Thats just bullsh*t

'if you stick with Potter it will get better', bollocks. This is only because it cant get any worse.

We lose the next 4 games we will be in 13-14th place. And then if James and co. comeback, of course we will improve but to what degree? finishing 10th at the end of the season? After inheriting a team that spend 300m, finished 3rd last season, got into 3 finals last season, FCWC winner, you dropped into 13-14th place in the middle of the season is already unforgivable, embarrassing and a disgrace and deserve the sack every single day of the week.

Even with so many injuries that team we sent out last night - is miles better than what Fulham had and not to forget Fulham didnt have Mitrovic. We had all the internationals - Havertz, felix, Dave, Silva, Kovacic, Mount, anyone of them are worth more than most of the opponent team player's combined transfer value.

Not to mention to lose 8/10 games, 1W1D8L? This form can get you the sack even if you are Sunderland manager let alone a Chelsea manager

There's no way Mark Goldbridge would be saying this if it was United, of course he's going to be wanting us to keep him on.

I think the long contract and putting a management team behind him will give a bit longer and with James, Sterling and Felix to come back we will get some results.

I think this is going to be touch and go over the next four matches, can't see him staying without a win and at least a draw.

If we see four consecutive losses I can't see him remaining.

You have to have faith. Look at Arteta's form in his first season at Arsenal:

D 2-2
L 1-2
L 1-3
W 2-1
L 0-1
L 1-3
W 3-0
L 1-2
W 3-0
L 0-2
D 1-1

3 wins in 11. 2 draws. 6 defeats. Now look where they are.

No wait, that is Roy Hodgson's form at Liverpool in 2010/2011.

You know, just because manager x had a sh*t start and managed to improve after a few years, doesn't mean manager y is going to do it as well.. Sometimes it's the wrong man for the job.

You can say it is because it wasn’t his team so he can be more objective

but I seriously doubt that, he is being influenced by the fact that Potter is English and he praised him multiple times before and don’t want to be proven wrong

It reminds me a bit of Mourinho to Nuno. Tottenham downgraded to a B level Jose who was getting massive media hype from his job at Wolves, when Wolves did just fine without him. But they cut their losses as soon as they saw the piss poor results from him.

Unfortunately, Potter is going to have the injury excuse going for him so we'll no doubt see him here next season.

Nonsense. As he said if they had injuries equivalent to Chelsea then they would be struggling too. Look at RM missing Benzema last season they struggled a lot, and that's just one single player. We lost the glue in our midfield (Kante) who has been immense since he arrived. Kante hasn't played a single minute for us this season. That's not Potter's fault. Chilwell has been missing for most of the season, again, not Potter's fault. James out injured again, not Potter's fault. Fofana signs to the club and few weeks later gets injured, not Potter's fault. Take 2-3 key players out of any top team and see how well they do.

Potter already said it's important to have stability in the team, but he hasn't even had that since he arrived. He didn't have a pre-season or transfer window to bring in players he wanted. He inherited this team and the injuries along with it. He can't magically pull results out of nowhere. Also, certain players making dumb decisions and not pulling their weight during games which contributes to poor performances and results.

As I said, the team we put out last night have more than enough talent to beat Fulham without Mitrovic.

Also, losing 8 out of 10 games with 1 win only will get you the sack in Bury, not to mention in Chelsea

typical UK 'pundit' blindly supporting their English mate...

how can a Chelsea manager lost 8 out of 10 games with 1 win only? Sunderland will sack their manager, Ipswich will sack their manager, hell even macclesfield town will sack their manager with this horrific form, but we as Chelsea FC, the team that won CL 2 years ago, finished 3rd last season, CWC winner, got into both domestic cup finals, spend 300m this year with all the internationals in every positions should 'give him time' Bollocks!

Sacking Potter will not fix the core issues.

I wanted Tuchel to stay wasn’t a fan of Potter but sacking him will not fix anything.

Give him until the summer and re-evaluate where we are.
Hiring and firing got us here and we can’t hire and fire our way out of it.

Suck it up, many fans had to go through this throughout their time supporting their club.
When pep leaves city there is no guarantee their success will continue, look at United since Ferguson left, Arsenal, Barcelona, Milan clubs, Juventus I could go on and on but every clubs goes through this and it’s our time.

