February 12, 20242 yr We want numbers and he got them, we want to win games and he won that, credits needs to go to him. But overall he's not that good. He's a Chelsea boy, he's running all around the pitch but in terms of quality I don't see how far he can go and how far he can bring Chelsea.

He doesn't quite have the vision or speed of pass I'd want from someone occupying the role he does. Nicely finished goals.

I think it's fair to question if we can compete with Gallagher but it's hard to understand why so many untalented young players We've signed who are consistently worse than Connor get unlimited patience while Connor doesn't get the same support despite being a life long blue, working harder than them and performing better.
February 12, 20242 yr 3 quality finishes in a week, and not a single one a 30 yard thunderbolt, all controlled and placed well. Clearly has it in him, just needs to keep working at it as hard as Lamps did.
February 12, 20242 yr More appearances than any player this season More assists than anyone this season More tackles than anyone this season More interceptions than anyone this season Now starting to look capable of chipping in with goals. Can't stand these players who get praised for just running around a lot.

But does he have to be world class? He’s a solid player, a hard worker who loves the club and at the moment he plays on merit. We need those kind of players, the argument doesn’t have to be whether he is world class or not.

I personally don't think he has been playing better though. Running around more, sure, but that alone doesn't equal better. Passing, ball control, positional sense, football intelligence, all of this has been worse than most of our regular starters this season. I'm also not judging Gallagher on one season, even when he was at Palace I thought he was a mid table player. One thing he has over the rest is tempo, a requirement the rest must learn, and if they ever do, they will be way ahead of Gallagher because they are better footballers. February 12, 20242 yr Conor! What a player! We would have lost that game if he wasn't in the team. 3 top drawer finishes in less than a week. Tekkers.
February 13, 20242 yr Man of the match, wins things high up the pitch, always an outlet, Turns out he remembers how to score too... but he's crap. Cool... Some folk on here really need to go out for a walk, give your heads a wobble, take some deep breaths. 3 goals in a week, two of which win CFC 3 points and many are all out complaining that he isn't good enough and is just a willing runner. Really wonder why some bother to be fans at all.

Sterling is at 7:8, and Gallagher is at 3:6 tied with Gusto in assists who's at 0:6. Edited February 13, 20242 yr by Victor90

It will be interesting to see if he kicks on from this.
February 13, 20242 yr I feel “player X is not good enough” needs to be very explicitly qualified with “for what” and/or “relative to whom”. I suspect that some criticising Gallagher do so imagining KDB or Bellingham in his place, or some such… He is very much good enough for this team. If we rank this season’s regulars “by how much we’d benefit from an upgrade” he’s not even in top 5. Maybe not in top 8. 🙂 So what’s the point of having a go at a decent footballer, who loves the club and is giving everything? But sure, once we have a better striker, two defenders, left wide-forward and manager - and still not quite winning everything - we should totally look into Conor…

February 13, 20242 yr I think Conor is a better footballer than a lot on here give him credit for. Whether he would be a regular starter for us if we were a title challenger team, I’m not sure. Hope he signs a new contract, I think there was an offer on the table. We don’t know the ins and outs of the negotiations but obviously his team think he is worth more than what is on offer. If an agreement is not met I think he has to sold in the summer. Can’t afford for this to run down and can’t be held to ransom by any player.

Playing a distinct number 10-like creative type is a tactical change and whenever Pochettino toyed with this (by playing Palmer there) Gallagher still ended up on the pitch, just further back. So wanting a successfully integrated Maddison-like player is less a “replace Gallagher” thing and more a “tactical change, generally need to have a 10” thing. May totally be a reasonable desire, just not really anything to do with Gallagher. 🙂
February 13, 20242 yr Gallagher's hit a purple patch banging in them in like Lampard, I would park this until he has a couple of bad games.

Palmer is more of a wide forward and I am glad that CAM experiment is over.
February 13, 20242 yr Where does Nkunku fit in if Gallagher is going to be starting as our most advanced midfielder? He's our most talented player but Gallagher is filling his best position so we either put him up front which is a waste of his best attributes and next season when we do (hopefully) sign a new striker he wouldn't play there anyway. Left wing maybe?

He definitely could do with adding more goals to his game, we know he can bang them in. He scored a beauty from distance last season, which is something we don't often see in this team. Conor has had no penalties, but even Palmer has more goals without penalties.

Left wing maybe? Perhaps he could play as a striker/forward? I thought that was the position we signed him to play in? Lord knows Jackson could do with sharing the burden of fans expectations upfront.
