Frenkie De Jong, not a rumour but apparently for sale

I get the setiment but i'm a bit one track minded when it comes to whats best for the club. De Jong would be a gamechanging signing.

If we agree on a fee with Barcelona it should purely be for the transfer of the player. If Barcelona want to use that money to pay back his deferred salary that is their decision, and not something we should agree to take on. I don't know what sort of fee they would be looking for if he was to leave, but I assume they will try to bump it up by 17m to cover the deferred wages. Do we really want to be paying that sort of total, plus I assume continuing with the player's excessive wages which could in turn unsettle the rest of the squad?

Chelsea are ready to pay the full transfer fee and cover Frenkie De Jong's current deferred salary with FC Barcelona.

I call BS there. No way we pay anyone 500k a week, it would destroy our wage structure.

don’t see that happening either

we might demand the fee to be lower so we can pay Frenkie directly as in a sign on bonus

Unfortunately,  it'll never happen. Just me for the ice cream then!

It would be pure madness to help Barcelona out of the jam they are in, plus ruin our wage structure, all for someone I don't think we even need really.

Right now no, but last year we didn't need a CB urgently and look how that ended. We're in a similar situation now with two CM's on their final year and the odds of a player of Frenkie's calibre being available next year is very low.

Todd Boehly personally called Frenkie de Jong several days ago, but he reiterated his desire to fulfil his contract at Barcelona. Despite the no, #Chelsea are continuing to try.

i wonder how much more of Barcelona’s sh*t he will take. Or is this his way of trying to get his backpay

Agreed. If those 17m are a kind of signing fee for Frenkie that's one thing - let's just hope he doesn't expect a "regular" signing fee on top of that. 😄

He has been consistent in his position of wanting to remain at Barca. I don't see it changing. Barca cannot force him to leave.

Dont forget that dinner Todd had with them

I would say barca want someone else to pay what hes owed on top of a fee to rid them of their legal troubles with him (they must have enough stuff going on that even hamlin hamlin and McGill wouldn't be able to cover!) His camp think its all BS and want to keep barca to their own contracts which is why they're (barca) trying to say they will go court about it because they cannot afford it at all, So now its a case of either forcing him to accept less and re sign on a lower wage, Go to court and potentially lose or sell him and get all the costs taken care of, If FFP was real they should also be very worried because there's no way what they've done recently is right or fair at all, esp as they're still in huge debt!

I did think it would be wild for him to go to utd given the past few years and them out of CL, Would be a drop down even if barca are a mess right now!

He has an array of qualities, seems like an allround upgraded version of today's Jorginho, and is definitely worth a punt if available as a bargain. He won't be a bargain though, particularly his wages, and under these circumstances he simply doesn't suit our needs well enough.

The end of last season, pre season and the game vs Everton may have left us with the blues, but we shouldn't forget that Jorginho/Kanté/Kovacic have more often than not successfully looked eye to eye with the very best in our favoured 3-4-3 system. I see the main limitations of that system when faced with a low block, as in the majority of our league games. The back 3 limits the number of players we can commit going forwards, at the same time our midfield players aren't exceptionally suited to dealing with explosive counter attacks.

I'd like to see a very agressive, physically intense  and disciplined midfielder in the Casemiro/Fabinho/Rodri/Mikel mould, ideally capable of quickly accelerating the game, ready to hoover up counter attacks and drop between the CBs if necessary:

Sterling---Havertz-----X

Kovacic -----X----Mount

Chilwell--KK-Silva-James

-----------Broja----------

Sterling--Havertz------X

---------X----Kovacic---

Chilwell--KK-Silva-James

Undeniably, Rice would be pretty ideal for this, but there must be a player with potential roughly fitting that brief, particularly if initially deployed against the bottom 10 teams. FdJ by contrast is too much of a fairy to fill this role, and would merely improve us in our 3-4-3 ways. If we intend to double down on that system, he could still be a good signing though.

The way things are going they will probably poison him for the insurance money

Mate ive had this lingering always sunny/larry david/south park theory in my mind that its something to do with the ruskis haha

There i am defending roman when really the fecker is involved with this barca farce to stop the yanks turbo booosting us into greatness, They want the russian remembered in west london!

So yeah when you said poisoning him my first thought was 'novichok'!!

OOoo this is hotting up

The Barca propaganda PR AI frikin laser machine is now saying he's rejected utd and wants chelsea!!

Barca way of saying man utd don't want to pay what we need and chelsea have been active as hell - We know they can pay it

tier disgraceful sources the redcafe muppet battalion use but it seems many of them are now changing their tune once again

Could well be a bait job to get utd to pay more but could well be the case, Almost like its in response to utd pretending or really switching their targets

Trying to squeeze barca and vice versa

We shouldn't help barca at all no one should after the way they've been warring but who cares Spain wont let them die regardless so might as well get our finger in the pie before its cold!

just because some barca lawyer says a contract is invalid when every thing else they tried has fallen through doesn't mean it is. Legally this would have been a lot stronger if it had been on the table from the beginning not at the end.

If they have invalid contracts are they not technically free agents?

If that is true that's win win for us surely! Barca are an absolute joke club.

i'm a bit of a lawyer myself and i can explain what the barcelona lawyer is thinking

let me indulge

de facto they are still under contract with the club and the 1 billion buy out clause is still valid, but the salary is criminal and invalid, ergo contract duration is valid but salary invalid.

What these players didn't realise is that Barcelona is in fact a non-profit, therefore -and i have this from a lawyer with very close ties to FC Barcelona (he did the same online law degree as me at the University of Saint Lucia)- Barcelona retains the right to let their players play for them for free therefore making them doli incapax (a legal term we lawyers like to use meaning incapable of guilt) from any claim that they do not pay their players. Ipso facto signing for Barcelona is making yourself available for volunteer work, as stated in their club motto; Mes que un Club (spanish for: more than a club, in fact a charity).

That sounds like a thin argument and hard to see how it  would  invalidate an an agreement(contract) to pay for services. If you don’t pay one player then you don’t pay any. Surely you can’t discriminate against players you want to pick on. Anyhow it’s kind of irrelevant to what de Jong wants which in the end is what matters to us.

i'm more of an expert in Bird law so it's not my area of expertise

i have no idea what these Barcelona lawyers are trying to do.

On a serious note

it doesn't really matter until the point comes when De Jong actually decides he had enough of Barcelona

They are just trying to scare him into a lower paying deal rather than lose him.  I really hope it doesn’t work.
