Auba's sort of the opposite problem of our recent strikers (despite the gaffes today). He's actually is an above average finisher but his contributions to the play of the team is pretty terrible. Broja really ought to come on pretty quickly here.

They were the better side after switching to 4-3-3. 3rd game in a row where Potter starts a really dodgy ill fitting initial lineup.

Broja on for Auba early and then Pulisic should be on for either Sterling or one of Jorgi/RLC depending how the game is going. If they have good control go 4-2-3-1 if not stick with 4-3-3 to try to combat in the middle.

First games under Potter were promising but now we look like a mid-table team.

Mid table manager mid table team...☹️

I understand why - to be honest, we have a bit of a weird mix of players. We have no real DM since Kante has become a full-time patient.

We have no replacement wing backs to continue our attacking play, so we cannot sustain a formation.

In truth a lot of these players are over hyped because they are all what we could get. We talk up players that we have bought simply because we boughtbthem. Cucurella is looking like a Championship player just booting the ball away, half the team can only play at half tempo and the people we rated as marquee players clearly are not.

Formations? Whatever. The reality is that our midfield and forward players are just not as good as theirs. Not on this showing

I think without a 3rd CB he will be dragged to cover in wide areas during the defensive phase.

I don't think so. If anything when you have two midfielders next to you, it would help him tremendously and his physical weakness with be minimised because all of a sudden he doesn't need to cover more ground. If you had put Pirlo on a back 3 he would look terrible but he always played with 2 midfielders next to him to support him defensively.

Yep - Sterling is a bit concerning. I haven't really watched him much recently at City, so I'm surprised his ability to dribble seems to have dissipated - that was by far his best asset.

Dribbling was never Sterling's best asset. His best asset has always been his movement and ghosting behind defences.

But those two aren’t sitting next to him.. they are much more advanced.. look at the anthony chance .. in most cases we will be defending with 4 .. 2CBs Jorgi plus either one of the FBs

I think we have looked a mid table team for a long time and the under achievement of our rivals has given a false impression. Even jow we are dropping out of the top four and we wouldn't be near if the scouse weren’t imploding atm

Well the positives are that the issues were identified before half-time and addressed. Another is that we have options on the bench who are usually a poor fit, but who might actually suit a game in which there is space to run into: Pulisic and Ziyech (if he can be arsed).

Obviously we cant have both CM going forward at once. When we played with three midfielders in the past Ballack and Lampard would often take turns to go forward, or Essien. Very rarely we left Makelele alone.
