Does anybody else think it's odd that we are signing these flair players and bring in a coach like Maresca to manage them? He's from the Guardiola school of coaching, and we all see what happens to flair players under Guardiola. Just look at Grealish.

What does Maresca have to do with it?

...he will be history, and there will probably have been 1 or 2 other managers who have been and gone by the time Paez joins.

I think grealish I just not that great a player. Mahrez Sterling Foden Robert Robben etc didn’t they all flourish under him.

With him being exactly 17 years and 53 days old, it makes the future Chelsea man the second youngest player in history to find the net in this competition.

Paez beats Lionel Messi and Neymar as younger Copa America goalscorer
This takes him ahead of the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar in terms of making a statement early into his career at the international level.

Paez’s celebration will have caught the eye of a number of Chelsea fans too, with him seeming to copy the one made his own by Palmer at Stamford Bridge last season.

It’s a fair point to be fair. Paez & Estevao are joining next season.

Pep’s style of football has evolved for the worst as the years have gone by to honest. A couple of seasons ago he placed an emphasis on width, and fullbacks like Cancelo & Walker were key to the system. You watch them now with the 3-4 CBs system and he is very pragmatic. The focus is now on interior creative players, and they try not to turnover possession.

Grealish at Villa, for all his diving and rolling around, was a free spirit, inventive, producing something out of nothing. Pep has turned him into a cog in the machine. Worst career move Grealish coud have made in terms of his potential.

Mahrez, Sterling, Robben all played with less flair than what we saw of them before Guardiola though. I don't think Grealish is anything great either, but he doesn't even attempt to dribble the ball like he used to do.

I thought Guardiola made Bayern much worse when he was in charge. He tried to have them play like Barcelona, but Bayern had surpassed his Barcelona side, they were the better team and played with pace and flair. Guardiola took that out of them and it made them weaker.

Y’all seriously overrating Grealish.

It's not about how good I thought he was. It's about the type of player he used to be before joining City. He was a flair player, and that has all but vanished since joining City.

Reckon he wouldn’t be any better than he is now at City.

well anyway Maresca isn't Guardiola nor does he have a season in the premier league under his belt. Bit early to say what impact he will have on ab 17 year old's career. I'd love to see how Guardiola did with an average squad. Look at Ancellotti came in an coached Everton for a season.  I admire that.

Don’t know what he will do with the team, but if there is one thing we DO know about Maresca is his player development skills are off the charts. Even the average players coming out of City’s EDS from the period have excellent field awareness, near flawless technical skill, and an almost eerie mental toughness.

The Copa has been great so far for one thing in particular: I worried how Kendry would handle the physical rigor and sometimes down right dirty play of the PL.

Question answered. The Cops so far has been more than just down in the mud, it has been kill or be killed, from high studs to choke holds. And Kendry …. Hasnt needed protection. In fact he got back and imposed a very well hidden bit of retribution in the Venezuela game. In 50/50’s he’s been taking the spot, often from bigger guys.

Very impressive.

Tonight (europe timezone) is Argentina - Equador. I am thinking about watching that.

Kendry and Moises will most definitely start, hopefully Enzo too.

I really like the fire and borderline criminal tackles that happen in South America. Nothing of the sort is at display in the Euro's for example. I don't want anyone get hurt but I love the passion down there although many times it is a bit silly as well.

Kendry Paez could well be ready for the Premier League 25-26 season.

Tonight or tomorrow night?

I would love to watch kendry actually play and these mad tackles. I've never seen these south American teams play apart from at the world Cup, if there.

The Euros have so far been far better spectator sport than the Copa. To start with the American commentators just aren't football commentators. I'm sure they know the game really well but they just don't quite get it commentary wise. Secondly the crowds seem a lot smaller. Thirdly the football seems heavily concentrated in midfield and despite many brilliant players the teams don't seem to play at quite the same level, generally speaking. Brazil v Colombia there was a huge range of talent on offer but it was a dull game.

Starts in 35 minutes as I type. Looking forward to some footie. 11:00 am here in Sydney and since I work my own hours I can start the game 30 minutes after kick off and skip injuries and half time. Technology makes footie watching pretty easy these days.

Can you keep doing that for our matches next season, pretty please? 🙏
