Actually Bob, 6 1/4 if you're including Jackson.

You have to prepare yourself next season just, I think it will be chuku n madueke turn to be put in the exile bin.

8 attackers for 4 spots is normal.

I know, I know ppl keep reporting that paez and estevao will jump right in the first team but I seriously doubt that. Sure for preseason yeah, but to go from south america straight to the PL at 18 is nuts.

Guiu is a risk at 18 but he has spent it all at Barca. Those 2 need maybe a season or two before joining the squad. Starting with some European football experience first then maybe some in the championship depending on their development. Or vice versa with the "finishing touches" to our style of play done at strasbourg before coming to Chelsea.

KDH is very limited can’t believe we are willing to let Carney go for him.

It's not just for him though. Even in a game like last night it was evident that KDH, Mudryk, Neto, Nkunku, Palmer. Fernandez, have only a token appetite for any form of defensive responsibility.  With Ugochukwu and Santos on loan we now only have Lavia to act as a screen for the defence. Without him there Caicedo gets horribly exposed and overrun.

Carney is a proper central midfielder that can add to the attack but can also work on the defensive side and help us transition up the pitch. With Felix coming in, who I do rate as an AM, and Carney being sold or frozen out, an injury or loss of form to Lavia and we're done for.

To have such an imbalance between midfield and attack and to have depth in defence but no quality whatsoever within that depth and then play a system that expects a single 6 to hold it altogether whilst the GK and defence transform into roles that they have no experience in, Jesus this could get horrendous very quickly.

Chucky needs to stay...

We have a good midfield grp (including chucky) if Maresca is allowed to bench Enzo or caicedo during certain games.

I think that's the real issue...one or the other must start or our owners look stupid and unfortunately that means less game time for Chucks.

Definitely think Chuks can be a top player but let's be fair - he's done nothing since West Ham last August and looked anonymous in pre season.

Agreed he needs game time and needs to be rotated with the others for that game time. Unfortunately without dropping Enzo and/or caicedo every now and then he won't get it. I really hope maresca can work a way out of benching Enzo and caicedo in games when chuck will be better suited but depends if eghbali watches the matches closely or not. Lol

Who didn't look anonymous in pre season. If we're using that as the benchmark then James should be as close to the exit door as well. I think it is probably only Madueke that had a decent pre season tbf. Perhaps Lavia when he has played as well.

I think Carney has had scant opportunity to develop a run in the team and therefore develop as his career seems to be adopting a very similar route as RLC. He might not be up to reaching the early potential but where we are now, we have no other midfielders other than Lavia and Caicedo with any of the basic disciplines of defending behind the ball. 5 yard defenders the most, beyond that and they let the attackers go.

Not accounting for the recovery from longterm injury, the timeout or the new system is simply crazy Gordon. Plus he didn't get a lot of pre-season minutes.

If we let this kid go, we will regret it.

One of my major worries with Maresca so far is the same I had with Tuchel. Not at all sure he knows what a quality young player is, and even he does, will he have the guts to throw him in?

Agreed, but KDH has done nothing in his career.

Every minute we're giving him this season should be going to Chukwuemeka imo. Similar return on field currently yet was has actual upside.

Don't worry - I'm cognisant of the various situations. Fact remains most fans opinions on the lad are based around snippets of skills and the solitary goal against West Ham. As I said I think he can be a top player and agree with others he needs a loan. The issue with stockpiling so many youngsters is we can't give all of them minutes - a major drawback to the strategy.

You pick the ones who have shown the most potential. Not players like Mudryk or journeymen like KDH.

"Chukwuemeka made his first senior start on 24 August 2021 in a 6–0 victory against Barrow in the second round of the EFL Cup, and made his first league start four days later in a 1–1 draw with Brentford, a performance Paul Merson hailed as "outstanding", adding "he will be an absolute star".[11]

Yes, so?

I have already assumed we sold Madueke n Mudryk (not sure possible) and we don't sign any st or a right footed winger.

I think there is a chance we will sell Nkunku next season then chuku staying will be more feasible.

Such a shame about this situation.

I thougt we wanted built something special with young players but we throw them out for worse players i guess?

Why do we get all precious about a player whos hardly played? If we get decent money for him move him on.

If we can get the same sort of money we got for DeBruyne or Salah or more recently Guehi it will be good business.

Or will it?

Obviously he is a young talent and had a few good games for us but i don’t see him ever starting in regular basis especially once the 2 South American talents join us therefore its best for him to find a club where he can play and further his career.
