Saddens me to see you happy with mediocre performances

Now you're just making stuff up LOL

You've been trying to make out like Caicedo is Bakayoko Mk 2 ... all I've said is that is rubbish, which it is ...

Not that bad, but he's performing like a £20m player currently. Not had a performance half as good as Gilmour against Liverpool.

Not Caicedo's fault obviously but we paid Brighton £108m and gave them Billy to not even upgrade. Crazy.

Gilmour is typically the worst rated midfielder in the matches he is involved in (see West Ham game this week for the most recent example). I have no idea why people rate him so highly.

Caicedo might not be a £108m player (and Clearlake know that as well - it was simply the fee that was required to secure his services from a club that didn't want to sell him, and ahead of another club that was also prepared to bid heavily to get him) but he certainly isn't £20m either !!!

He's been playing like a £20m player though, can you name a single moment from him in a Chelsea shirt that was anything more than the bare minimum? The disallowed goal against Tottenham is the only thing i can think of.

Gilmour got the same rating for a draw against West Ham as Caicedo managed in a win against against Luton.

Probably only on that strange site "Sofascore" that you seem to like better than all the more specialist football stats sites that everyone else uses ?

Looking at the Sofascore banner, also a lot of USA sports on there, so an American site perhaps ?

Does Gilmour get extra points for playing in Brighton's  4-4-3 ?

Let's hope they have a better understanding of all the other sports they cover, as they're clearly a bit off on football  !

Nor has Gilmour, since

Gilmore is now really nailing a regular place in the Brighton side. He’s been excellent the last half dozen games or so.

Hes defensively suspect and it was the right decision to let him go although a buy back clause would have been better

I've been on Shed End for 8 years and you are the only person I have ever seen reference this site. It doesn't even come up on the first page of google for a search for "football statistics", and I've never seen it referenced in the football media, or by any of the army of YouTube/Social media content providers. The Sofascore player ratings are about as credible as those of The Sun or the BBC. If you look at their Darts tab, it doesn't even mention of the PDC Darts World Championship - a high quality site indeed LOL. But hey, if it floats your boat then carry on quoting from it ... I just don't think it helps with the credibility of any point you're trying to make though !

What would be your preference moving forward? Fotmob? FBref? Whoscored? BBC?

It's a good question.

My opinion, I would say FBRef, Whoscored and Transfermarkt are probably the Holy Trinity of stats sites for football, just based on widespread usage, what data they have, and how they present the data (usability etc etc). I'd love to have full access to Opta, but they like you to pay for their data LOL (and fair enough). Premier League web site is useful for some aspects as well. None of them are perfect of course (the player valuations on Transfermarkt for example are merely based on user input, which is wide open to bias) but I think these main three are better than most. Fotmob is not one I'm familar with

Would be an interesting topic for discussion to be honest, especially if we could get input from some of the professional data analysts we have in this forum.

Christ almighty, who did we recruit to run the medical dept - Laurel and f**king Hardy? Beyond a joke now.

This is unreal how many injuries we have.... who scouts these guys. and what about a proper medical..

Honestly I've never known anything like it!

I reckon this is down to age.  Very young players pick up muscle injuries as their bodies are still developing to adulthood.  Seem to recall that Steven Gerrard was constantly injured in his early years for this reason (i only know this because one of my mates is a non scouser Liverpool fan and was bigging him up as something special).  Of course I still think our medical department are shocking but some of these injuries might be down to Todd’s policy of only buying kids.

I think it's more down the absolutely ridiculous amount of games players are playing now, most clubs this season hsve had huge amounts of players injured, there's no way it's just a coincidence this is after the covid season with games crammed in, stupid winter World Cup meaning the league went longer, so less of an off season. Also the amount if international games/tournaments is also getting stupid, especially for young players. The under 21's this season played until the middle of July, that's just beyond sensible.

Well I reckon it's down to the stupid strict nutrition diets they are on.  I remember back in the 70's running around Lympstone with a full pack and rifle for 6 months, crawling through, bogs, gorse bushes and the like, running many miles every day w/o most of the squad (18-23 yr olds) picking up any injuries, apart from a good kick in the balls from the training team or falling from 30 foot ropes; we were feed on egg banjo's, bacon butties, chips and other crap followed by a few beers in the NAAFI every night and left there as fit as 'trained athletes'....maybe this lot need to spend a few months pre-season with the RM Training teams before kicking a plastic coated ball around and picking up a hamstring and or other muscle related injuries.

Not sure it’s down to the ridiculous amount of games Lavia has played mate 😂😂

but I get your point

I'm convinced it's over training, trying to squeeze the absolute maximum out of them. They're trained too much in strength, instead of training to be able to run for 90 min's plus. They're more like sprinters, than distance runners.

The same thing happens in other sports, cricketers especially bowlers suffer many more stress fractures, etc, because they are trained in a particular way, rather than developing their own bowling actions etc.

We are all different, and a scientific approach tends to lean towards one size fits all, with a minor modification for individuals, rather than a genuine individual approach.

Lampard was so injury resistant, because after practice, he would put his spikes on and run for about an hour, he conditioned himself to be able to run for well in excess of 90 mins, not peak performance for 60 to 70 mins.
