Dusan Vlahovic

Some reports Vlahovic has turned us down and wants to stay at Juve.

Whilst it kind of made sense to start with as a vehicle to move Lukaku out, if the wage figures were to still be in line with our exsiting structure it was obvious he would turn it down. If the stories are true about his injury record and that he is made of glass, this could actually be a bullet missed.

Best thing to do is stick with Jackson/Broja/Nkunku/Kudus? and reassess in January.

I don't think Kudus is coming if you take the Pochettino comments on Angelo Gabriel at face value, but I think we should be fine with Jackson, Nkunku and Broja in any case.

Pros

Adds a new tactic that Pochettino could use

Gives jackson a challenge

Broja can go on loan and get minutes in a PL side

Lukaka gone and off our wage bill (biggest positive imo)

We have a 23 year old we can probably get some money out of

Cons

Medical issues

Does he want to play for us?

Lukaku + 30-40M is a bad deal more like lukaku + 15M

Ideally if Pochettino wants him then get him if not wait until Jan and get ivan toney

We’d be getting rid of a burdensome player on a monstrous wage in exchange for a top quality striker aged 23 for around 40m euros. If the club aren’t all over this deal, then you’ve got to ask who think they’ll get that’s better. Last night, Nkunku went off injured and we struggled. Once Jackson went off we were playing with Burstow upfront. The alternative is Broja who is coming off a serious injury, and needs a loan. The idea that we can go into a season challenging for the title with only Jackson and Broja as our centre forwards, is frankly laughable.

The problem though is the player doesn’t want to be here. You sign him, and he becomes our de facto No 9. We could go back and forth on how he will “compete” with Jackson, but the reality is a player who will be one of your Top 3 earners isn’t coming here to compete. He will demand the No 9 role. With no European football Jackson will be feeding on scraps, I can see that affecting him adversely. We have looked the most fluid with him upfront in the longest time ever.

Hold on, we are not competing for the title. The goal should be Top 6 and to build from there. I also question why Juve are letting go of an exceptional younger forward with resale value on lower wages for an older player with no resale value who will potentially be there highest earner. Something about the proposed deal stinks.

As a fanbase we don't believe we are but the players, club and manager want to compete. If you go into the season thinking about top 4 only then our standards have dropped.

I think we need to have 2 strong players in each position and to be honest who else is out there? There could be alot of downsides to Vlahovic but there could be upsides also.

The injury is my only worry, if that's serious we should stay away. Juventus are also in financial trouble which could make sense for them to bring Lukaku in for no fee.

Pochettino said he’s looking for a different profile of forward to add to the squad. Vlahovic is a more traditional centre forward than Jackson. I can even see a scenario where Jackson plays alongside/behind Vlahovic. It’s about giving the manager options upfront. At the moment it’s Jackson or nothing really. Nkunku is more a no.10 and Broja is untried and coming off the back of a serious injury. I really don’t see why we can’t have Jackson and Vlahovic in the squad. I don’t know why Juventus want rid of him. We’d need to do our due diligence on his fitness as that’s the only reason I can think of.

Juve didn't make Europe last year, swapping lets both teams re-amortize players, and ensures Juve still have a proven goal scorer in Italy to make a title run.

Assuming if they sold him, they would still need to buy a striker.

Let's stay away from any striker from Serie A.

To be fair most of the biggest outgoings this year are from that league, Tonali, Onana, Holjund, Kim to name a few. Oshimen is still touted at over 100m and the league had teams in all european finals last year.

I don't think it's the league I think it's more the type of person we are signing that's the problem.

Won’t be surprised if none of those names bar Kim Jae don’t live up to expectations. Kim Jae will probably not get tested much in the Bundesliga since he plays for the strongest team in the league, but the jury is out on the other 3. Hojlund is not a £72m player and I would argue more than half of the fee is based on future potential.

The issue with Vlahovic is he is an old fashioned centre forward, and the PL demands a more dynamic No 9 especially for the big sides. He also isn’t coming here to sit on the bench on those wages which would have been ridiculous considering how fluid Jackson has looked in preseason.

I agree in a way but the best centre forward in the league last season is an old fashioned forward who barely touched the ball in alot of games. He is a freak but It does not really matter how they play, as long as the ball is in the back of the net.

This signing boils down to one thing for me.

If Pochettino wants him then I am all for it, if not then we have to find Lukaku another solution. Lots of mixed reports right now but seems Fabrizio says they are waiting on Pochettinos decision.

I hate these opportunistic transfers where we probably had no plans to sign the lad in the first place.  If we'd already sold Lukaku would we really be trying to sign Vlahovic?  It's the complete opposite to the Caicedo transfer where we have a player desperate to come and a club desperate to keep him.  It feels like this completely flies in the face of our supposed future planning and development.  We may all have it wrong however this seems like swapping one problem for another, the red flags are waving when Juve want rid.

You are just assuming this though?

How do we know he does not want to come here and Juve are in financial trouble, they spent a big fee on him and they probably want to save themselves from big future payments. They are thinking short term not long term to make ends meet. His injury is the only worry but if Pochettino wants him then he fits our transfer stratgey, he's only 23 years old....

The general feeling on this forum is that nobody rates him but if this forum was in charge of signings it would be based on youtube clips and twitter opinions.

Let's just wait and see what happens, if Pochettino wants him then it's a good signing.

I am  pleased the forum is not in charge of signings that’s for sure.
