February 27, 20233 yr Author Enzo's best football came when he was paired with a traditional DM like Paredes or Florentino.
February 27, 20233 yr I got really confused when Zakaria got subbed on and still played ahead of Enzo most of the time. Potterball is really amusing.

Because, like with Kante, using a player who's main attribute's his physical qualities as a sitting DM is a total waste. Potter's doing a lot wrong at the moment, that isn't one of them.

But if the plan is to give Enzo more freedom to influence the game all over the pitch, isn't it better to make Zakaria adjust to a sitting role than letting our biggest signing play as a powered up Jorginho who will still get run past by players? That's what loses me in the so called "project", I have no idea what we're aiming for as it all seems a game by game decision, even stuff that affects the long term like playing Ziyech/Auba. Every day someone is playing a different role and I have no idea what we're building at the moment except gathering expensive signings.

It boils down to Enzo needing a ball winner or aggressor as a partner. Be it a physical/aggressive box to box or a traditional DM. That is the profile he needs. Not a RLC or Kovacic.

A solid structure mitigates most weaknesses. Putting deep playmakers further up the pitch sounds great in theory but in reality it limits them, the don't have the same freedom to scan their surroundings. Everytime Cesc moved further up the pitch he was woeful.

Only played a deeper role as he got older.
February 27, 20233 yr Author Yeah Cesc's best season at Arsenal in 2010 came when he was essentially a #10. Transition to his time at Barcelona he was arguably even better as a false 9. It was only when his legs were shot that he moved deeper.

Every time he was moved up to 10 to accommodate Ramires/Matic pivot he was a rabbit in the headlights.
February 27, 20233 yr Enzo is doing great, he's all over the pitch, at moments only him and Felix tried to create something. He doesn't need anyone to babysit him like Kante, he does it all alone. But obviously a better partner would help. Edited February 27, 20233 yr by Gol15

Given how quickly he wanted out of Benfica, and what the Benfica fan on here said about his ambitions and loyalty, I would not be surprised if he is truly shocked at the mess we are and his agent is already on the blower to Uniteds prospective owners as well as City and Real.
February 27, 20233 yr Author More and more reason to have a massive overhaul in the summer in midfield. Still needing to rely on RLC of all players.

Enzo is by far the best signing we could get and now you can see a clear difference between him and the rest, RLC is only playing PL football because he's from our academy, otherwise he wouldn't make it. I thought Ruben was better than Enzo against spurs
March 11, 20233 yr Author So glad Boehly and Eghbali bent over backwards to get him. Top, top player.
March 11, 20233 yr A total delight: great passes, ball circulation, ball recovery, he has it all, there's a lot we will miss playing him as DM, i hope Kante comes back in great form soon.
March 11, 20233 yr He’s a top quality player. If we hadn’t have signed him in Jan, I suspect that he would have gone elsewhere in the summer, and we would have been crying out for a player of his skill-set for the next few years.

The thought of splashing 150m on Rice as a sole DM whereas Enzo balled out at the likes of Liverpool or City would’ve genuinely had me fuming. Edited March 11, 20233 yr by Sconnie Blue
March 11, 20233 yr Genuine talent. I wish I could see prime Kante playing next to him. The perfect midfield partner came when Kante is on his last legs as a footballer.
