Trevoh Chalobah

If Chalobah goes straight towards the ball to help Tosin it gets cleared straight away and there's no danger because there's no other Sunderland player nearby, but instead because he has no awareness of his surroundings he puts himself in a position where he is of no help to anybody. Of course the other players going at a snails pace to get back doesn't help, but Trev had a chance to pour water on the situation right at the beginning and he didn't.

This might work at amateur leagues but this isn't how defending works at top level.

Nah.

Chalobah need to double from the top, if Bobby spin baseline and cross with 0 player in the middle, it is Chalobah fault.

If he stay there and and we saw what happen, it is Chalobah fault.

Basically, all Chalobah fault 😂😂

Absolutely. A big part of being good as a defender is the set up around you

All players depend on setup (except the very best). This is especially true defensively.

Regarding Tosin n Chalobah. By now it is quite obvious if you are going to defend transition, Tosin is not your guy. If you are going to defend against big st Chalobah n also Colwill is not your guy.

If people are saying why can't we target player who can handle both? 🤑🤑🤑

Love Chalobah. Tried to force him out, loaned him out and recalled, basically we treated him like sh*te.

Despite all of that, absolutely no drama from him, he knuckled down and got on with it. Now as things stand he’s our best centre back. Steel mentality.

The way Trev has conducted himself despite being told he wasn't in the managers plans, being banished to the bomb squad, loaned to Palace, then being recalled , has been dignified and exemplary .

Whatever you think of him as a football player, his behaviour is a credit to him, and an example to everyone else at our club whoever they are.

Agree 100%. He's been a proper role-model.

Having now got around to the seeing some extended highlights of the Newcastle game am not sure how VAR did not award a pen against trev for that charge tackle on Gordon.

leg went across him and made no contact with the ball. Clean and obvious error imo, stonewall pen and very poor from trev.

Oh give over.

Its shoulder to shoulder, you see Van Dijk or Gabriel do it every week to applause.

Did you think the Reece James one was a stone wall penalty too then?

Gordon is also weak as piss, so any contact with him is going to look so much worse and send him flying across the pitch.

Not seen one on Reece.

Is not the shoulder on shoulder part, is his right leg going in to Gordon trying to get the ball but not getting it and getting the man instead.

I'd want a pen for us had that happened to Garnacho at the other end.

Been our best defender all season. Funny how you've had to wait months to post in this thread again.

Because we spend our time slagging off every other CB we have and it goes under the radar that Chalobah isn't good enough either. He's a mainstay in the side and every game we seem to have a defensive f**k up, it isn't a coincidence.

He's missed one ball over the top in months that several other players had a chance to clear afterwards.

The last thing you tried to dig him out on was a shoulder barge that wasn't even deemed a foul 2 months ago.

Before that it was a Tosin mistake from October.

Gosh what a terrible player, stop reaching. Chalobah has been our best defender this season, boring agenda that grew legs from overseas fans on twitter.

This is the sort of thing I'm talking about, he has so many apologists for him it drives me insane. Not every bad defender has to have individual errors every game to be a bad defender. We are awful at the back almost every game and chalobah is usually a starter. It's fine to claim he's our best/most consistent defender, I won't argue with that, but the problem is that's a very very low bar. We're comparing him to Tosin, Badiashile and Fofana who's rarely fit.

We've seen Sanchez save our arses numerous times this season because of poor defending and you can see in most games how frustrated he gets.

We are always going to be shaky at the back regardless of who starts simply cause our options are not very good. Chalobah has been the best of the lot but he alone is not going to be enough to stop a shaky defence.
