August 31, 20241 yr Maybe I'm wrong but my understanding was that he was never actually banished from the first team. Maresca said it would be better for him to go somewhere where he could play regularly but he never said that he didn't want him.

August 31, 20241 yr Carney should have definitely gone out on loan. I am very surprised that there was no interest in him in that regard. Crystal palace, Southampton, Brighton etc would have done him good. Sadly i dont see him ever making it at Chelsea with the attacking talent we now have and he is not a central midfielder.

I don’t think lack of interest was the problem, sounded like we were simply asking too much.
August 31, 20241 yr Madness. He’s good enough to be given chances. I don’t mind the loan farm to an extent, buying Ok-ish players to turn a profit. But Carney shouldn’t be considered a loan farm. He’s shown enough.

Apparently United were one of the teams interested but not at what we were asking. AC Milan also.

September 25, 20241 yr Thought this thread might have had a bump after last night. So I'll repost my comments in reply to @WhiteWall in the match thread. Agreed. On a serious note, the biggest plus for me tonight was Carney, finally, finally, being given a chance by Maresca to show his class. Yes, it was just Barrow. Yes, he lost his balance at the last moment and skied a good chance at the end. But look how he ran with the ball. Look how he controlled the ball, how he passed the ball. How quick he was. How strong he was. How creative he tries to be. If some people can't see the sheer quality this kid has what are they watching? What I would also add is that there has been a lot of good things said about Achempong and George as potential stars of the future, but neither of them looked anywhere as good as Carney when Maresca finally put him on the pitch. I genuinely see so many parallels between Carney and the unpolished Bellingham. He can definitely grow into the finished artcle similar to Bellingham. If he can retain fitness I see this guy as a proper, galloping, gliding central midfielder that can dictate our whole play.
September 25, 20241 yr He's a top talent in my opinion, he doesn't get enough credit and it's disappointing.

TBH, to keep hold of the kid, I'd be pleased to see him get minutes from Maresca in literally any position. God knows he deserves the chance. But I had to agree with @Sconnie Blue last night in that I have a strong feeling playing him as an attacking number 10 would give us the most bang for our buck. But the fact that he could also possibly transition into a midfield number 8 role just makes him even more versatile and valuable. He has all the tools. His potential is immense.

I think that if he can stay fit he will get plenty of opportunities to play this season. Maresca seems happy to utilize as much of his big squad as he can.
September 26, 20241 yr I am a big fan of Chukwuemeka. But at the moment his chances of playing as a central attacking mid are very limited - Cole Palmer, Mr.Felix and Nkunku are all ahead of him for that role and so he is literally the 4th choice.

I will be very suprised in chuku get any start this season. His situation is similar to Chilwell. Chuku is part of the bomb squad. Unless maresca want to play political game, I really can't see it Edited September 26, 20241 yr by Bob stark

I disagree...I think the main subs needed game time first especially if he's 4th choice as @TheCeleryKing posted above. I also think @forbzy is right...he will use chucky when the time is right too. I feel a lot of rotation will happen in the ECL, carabao, etc...but priority will be the league's first 11 and the main subs first.

We have such a young squad and plenty games so they will get opportunities and I think what I like most is almost all of those players can play various positions. The competition in the squad is really strong and if used properly, will be a huge plus for the team. As an example some people want Nkunku to play striker which he can do and I think personally he is more comfortable slightly behind but he's probably a better finisher than Jackson. Those two though are bringing the best out of each other even though hardly on the pitch together.

Personally I don't think we see the best of Palmer when he is stuck in a central position. I think he prefers to come in from wide. Ditto N'kunku. I don't see him as an attacking central midfielder by choice. KDH is nowhere near the quality of Carney in an attacking sense. Felix is the player Carney would most be in rotation with if I was manager.

I know some say he can then drift from there and go wide but that then leaves us without a point of attack, and defenders/midfielders can double up on others.
