December 20, 20223 yr Just popped in for a read and to see how the forums going and wished I hadn't. Very sad to hear of the passing of Lofty. always a witty addition to the place back when I used to frequent it and although I never knew him Its brings it home to you how quickly things change, you turnaround and nothing stays the same. RIP Lofty.
December 22, 20223 yr Very sad news. One of the most outstanding posters on this board. His breadth of knowledge and stories particularly about the old days was priceless. RIP Lofty
December 27, 20223 yr Lofty/Roger will be cremated on Friday 30th December. His sister Janet asked me to help her out planning the ceremony, so these are the songs we have chosen. The Who Baba O'Riley David Bowie Ziggystardust (Lofty's cat was called Ziggy and he worried more about Ziggy than he did about himself) and Warren Zevon who wrote this song for his wife not long before he died. And Roger's niece Amy is going to read this poem by A. E. Housman Into my heart an air that kills From yon far country blows: What are those blue remembered hills, What spires, what farms are those? That is the land of lost content, I see it shining plain, The happy highways where I went And cannot come again. It is really about the First World War, but I imagine the blue hills asthe terraces at Stamford Bridge with Lofty leaping up and down. He was six foot seven, so his head would be way above others without having to leap. So, these were my contributions. Oh and Janet is going to read out Loz's superb encomium. including the foul-mouthe cantakerous bit!!
December 27, 20223 yr Very sad news. The old bugger is probably better off now, although sadly for the family his presence will no doubt be sorely missed. At least he is with no pain or suffering and having to live in a world of hate and war and even worse seeing Arsenal and their twat of a manager sitting atop the table. R.I.P. Tommy I'm sure a few more of use will be joining you in due course, where we can start a new forum from beyond the grave.

And when we have joined him we can all be ghost friends and hold hands and jump through the walls at Arsenal and scare the sh*t out of all the players and supporters.
December 28, 20223 yr Ah very sad news! I had many a run-in with him under his various handles but he was always an entertaining Shedender. R.I.P Roger

December 29, 20223 yr Can't say I knew him but I did say that I knew why he had the " upsetter" name. He told me in fact it was from an old reggae song from way back. always sad when one of the Chelsea family departs.. RIP

January 7, 20233 yr Sad to read this, always enjoyed his posts on the game and stories of the past. Absolutely loved it when he would go off at whatever resident dipper we had lurking around at the time😅 RIP mate.

Mind you, he never did it to me; I would have had to chastise him if he had.

January 10, 20233 yr yes, but within a few days he would pop up with a new name which would last for a while until another explosion erupted. And at one point we had newbies pretending they knew all about Lofty, when clearly they couldn't have. He used to phone me and explode when he'd been banned, saying it was all the other f**kwit's fault. and I would say things like, "well, try calling him an ignominious moron next time!" He would laugh and say "Nah, people might think I was a poofter if I talked like that" Give my love to Ruhbuhjuh next time you're talking to him. x

January 13, 20233 yr Large kudos moi for the news & your thoughtful choice of songs et al. He was a spirited, provocative poster who lived on the edge & so, keenly appreciated by other spirited, provocative posters among us. He was old decent chels & will be missed. We all seem to be avalanching down that rickety slope now. I hope he felt no pain at the end - salutations Lofty you sublime rascal.
January 13, 20233 yr Well, he was in some pain. He has stage 4 Prostate cancer which had spread to his bones. He fell over at home in the afternoon at 4p.m., managed to crawl to the phone to call for an ambulance --- which arrived at 1.30 a.m. His sister rang me to tell me so I was able to have a very quick word with him at the hospital. Then they dosed him with morphine. He fell asleep and didn't wake up. It is a bloody waste. If they had removed his prostate when the cancer first appeared two years ago, he would still be cursing and swearing at all the f**kwits. I am torn between anger and grieving.
