Christopher Nkunku to Chelsea

I think the point was that Nkunku has not been not trying - he simply looks like it, because he has been so ineffective.

Not saying I agree - I would say that it has looked like he downed tools, but we don't know for sure. Maybe he is just that dire as a 9?

He looks like he wasnt trying because he wasnt, nothing to do with position or role, the last game had him literally wandering around as others tried to press, it was ridiculous.

No, but if the player was sold on a move to us by saying he was going to be the main man in the 10 role, gets injured and see's palmer literally struggling to have any kind of impact on a game. You're going to check out.

Why are you so desperate to give him excuses, none of that matters, sold on a move, wrong position, palmer struggling (no idea what that has to do with anything by the way). Checking out is just not acceptable when your on a pitch, there are no reasonable excuses allowed.

Fair play... his career has basically ended with us, he knows it. He should have gone in January. Was a transfer lined up and the club then said no? It's not just him though is it. The malaise is across the pitch.

Ultimately - given the situation, I'd rather defend the players over the board. I'd rather focus on that than whats happening at board level. The players and manager are the only ones who can really turn it around.

Honestly need to just play one of the teenagers up front, at least they'll make a nuisence of themselves.

Yep - Agree with this. A striker, that is keen to impress, and that has been trained as a striker, and knows the roles... Should have done this ages ago.

Jonathan Wilson's musings: https://jonawils.substack.com/p/the-universal-sadness-of-christopher

Greed and inept leadership has led football into this mess: there are so many games that some players are breaking down under the strain, and yet at the same time the richest clubs are so wealthy that they can buy so many players that some, inevitably, will be left behind. In Nkunku are laid out the dismal consequences.

Re-watched the game and neither Nkunku nor Palmer were as bad as I first thought, albeit clouded by rage and frustration.

He's in a similar situation to Sterling though. He came here as a player who needs to be a leader, a talisman and a champion; he needs to be one of our top 3 players every week. Yes there were tactical issues etc. but at the end of the day he also didn't make an effort to make things happen.

Look at Mitoma's opener, for example; he's a small, pacey, technical player asked to deal with a Route 1 pass. And he just finds a way to make it happen.

I don’t blame him, he’s shown the type of person he is.

The fact the manager keeps picking him when he shows zero respect to the shirt and his team mates with his non existent work rate is more worrying.

I do. He's a bone idle sh*t c**t who needs a good hiding.

To be fair, who isn't these days? Bar maybe 2 or 3 players, no one seems bothered at all.

Ultimately he is not picking himself is he.

After multiple games of lack of trying you can only blame the manager at this point.

The lack of effort is staggering.

While I'm not going to absolve him from blame entirely, I can't help but wonder if throwing him in the B squad, not allowing him meaningful PL minutes regardless of how many goals he scores, and trying to flog him in January has anything to do with that.

He's basically been told he's not wanted and has no future at the club.

Honestly he is the one I understand the most being unhappy.blueco signings wise.

One of the first brought in by a trusted RB person, sees the club sign experience in Sterling , Aubameyang and Koulibaly . Then 105 mill WC winner Enzo, then 115mill on one of the best PL players in Caicedo.

Set to be a centerpiece for Poch, gets injured, misses the season, sees us only make confwrence league and Poch sacked.

Comes back with a manager that does not want him, club wants to sell him but cannot and does not agree to loan him.
