I’ve seen opinions on this over a few different threads, with the consensus generally being that James or Mount should be our next long term club captain so I thought it would be interesting to see what the majority thought. I’ve included an ‘other’ option as well but I haven’t included people like Thiago Silva, Jorginho and Kante because it’s more than likely that within the next year they won’t be at the club any longer.

Sliva would be natural replacement but he doesn’t speak English - hence why he wouldn’t be given it. 
 

Jorginho- likely to leave. 
 

My choice would Mount I think. James is a quiet personality apparently. Mount also gets it in terms of rivalry. 

I'd give it to Mase as well. Out of the current squad, he's the one that gets the club values, rivalries, is available at least for 90% of our matches and gives 120% whenever he's out there. Still much to learn, but it'd only help him grow imo, while we still have Silva to command our backline. 

Reece is a nice candidate for sure, but still is a bit too nonchalant for my liking as a captain material, even though he's most likely our best player nonetheless. And he's been missing matches because of recurring injuries, so I'd rather have him as vice. 

Mount for me with Reece VC. Both would make good captains,they know the club, what it’s values are, role models etc and have been brought up with expectations for success.

Another option if he comes back into the first team would be Billy Gilmore maybe be in a couple of seasons time

Not that he’s ever going to be good enough but the added bonus of Gilmour wearing the armband would be the chance for the match day mascots to be taller than the captain for the tunnel walk. Extra added bonus of not being able to see the captain in a scuffle, referees won’t be able to hear the dissent. Genius..

I’d go James. Mount is a nice lad, and that’s part of the problem. Think James has more of a killer instinct. 
 

Nice problem to have though - both are fit to wear the armband in my eyes. 

If Jorginho goes think we will need to buy one through filling other positions.

Don't see our younger players as captains yet.

Yea, although James is just 22 he had a bit more steel to him and has a quiet authority about him, someone who can garner that respect easily, whereas Mount is more of a ‘cheeky chap’ 😅/happy go lucky type in the dressing room. 

Realistically, if Dave and/or Jorgi leave, Silva will take the armband as Vice or even Captain pretty quickly.  The group is too junior elsewhere.

So, lets assume they both leave or not playing.  Silva captain, Reece VC?

Seems like Dave has been given permission to complete his move to Barca. 

With that in mind I think it would be a lovely gesture to give Silva the armband for what is his likely last season with us.

Then with Jorgi and Kante both possibly leaving on frees next summer a long term appointment would be needed.

Koulibaly should be considered as he is a national team captain. Otherwise I imagine a 2 way fight between Mase and Reece.

Sterling or Koulibaly probably once they are settled. I don't think it is coincidental that TT's first two signings are big dressing room characters

If Dave leaves, I'd give to Silva for this season.

In the long term, it will be Mount.

Might even be Gallagher a season down the line.
