Hearing some better things from Bayern fans in terms of the attacking football he plays, though he apparently is like Guardiola when it comes to overthinking.

Nagelsmann's record

Hoffeinheim

2015-16: Took over when they were 7 points from safety with 14 games to go, managed to win 7 out of the 14 and they survived by a point in 15th. Decent season.

2016-17: Ended up finishing 4th, qualifying for the Champions League play off. Amazing season.

2017-18: Finished 3rd, though only 3 points higher than 2017. Knocked out of CL in the play off and finished bottom of Europa League group. Still good season.

2018-19: Finished 9th and bottom of CL group. Poor season.

RB Leipzig

2019-20: Finished 3rd, same as last season under Rangnick. Won CL group and reached semi final, knocked out by PSG. Great season.

2020-21: Finished 2nd, one point less than season before. Lost in German cup final. 2nd in CL group and knocked out last 16 by Liverpool. Good season.

Bayern Munich

2021-22: Won Bundesliga comfortably, scoring 97 goals. Destroyed CL group, but knocked out by Villareal in quarter finals. Decent season.

2022-23: Had dropped to 2nd in the Bundesliga, though scored 72 in 26 games. Destroyed CL group again. Fairly poor season.

Overall from the outside I'd say he's a pretty big upgrade on Potter, though hasn't overachieved significantly since leaving Hoffenheim. His teams tend to score a lot of goals even with a poor squad like Hoffenheim which is a good sign. Potter every season at Brighton had trouble scoring in comparison.

He also managed to get a 34 goal season out of Timo Werner which is saying something

EBL is a football analyst who is fairly reputable, he predicted the Arteta uprising and more and he’s also insisting to stay far away from Nagel, saying he’s another Potter.

Potter & Nagelsmann have a lot of similarities.. and not in a good way.

Crazy timing, 10 days before a CL QF v Madrid with Ancelotti, and we give the job to someone even less experienced than Potter, you cannot make this sh*t up. Get rid of the owner, he's clueless.

Yeah there is a big celebration going on like we have currently off Medusas head, only to find we just cut off one of snakes and the big problem is still there.

I don't think he's the best manager in the world or as good a tactician as Tuchel, but he's teams are far better offensively than Potter. Even in Potter's best season at Brighton they were the 3rd lowest scoring team in the league. It's why I found it bizarre when people thought he'd get more out of our attackers than Tuchel. Nagelsmann has gotten 2 goals per game every season at Hoffenheim, around 2.5 at Leipzig and almost 3 goals per game at Bayern. There's no comparison in that regard.

I disagree, as screwed as this season is the manager has been by far our biggest problem. The recruitment hasn't actually been bad since Vivell came in.

Though you could say the real biggest problem is Boehly's erratic decision making, though he was incredibly patient with Potter, Roman would have sacked him 10 times over by now

Nagelsmann's age makes me a tad nervous. Anyone for Jose Part 3?

I love Jose but part 3 would most likely tarnish his legacy. His tactics are seriously outdated at this point.

So the guy who was Potter's assistant at Brighton and worked alongside him for years is now in charge of Chelsea?

Who else would it be?

What's funny to me is that a week ago this would 100% have been Anthony Barry.

The decision was almost inevitable and probably the right one but the timing makes no sense.  At least wait until the end of the season to maintain at least a hint of stability until then.  I have some sympathy for Potter but that's tempered by the fact he took on a job way beyond his capabilities and will no doubt be massively rewarded financially.  I wish him well for the future.

For me, the real blame for this fiasco lays fairly and squarely on the owners who have acted recklessly since taking over the club,  throwing money about like confetti seemingly without a clue.  Sacking off all or most of the previous staff was naive at best. They should and could at least have allowed a gradual transition between the old and  the new.

Nope, I'm with you there. I don't think there are great options available right now. I know Nagelsmann is seen as one of the best young managers around, but his age and German-only experience concerns me. I personally think a Jose return would be great – steady the ship, commands respect so will get an immediate reaction from the players, and is a born winner, despite the difficulties he's faced over the last few years. I'm sure most fans would be happy to see him back home.

No. Maybe on short term basis until the end of the season but he'd never agree to that.

I'd take Pochetino at this point. I'd be surprised if the board haven't been putting out feelers for a while.

There's a running joke at work: if there is someone who is pleasant but who turns out to be useless, his death knell will be when one of us describes him (I work in IT, it's always 'him') with 'He's a lovely guy, but...'

I won't pretend I'm not relieved. There was zero indication, nothing at all, that any positive progress was being made. The results were horrific, the performances were soporific, and there was no consistency, no pattern, nothing being built which indicated that our current pains were in service of a greater end goal.

I also won't pretend that our current situation is entirely Potter's fault. Clearlake's bizarre recruitment and inept leadership have left us with no institutional memory and a bloated, divergent squad which, somehow, despite having spent £600m on new recruits, still has enormous holes in the starting XI. On top of that we have managed to alienate our best player under 30 to the extent that a 'good' scenario would be him going to Bayern. I know I've said this before, but it's truly absurd that we could think back on the Abramovich era as the 'sensible' years.

Please, please, let someone with even an ounce of experience in this sport appoint the next guy.

I've been watching Serie A when I can this season. I think he's doing a good job with Roma and they're playing decent ball (at a time when Serie A is the best it's been in years). And he's had a strange couple of jobs before that – United backed the players over him, and Spurs are just Spurs. I'm not convinced the "outdated tactics" argument, which I've heard quite a bit, is entirely accurate. I'd love to see it anyway. Plus his family still lives on London, right?

Who has gone with him ?

Most new managers want and get there own players and have a clear out.  Not possible here with £600m of players got in last year

I couldn't see him doing that either. Where's Gus at?!

I would personally *hate* to see us appoint Pochettino.

I just think we’re better off with system managers who stick to an idea, Potter & Nagelsmann like to mess around too much. De Zerbi & Enrique still the standouts for me but I just want Boehly and co to really take their time with this one, no hasty moves or anyone fresh from a sacking.
