on his contract. I think he showed enough in this one game that he can manage Chelsea. He will have learned from his mistakes at Dortmund and psg, mistakes of politics, and will make the team click. It may or may not be too late this season for top 4 but we will play better.
January 27, 20215 yr Good performance for manager who only on about 8 hours with the team, didn't expect him to pull up trees and Wolves came just to not lose and nick a win. He has a few days now to get into the them and really drill them before Burnley. This was better than Arsenal, Leicester and Fulham for sure those were just horrific performances even though we beat Fulham. Edited January 27, 20215 yr by Brutos

January 27, 20215 yr " We will build a team no one wants to play against". Strong stuff from Tuchel. " Fight many years to get Kante in my team". Guess we know who will absolutely start in one of the midfield positions. Didn't get try sign Kante while at PSG? Edited January 27, 20215 yr by Brutos

He's happy with the "less is more" for this game, clearly he is okay with a point since he just came to the club. We controlled the game but Wolves had a chance to score from a counter attack in each half, still though it must be said that Wolves had 0 shots on target full time... I guess mr.T made sure that we simply don't lose regardless of what we do in attack - over 800 passes and 78.9% possession, both records for the first game in charge of any manager in PL history. After 1 training session...