I pretty much agree with the points Mark Goldbridge makes here. As a rival fan he is level headed and he is pretty much spot on here.

Mark Goldbridge is one of the biggest reactionaries around and spent half of last season begging for Solskjaer to be sacked and Potter is doing a worse job than him. There are zero chances he would be backing Potter now if he was doing the same thing at United.

Sacking him won't fix our issues. That is true, but the decision to hire him in the first place doesn't seem like it's fixing our issues either.

It's only a matter of time when he gets sacked, for now the new owners are acting all cool and calm and they might even do the typical US thing which is to double down and not admit their failure, by spending more money during this transfer window for the short term while still acting as if all they do is for the long term.

Though I do believe that if you keep throwing money something will eventually work, after all our rivals have also spent a lot of money in order to build their teams, I doubt that there is a real plan for the future to win something given that it's all wishful thinking, everyone knows that there is no real guarantee for a younger talent to work out and become world class... Maybe the whole point for the new owners is to lower the club's expectations significantly enough so that later on we turn a profit from selling players like smaller clubs do and for that Potter is maybe the perfect guy for the job.

Update from Ben Jacobs:

Still told no plans to sack Graham Potter after the loss to Fulham. Potter informally assured by board members during the World Cup break he would be backed during the window and given time to shape a squad with his identity.

Potter directly told by Behdad Eghbali and Todd Boehly, both when he joined and before the Premier League resumed post World Cup, that it’s a long-term project. Potter’s job remains contingent on improvement not solely qualifying for #UCL this season.

Right now there hasn’t been any on-field improvement or consistency but I am told senior decision makers at the club feel that’s down to a number of factors beyond just Potter. No alternatives are yet being sounded out.

Chelsea also very conscious changing manager mid-window would put them at a disadvantage with both January and summer targets. With a string of injuries, key recruitment figures not yet in place and the global model being built, Potter expected to get time.

Sometimes a ‘vote of confidence’ can prove to be the beginning of the end (and fast). But sources repeatedly stress no formal or unplanned meetings have taken place with Potter on his future.

I remember the same things a subset of fans are saying about Potter, said the same about Sarri once he came. "he's never won a trophy, blah, blah, blah" but he came here and won a trophy. Is Di Matteo a better manager than Pep Guardiola because he has won the CL? No, of course not. The problem is there are a group of supporters who, no matter what, will continue blaming the coach for everything and have a very entitled mindset thinking we are Chelsea and deserve to be winning every game and challenging for every trophy. Not the way football works is it. Reality needs to kick in and people realise that we aren't the same Chelsea that Roman bought two decades ago. We are moving in a brand new direction and it will take time, probably more time than we imagined, but it is what it is. Suck it up.

Sarri had us in the top 4 all season and we probably win the League Cup vs City if it wasn't for Kepa's antics. What Sarri did is levels above what Potter has done. It's not just poor results, the performances have been just as bad under Potter, there isn't a hint of improvement in 4 months.

I loathed Sarri as our manager and I would still agree with this.

I think this will come to a head if we lose a home game at the Bridge. The "you don't know what you're doing chants" will kick off and the hostility will turn towards the Americans and that will be the trigger.

I am encouraged by Matt Law discussing a squad clear out though. Personally I think the squad and Potter should be part of that.

which one would be first to be chanted?

1. You dont know what you're doing

2. Sack in the morning

3. We want Potter out

4. You not fit to wear the shirt

I won't deny him underperforming, but I think everybody should be able to understand that the problems at this club go above his head too, so I kinda fail to understand the toxicity from parts of the fanbase towards him.

I mean if you support the club, then why would you want it to practically burn about 100mio, which it would mean if the owners sack him now, before the club has any chance profiting from signing him at all.

Yes, the current form statistics are really bad and there is a clear negative momentum which we all can see, which he has to find solutions for to stop and to get results, but I don't see him as the culprit for the current crisis, so as long as we aren't in clear danger of relegation in this constellation, I don't think it makes strategically sense to sack him, pay him off and sign another manager just to end up midtable or even in the bottom half of the table anyway.
