I'm convinced it's over training, trying to squeeze the absolute maximum out of them. They're trained too much in strength, instead of training to be able to run for 90 min's plus. They're more like sprinters, than distance runners.

The same thing happens in other sports, cricketers especially bowlers suffer many more stress fractures, etc, because they are trained in a particular way, rather than developing their own bowling actions etc.

We are all different, and a scientific approach tends to lean towards one size fits all, with a minor modification for individuals, rather than a genuine individual approach.

Lampard was so injury resistant, because after practice, he would put his spikes on and run for about an hour, he conditioned himself to be able to run for well in excess of 90 mins, not peak performance for 60 to 70 mins.

Over training is a good thought. This is really extreme, but I’ve wondered if there is something wrong with the Cobham pitches creating undue stress and injury!

Not sure I buy into this “age”, “too many games” & “over-training” theories. On the age aspect, Arsenal I think had the youngest team in the prior too seasons and you never had your Saliba’s, Saka & Martinelli out with injuries for periods. That ties into the too many matches; we are playing once a week, while Arsenal had to play Europa games on Thurs & PL games on Suns. As for the overtraining; Poch is probably the most cautious coach we have had in a long time. We bought Lavia injured in the summer, he only played 32mins and he is now out with a “bad bruising” for weeks. We never hear of players playing through the pain barrier anymore, or delaying a surgery till the summer, or even having injections to play matches. Any little injury and they are out of weeks.
I do wonder if the club wasn’t stuck in mid table mediocrity, and actually have a chance of competing for top honors these injuries mysteriously would reduce?

This is bang on. In fact I have pretty much just typed the same in the Injuries thread. First I've seen of this, not plagiarism on my part, honest.

Judging by comments from the Enzo and Caicedo threads, Lavia the DM is the missing link that will get our 200M+ midfield working. Now he's out indefinitely 🙄can't even remember how he get injured, or was he never really fit since he was signed? It's laughable, we just had to sign players who were barely able to run ( or walk) . I wish the lad a speedy recovery, but from the moment he arrived he never looked like he's going to play much this season.

Its amazing the amount of money we've spent on players that can't even play. Lavia, Nkunku and Fofana are almost 200mil combined.

I can see a scenario where we will need to sell some of these unfit/ injured players, and whilst it was easy to buy them in that condition we are going to add another reason for a price reduction when selling because competent sane management teams wont take on players who are unfit at high prices, unlike our crowd upstairs.

Eghbali as a major shareholder must surely be close to doing something other than allowing the  shuffling of the pack of players and managers, the problem is likely to be closer to his door.

There has yet to be any clarification on what injury Lavia currently has. Something feels very odd. Perhaps he is one of the players that allegedly wants out.

Crazy thing is we overpaid by almost £15m and this season is basically a right off. How did he pass his medicals when he was injured?

If he had stayed at Southampton and been injured all season, they won’t have gotten £45m for him next summer. Max would have been £30m, and if I am not certain the numbers would have been fixed. The only person that has benefited from this deal is Lavia who managed to double his wages.

There's no situation where we can sell Lavia. No one's paying 50m+ for him which is what we'd need to sell him.

Absurd that we have so many players that miss almost the entire season.

Fofana, James, Chilwell, Nkunku, Lavia, Chukwuemeka, Chalobah, most of these players haven't even played 10 games this season.

Most clubs will have 1 or 2 if they are really unlucky, but we have 7. It's not the first time in recent seasons either.

The issue I have as well is how many of these firstly get injured behind the scenes and then how many break down or get setbacks I their rehabilitation.  There must be something very wrong with either our training or our medical and fitness team.

And what is the nature of his injury? That's another excellent question asked earlier. The whole thing is a disgrace. It could only be considered if the injury was known before the price was paid and the price adjusted down for that and the club knew he would be out of action for a season. However I regard that as about as likely as me winning the lottery.

At least with Fofana they knew there was a real worry and took him off for a second opinion in the USA. They did their due diligence there. But Lavia is just a complete mystery.
