Can we stop talking about him please. Every time I see a new post I’m scared he’s been injured. Lock the thread please.

Give him more time, he has not been here long enough to catch that Chelsea trait.

Palmer wasn't very good playing at No 10, but when he went to wide right and Sterling played inside, all of a sudden we started to cause problems. I'll put my hand up and say I was an advocate of playing Palmer at 10.

But I don't understand why it didn't work? Does he need more space to operate in? Or just too one footed?

Good questions Oz. Think we need to see him more in a 10 to find out. He does score from attacking a number 10 position

Proper player this lad.

Do not move him away from the middle when Nkunku is back please. Nkunku needs to be either up front or on one of the sides.

We only started playing better in the second half against Sheffield United because Poch swapped Sterling and Palmer, so Sterling was central and Palmer was on the right.

You're saying you want to keep Cole in the middle ?

I do think Cole is better in the middle still, he was excellent against Brighton in the cup game playing there. I don't think there's anyone else who can do what he can do in the CAM position.

In my opinion, once Nkunku is fit he should be in the central role with Sterling out left and Palmer on right. Mudryk making way and going on the bench.

It is the angle of how he play and how he receive the ball. This is related to how the opp defend though.

Cole is our best attacking player by some margin.

Playing wide on the Right gives him a moment of space you don't get in the middle and he looks up and finds the running man which starts our attacking phase.

Kane-like he will also come into midfield to get on the ball and make things happen.

Our most creative player since Hazard went for me.

By a mile. And our most watchable.

I'm calling him Goal Palmer! Jokes aside fair play to Pochettino and the coaching staff realising the need to bring him into a less congested area by switching him to the wing.

Theoretically we would assume he would be better as the number 10, but as evidenced in the previous game when playing against a low block they will usually pack bodies in and around that penalty box meaning Palmer is less effective closer to goal in centeral areas due to the sheer number of bodies around.

I actually think it was also really smart to put Sterling centeral behind Jackson. Rather than playing as an attack mid or 10 Sterling played as a striker support similar to Griezmann in his first stint at Athletico.

Giving us another option centrally whilst also having pace still with Mudyrk down the left and Palmer tbf is no slouch and can drop a shoulder on the right hand side.

I would personally go with that again next game as Newcastle will definitely look to do what they did again earlier in the season to frustrate us. We will need Cole to recieve the ball in space and isolate players 1v1 in order to influence the game in our favour.

I don't think you play Palmer as a number 10 in a 4231. Personally I think if you want him to play as the playmaker it's either on the right wing or in a midfield 3 again on the right hand side similar to B.Silva.

Its refreshing to see a player with a nice tally of goals and assists.  I'd agree with the above comments on most creative player post Hazard, and arguably the first sign of an attacking big game player returning to Chelsea.  Cole doesn't shy from moments of responsibility, and what we all love to see is a player with end product.

Nice start to his Chelsea career, and excited for what the back part of the season will bring as his influence grows.

Are you talking about Sterling or Palmer?

Why mention Sterling in the Palmer thread?

Palmer and Gallagher have so far been our best players this season by far. Sterling (one or two great games followed by four sh*t ones) doesn't come close.

I personally don't think Gallagher has been very good either though. He's hard working, but quality on the ball has been terrible throughout most of the season. He's not scoring or contributing much to our attacks, he makes the wrong decision or gives the ball away in good positions far too often. He's getting in on hard work alone right now and it's not enough. It may be enough for a team in 10th, but we don't want to be anywhere near 10th.

He might not be perfect, but so far he has been better than both Caicedo and Enzo who cost us a combined £215M!!

Anyway, this is the Palmer thread and hopefully we are ALL agreed he has been the one shining light so far this season.

Definitely, bang for buck as Todd would say.

Think that's leaving me questioning Poch moreso than the players.

Don't get it either Scott, I think I'm watching another game. Caicedo played pretty well the other day with Palmer being the obvious MOTM yet people are saying Conor was our best player.

Palmer has been by far our best player this season though, without a doubt, Conor hasn't come close.
