Enzo and Caicedo - worst signings, worst pairing or just worst...

Featured Replies

Fair play to Liverpool they played really well but something just doesn't seem to be right with these two

Better we spent £100m plus on a top striker and kept the midfielders we had...

Caicedo had just one full season with Brighton, He only featured in a handful of games for them the season before that. Considering all that we paid a ridiculous fee for him. I think there is a decent player in there but nowhere near worth what we paid. Maybe 50m at most. When Liverpool came in at the last minute, we should have let him go there and looked at other options.

its always difficult to asses the impact of such players.. i think he will do better and improve but i think Poch's tactics need to help him a little. we dont press enough as a team.. the gap between forward players and defense is huge.. we need atleast 4-5 passes to reachour forward players.. Pool did this usually in 3-4 and i think that is hurting him aswell..

And my word we lose the ball so much the moment we cross the halfway line.. we are always defending in transition... nothing just nothing sticks upfront.. Our forwards keep running cul-de-sac in dribbles .. hardly ever see a 1-2 in the forward areas. Partly because our fullbacks never overlap.

It's true - we often look like we're playing a 4-1-5 formation with Caicedo stuck in the middle surrounded by opposition midfielders. We can't expect to see Caicedo perform like he did at Brighton if we then use completely different tactics.

It's a bit like buying Zola and then pumping long balls up to him and expecting him to win headers.

Another Pochettino masterclass.

The Caicedo purchase is just the entire club in a nutshell for me.
Because what was the bloody idea behind it all? Did no one bother checking with the manager how he wanted to use him? You know, before we broke every kind of record for him.

Brilliant in a certain system/position at Brighton which presumably is why we bought him for a world-record fee.
Then we bring him in and ask him to do something entirely different than what he did at Brighton or Independiente before that. And to no one surprise he's really struggled. He's never proved himself to be a brilliant lone DM with teammates miles off him. Cocked it up again for Liverpools second goal the other day and its just clear as day that every bit of confidence is draining out of him.

Just a shambles. We are 100% being ran by dumbasses.

Our new midfield absolutely dominated the new Liverpool midfield early in the season. 6 months later it is quite evident that Klopp has got them all fine tuned into his tactics and playstyle, whereas we still look like a Sunday team. Its more down to the manager than the personnel imo.

We overpaid, plain and simple.

Don’t disagree that they cost way too much, but even if we’d signed the pair of them for 200 quid, we’d still have a pair of players that are not even hinting that they will ever be at a Lampard, Ballack, Makalele, Essien or even Eddie Newton level.

We were ripped off (willingly) but no price makes this wishy washy nothingness of a midfield acceptable. They’re both being outshone by a guy whose only attribute is running around a lot.

That's what a lot of people aren't understanding, most of the players we have are good players but Poch is making them look awful. Not to say we haven't overpaid, I don't think any player in Enzo/Caicedo's position should be worth that money. But Liverpool bid £110m for Caicedo as well and everyone here w**ks off their scouting team into an oblivion. Nobody can tell me if Caicedo was 6 months in at Liverpool under Klopp he wouldn't be looking like a top top midfielder.

Caicedo's been pretty good all season. If our strikers scored according to xG we could be 4-5th. Now that didn't happen we are going through player by player deciding he is bad, he is an awful signing, we overpaid.

If we were 4-5th Pochettino would be the right man for the job, Caicedo and Enzo would be promising signings and their fee would be maybe up for debate in a few years.

Enzo's created good amount of xG.

Anyway we also can't put all the pressure to our strikers as they are new to the league and or very raw and young. The main attacking threat in our side in Nkunku has been injured all season.

So to summarize we need time to judge. These two and Pochettino but most of all our own expectations of the Chelsea life we live today.

Imagine if we lined up our midfield with Curtis Jones and Szoboszlai whereas Klopp lined up Caicedo and Enzo.

I think there is something of the Lampard managing Rudiger here.

Both of them are a lot better than is being shown, they are being badly mismanaged by an overrated manager.

It's like reading comments about Rudiger and Christensen in 2020 all over again. Both players have performed at a world class level under every manager they've played under until they meet Pochettino, not hard to see where the problem is.

Watch those two magically become the top players they have been under every single other coach when they start being profiled/coached properly again, I just pray that they're still here when that moment comes.

People need to remember a midfield of Kante and Kovacic got torn apart against Bayern under Lampard's tenure.

Under Tuchel, they were difficult to get past.

Exactly how I feel lads.

Poch is being exposed as a poor coach and tactician, which was already known from his time at PSG. We chose poorly again, but we needed a yes man.

Chelsea FC Groundhog Day.

After hiring just about every manager possible under Roman, Chelsea have actually increased their manager turnover under their new owners. four managers in two seasons.

Players have been signed over a 18 month window - the current manager has overseen one of those and faces a battle to keep one of the players he wants in his starting side.

the recruitment has been nothing short of diabolical, players signed for tens of millions more than their value, players signed for no other reason then signing players. Im delighted we've not bought anyone this January.

Fans, who talk up a great game of patience and a squad in development and transition, upon appointing a development manager, literally dont have the patience to give a manager one entire season before the knives are out for. It usually takes a few dodgy results and polls appear online asking if the current manager should be sacked.

Folks, poch needs to be here for the duration of his contract. we won't look this bad next year and despite some pretty poor results, we're doing ok. Poch may even get a couple of signings he actually wants.

Welcome to the post success hangover... Look at united, the same will happen to Liverpool after Klopp, and city when Pep goes. Transition is painful, but without it, the success and joy wouldn't be as fun. We just have to take different joy from the games now as opposed to the winning machine we used to be. For me, I just want the players to give all and leave it all on the pitch. to show they care and are trying. This is essentially a youth team, everyone needs to significantly lower the bar of expectation because you're all just going to be disappointed day after day after day until this side actually is broken up and replaced or it gels, clicks and we fly up the league.

But it's miserable reading round here after a loss.

Fairly sure we started Enzo and Gallagher as the midfield two that day (the opening game). I think Caicedo was still a Brighton player!

If we're set on the formation (which it really does seem like we are), at this point I would approve of us playing completely random combinations of our midfield personnel until one happens to work. My money is on Ugochukwu, Enzo and Chukwuemeka. Gallagher would be fantastic as the first sub on every game (the "twelfth man").

How do people feel about Rúben Amorim?

He has done well at Sporting, don't know enough about him but knew little about Jose either when he came first time.

I think we could all agree Caicedo and Enzo will play a lot better under Klopp or Pep, no debate they are better managers than Poch. But Klopp or Pep won't build a midfield of Caicedo and Enzo, they will add a lot more thoughts than just putting 2 100M+ ( over valued) players together and expect the best. Someone was playing fantasy football for real with these type of purchases and just leave the rest to the manager.
