If you don't play Silva a lot of the making the first forward pass load will fall on Colwill because Disasi is limited there. I just hope we stop playing a back 3, that's all.
August 18, 20232 yr Need a first win in the bag here although I have a nervy feeling that this is reminiscent of last season where we had a great performance Vs Spurs despite the result. Kante gets injured and then the wheels fell off in subsequent games. Let's pray Gusto can be a revelation at right back.

August 18, 20232 yr Can see Disasi playing right back for this one for defending the set pieces and long balls with Silva alongside Colwill. Edited August 18, 20232 yr by dan_cfc

Makes sense Dan, especially as Chilwell seems to be the full to bomb on down the wing. The right sided player can be more defensive. Disasi seems to be decent on the ball too.

I was thinking merely on both Colwill/Mudryk's strengths. Colwill with his swerved passing and Mudryk exploiting West Ham's back line. I do agree however with Disasi at RB this game.
August 18, 20232 yr Can Disasi definitely play RB? I think if we want the extra help on set pieces, then if he's fit I'd rather see Trev there, has done a job in that position before for us. That said I personally would start Gusto, to spend what was it? £50m? on a fullback and not start him when Reece gets sidelined could send the wrong message. Plus he's got exceptional recovery pace, could snuff out counters potentially. I would expect us to dominate, and for West Ham to park the bus a bit, Gusto came with a reputation as a great crosser, and Chilwell can score and create as we all know. Start them both I say, let's get a goal early, and then if that make West Ham come out and play we can tear them open and score a few more.

Chilwell is by far your best bet. You need somebody who can carry the ball from deep to feed murdyk high. Similar to what enciso offer for mitoma.

August 18, 20232 yr It's been a long time ago when I actually had doubts to think about the starting lineup for a positive manner. Very strong competition, new faces, new team and it's very exciting. In our last game we had poor 20 minutes, but then we looked like a team and could end up with a victory, we're favourites here and need to prove it. I'd go with this lineup: ------------- Sanchez ---------- Gusto - Disasi - Thiago - Colwill ----- Caicedo --- Enzo ------ Sterling --- Chuku --- Chilwell ---------- Jackson ---------- Basically in defense we play 5 but in attack, Chilwell plays like a winger and he was very good at it. I'd keep it for another game like we did against Liverpool. Can't wait for the game! COME ON CHELS!!!
August 18, 20232 yr I personally think we shouldn't tweak our system too much against West Ham. Liverpool I understand, but not West Ham. Back 5 is going to put a lot of emphasis on our wingbacks again and I don't want to do that when this team needs goals.
August 18, 20232 yr We did not change our system against Liverpool that much. But we played with two fullbacks wide when in possession, where in the pre-season one of the wide players were often a winger. Pochettino tactics with us so far have been 4-2-3-1 out of possession, and 3-2-4-1 in possession. Against Liverpool we defended with James - Disasi - Silva - Colwill in a four. Chilly was then wide midfield. In possession James pushed high and wide, with Sterling going inside. Pochettino also confirmed this in the press-conference.
August 18, 20232 yr Well no doubt they will be up for it. Expect to hear the usual songs about some bloke called Fat Frank and a new one about how they are champions of Europe. Righty oh, as if. We need to disconnect the electric cable and overturn their caravan early doors. 3-0 Chelsea.

Reality is many away games will carry this tone as teams build a David vs Goliath atmosphere, and we’ve a marker on our back due to the spend. We need to get the ball on the ground and show them where we are headed as a club. Complete focus is needed, and if we are prepared to match and exceed west ham work rate, we will get a result.

If spending makes a team better we should win easily. But as we all know......
August 19, 20232 yr Judging by the state of some of the starting XI's on this thread, some of you need to lay off the booze 😁
August 19, 20232 yr Author Sanchez Gusto Disasi Colwill Chilwell Caicedo Gallagher Enzo Madeuke Mudryk Jackson Thiago on bench, time to test the two fittest young center backs and see how they gel together without Thiago. Three in your face midfielders with tenacity. Three pacey forwards for the counters.
August 19, 20232 yr I've really enjoyed this week with my big, happy, optimistic head. Would love a win tomorrow so I can have another enjoyable week as Chels.
August 20, 20232 yr Hard to believe Saints let their skipper, and only true world class player, JWP leave for just 30mill. Chances he repeats his trick against us again like last season?
August 20, 20232 yr Hope we line up this way: Sanchez Disasi - Silva - Colwill - Chilwell Caicedo - Enzo Sterling - Chukwumeka - Mudryk Jackson In attack it will look like this: Sanchez Disasi - Silva - Colwill Caicedo - Enzo Sterling - Chukwumeka - Mudryk - Chilwell Jackson Come on Chels!
