Enzo Fernandez - Officially a Blue!

Santos has earned the right to return and be a starter, imo, alongside Caicedo. If Enzo also must start then we should switch to a 433, and have a manager in mind that plays that way lined up before the CWC.

Fixed that for you 😎

100 million on a championship level player, only turns it on against relegation clubs and championship and div 1 levels... Got to move him on in the summer.

In fairness I nearly did this for Enzo during the game yesterday.

Bulgarian top-flight team Arda Kardzhali apologises for holding a minute's silence for former player Petko Ganchev, only to discover he is still alive.

You can't play him in a 4231/433 unless there is a DM supporting him, and traditional DMs that actually sit in front of the defense are a dying breed. He's had more bang average games than good games and a lot of it is down to his own limitations.

  • He's ineffective playing as a CAM or the advanced midfielder.

  • He's defensively awful when in transition. Players bypass him with ease.

  • He isn't press resistant to play as the deepest midfielder (both Poch, Scaloni and Maresca identified that).

He's not like MacAllister for example who can play anywhere in the midfield 3 given he has the pace and technical ability to do so.

Formation is largely irrelevant unless it's a complete change like 3 at the back so that's not really he issue at hand. I will concede that he is not press resistant and can be bypassed.

To be honest, I haven't been very impressed by Tchouameni the few times I've seen him, especially last CL game against Atlético.

He hasn't been great this season, being shifted to plug holes at CB. The game against Atletico was his first at DM in awhile and he looked off the pace.

But much like Yaya Toure at Barcelona, I do believe he could be a world class CM given the right tools. At Chelsea he would be playing alongside one of Caicedo/Lavia/James, allowing him to play a CM role more akin to the one he excelled at Monaco.

I have said before - A cracking player. We just need to be able to unlock him. Our slow and stagnant system doesnt suit.

How come he couldn’t hack it under Poch when we had a fast attacking tempo?

I hope I’m wrong but he’s never going to make it in PL imo

To be fair the pace in almost every other league is slower than the Premier League. Even a match between Argentina and Brazil is much more of an old school chess match than any regular prem game.

I personally enjoy that a lot more than this headless chicken football that is the current Prem. Quality visionaries and passing maestros like Enzo are much more at home than in the muscle league of Prem.

Anyway I think Enzo's done okay this season. Experience does that.

So it looks like the way to get Enzo to not be a liability is to play 4 other CM's behind him.

Modern day Paul Pogba without the excitement. Hope the Madrid interest is concrete.

The line up (4-1-3-2) on Sofascore suggests that Argentina have given up on him as a midfielder as well LOL

With Jackson out, perhaps Maresca should have been playing him up top 😎

Nah I much prefer the auxiliary LW role Maresca has him in. Where he and Cucurella take each other’s space.

f**k me we need to get rid of this Italian fraud.

Enzo's been okay for a while in a much tougher league surrounded with much less experienced players at Chelsea compared to Argentina.

Naturally a game against Brazil is a tough one but less pacy than your average run-forrest-run league game. More of a chess match...

Argentina at full swing are a hard working, very technical team. The intricate passing and movement in tight areas. Brazil couldn’t touch them. They lured Brazil out of position, played a direct pass and completely carved them open.

I’d wager it’s the slow tempo football that’s killing our players moreso the league. I don’t know.

Poch's system has always been so reliant on the 9. Enzo plays best in movement football. Such a beautiful assist though. I feel like Enzo is becoming the anti- Mason Mount. Mount to me is the most overrated player by this board, and Enzo the most underrated.

Jesus, let's not wax lyrical about a cross into a goalkeeping error, otherwise anyone playing against Robert Sanchez has the right to be the next Kevin De Bruyne.

His performance proves what he player he can be, but he rarely shows this level of enthusiasm and movement at Chelsea or in the Premier League and certainly never for a full game because he can't sustain that energy at club level.

Fernandez's best comparison is Billy Gilmour, living off a game vs Liverpool in distant memory.

We didn't have a fast attacking tempo under poch. Nowhere near it.

It was pretty much the same stagnant and sideways football we have seen under enzo, and under the last few managers.

Go and watch Chelsea vs Forest from the tail end of last season for a snapshot of Pochball at chelsea.
