I wouldn't feel confident with Broja long term if Jackson was to pick up an injury. Normally I would say he would be better as 3rd choice to play all the cup games but given his long time out and us not being in europe, he would be far better off in the long run playing regularly elsewhere.

I think as it stands, he's our third choice striker. Jackson and Nkunku being #1 and #2. Broja is probably best served by a loan to a PL side in bottom half, where he will play and be able to demonstrate his fitness and recovery from injury, plus get good experience and regular game time I think the best signing to replace him in the squad would be someone like Kudus, who can play CF or RW, essentially covering both positions at a decent level. He could share RW duties with Noni, plus be #3 for up top. If Pochettino wants Vlahovic, then OK, but certainly not with any cash going to Juventus. Straight swap only. At least he would give us a "big target man" playing option, as he is significantly taller than Jackson and Nkunku. If Vlahovic turns out to be a dud, then he is at least young enough and (hopefully) with a decent enough attitude to make it likely that we will find a club that will buy him off us down the line.

Jackson is better in hold up play and linking, Vlahovic is pretty much just a finisher so I think it would be good to have different options agaisnt different oppositions. I like Broja but he's just come off a serious long term injury. Unfortunately, he needs to go on loan to regain lost time and play consistently. It could be a problem since both want to be in the starting lineup, I don't see them playing together at the same time and Vlahovic won't be happy as the sub. Broja wouldn't lose much if he stays, he could also play in the cup matches and slowly grow with the squad, it feels like sending players on loan doesn't really work out for us, most seem to never come back.
August 1, 20233 yr Is Nkunku a striker? Always thought he was more of a 10. If Jackson is out injured we can't rely on Broja to score goals. We definitely need a more experienced and accomplished striker. Vlahovic would be ideal, but i don't like the idea of us giving Juve money plus Lukaku for him. As much as we need to get rid of lukaku, why would we give money + a player for him. Be a bit silly business by us, but i don't know who else is out there tbh.

August 1, 20233 yr There's probably some sense in this transfer from an FFP perspective. We could structure this so that Juve give us 60m to clear the Lukaku cost and then we give them 80/90m. That means Vlahovic is a 16/17m a year player + wages. Selling Lukaku for 40m flat means we add a full 20m onto our books in one go, that's more than most of our players cost and we get nothing for it. At least this way we have an asset that could be sold in 2/3 years. Edited August 1, 20233 yr by bisright1

Vlahovic isn't a target man. Certainly wasn't at Fiorentina and, courtesy of Allegri's neanderthal tactics, he has mainly looked lost at Juve.

I don't watch Serie A, so I'll bow down to your superior knowledge ! I was simply going off what is written in his Wikipedia entry, a lot of which sounded like "target man" to me !
August 1, 20233 yr He puts himself about. I did see him score for Juve late last season. Running the left channel, beat a couple, finished top corner. That's what he's capable of but, as we know, scoring in the PL is a different kettle of top corner fish.
August 1, 20233 yr 4 hours ago, ducavis said: Why are you saying there is no transfer fee involved? The idea of a “swap” is not allowed by UEFA, and both clubs recently got sanctioned by UEFA for the Pjanic-Arthur deal. Juve were also fined €20m & thrown out of Europe. Both deals would have to happen separately and it market/fair values. Juve want €65m for Vlahovic and we want €45m for Lukaku. £56m & £220k/w for a backup forward is a very bad deal. My fear last month with the slow pace we were moving and the focus on Caicedo was come August we will start undoing all our good work and making dumb deals to just bodies in. Roberto Sanchez, Disasi & Vlahovic fall in that category. Pochettino doesn’t rotate players; look at Spurs history under him with forward players, so he will have to find a spot a £220k/w forward. Vlahovic is also not leaving Juve where he is a guaranteed starter to come and sit on the bench. We also don’t have the luxury of European football, so Jackson might end up riding the bench for the bulk of the season. There is also the angle that if the signing doesn’t work out we are stuck with him on a 6yr contract on fat wages. What then happens to the proposed Elye Wahi who we intend to park at Strasbourg? If we were desperate for a forward player why not sign a Kudus who can fill multiple roles, or a short term option like Aspas, Fullkrug, Horta or even digging in the barrel Taremi. The market for quality No 9 is non existent and a smart well run club like Madrid signed a 33yr old Joselu on loan to replace Benzema in the short term while they continue assessing the market. A times it’s better to stand still and do nothing. Swaps are allowed provided they are fair market value for FFP purposes. The issue with Pjanic/Arthur is actually the opposite; Juve and Barca deliberately reported the exchange as separate transactions and vastly inflated the transfer fees above market value. This allowed Juve to disguise a €12m loss as an FFP profit, and Barca to claim the full €60m for Arthur as he was more or less a youth product. Given Lukaku's reputation, initial price tag and current wages, it would be impossible for UEFA to argue an exchange for Vlahovic, even at €65m, is not a fair market value.

August 1, 20233 yr Btw, Vlahovic is still only 23. He was tearing it up for Fiorentina at like 20 years of age which is impressive. The more I think about this signing, the more I'm very pro signing him. He's going to come with more experience than Jackson at the top level, but I trust Pochettino to utilise them both effectively during the season. We know how injuries f**ked us last season, for a large part of it anyway, so having quality in multiple positions is vital. Edited August 1, 20233 yr by enigma

August 1, 20233 yr What to like: We get rid of the biggest mistake of the clubs History in Lukaku We get a very sellable asset in Vlahovic. He is only 23. We did well selling Kai as well. We get another, different profile striker. Different to Jackson anyway who is our main man atm. What not to like: We are in this mess in the first place. I am concerned what this does to Broja. I would love us to build him up so he can really show what he can do. Vlahovic might well block his future at Chelsea. We are buying him because it is a way to get rid of a player. We are not targeting him because he is what the club has identified as a fitting piece to the puzzle.

He needs games to recover and being 3rd choice behind Jackson and Vlahovic in a none European football season won't give him much. If we sign Dusan sending Broja to play at Sheffield United alongside their starboy would be a good pairing.

August 1, 20233 yr My main issue apart from that I don’t rate him is the Juve valuation. Rid of Lukaku or not it’s still £70-80 million. It makes the Hojland deal look logical. Hopefully the PSG rumours are correct.
