What really gets me is the players are effusive in their praise of him when interviewed. Colwill, Palmer, Cucu and others seem to enjoy playing for him and have said so.

The owners have turned it all into a fake pantomime, we don't know what to believe! Making the right noises when expected is part of the contract no doubt!

Sonia gave a very different interview after the women's game last week, different to what she normally says and seemed a bit odd.... Eghbali was there at that game!

We haven't won an away league game since December, which is simply unacceptable.

One of the least enjoyable seasons I've experienced as a supporter. Even players like Palmer who had attacking flair about them are now a shadow of themselves.

Maresca's lucky we've got Ipswich (H) next.

The Dunning-Kruger effect, named after psychologists David Dunning and Justin Kruger, highlights how people lacking knowledge or skill in a particular area often fail to recognize the extent of their own ignorance, leading to inflated self-assessments.

Why it happens:

People with limited knowledge or competence may not have the necessary skills to accurately assess their own abilities or the abilities of others, resulting in a lack of self-awareness.

The "double curse":

The effect is sometimes referred to as a "double curse" because not only do people perform poorly, but they are often unaware of their incompetence, making it difficult for them to learn and improve.

Hmmm... Maresca - The Dunning-Kruger effect ?

Urban Dictionary:

The Dunning-Kruger effect = "w**ker"

Last 8 PL away matches:

3 Draws

3 points out of 24.

3 goals scored.

Not sure I am that confident we will beat Ipswich. Could see another 0-0 or Delap hitting a worldy and a 0-1 defeat. One of Ipswich's few wins this season was against us and I heard yesterday that was the first clean sheet Brentford have managed at home all season. We are the gift that keeps on giving. As you say, least enjoyable season of all time bar none. Even relegation seasons were more enjoyable than this one.

Brentford 1 clean sheet at home all season and Ipswich 1 win at home all season. Both against Maresca's Chelsea.

Plays with the hand brake on.. it’s crazy .. we never seem to get simple tap ins.. it’s always a worldie.. it’s so enduro atone to see how our players will reach the opposition half and stop running.. we are so one dimensional and never seem to want to mix it up either .. we play Gusto who is our most technically limited player in the pocket .. our CBs who are our slowest often end up facing their wingers.. our midfield never runs with the ball to beat a press .. it’s so infuriating

He played a team that surely would be more fit to face Legia Warsaw than Brentford. And we should be happy that we got away with a point. I mean, KDH, James at LB, Tosin, Nkunku, as soon as I saw the lineup I got a second pint and then a third one as I knew it was going to be a long match.

Maresca is instilling a level of mediocrity into this team that’s unacceptable. What I’d give for a manager that drives belief in young players and plays to strengths. Our players shrink when they get on the pitch.

I don’t think Maresca can take us forward, but also think he’ll get another season.

In an interesting turn of events, it turns out the manager telling a group of young players they aren't good enough to win the league despite being a few points off top isn't the best confidence booster.

I'm so sick of the mentality that some managers have nowadays, shows how much we miss Tuchel. I can almost guarantee if he was our manager this season we'd be above arsenal in the league and next season with a couple of additions we'd be challenging for the title.

Tuchel was kicked out probably just because he'd demanded experienced players to win here and now. The club decided to go this path and Tommy was kicked out.

You can't demand this young group to win things yet. It is just not possible. You need to give them time and opportunities to make mistakes and learn.

Yes, but there's a difference between "we're still a young group but if they keep playing the way they are then who knows" and "no, this lot isn't good enough to win the league"

I think he will. I don't see us beating Betis and I even see Fiorentina pushing us. I fully expect Isco alone would make a huge difference for Betis against our inexperienced lot.

I don't know about Betis, I never see them, but I see a lot of Fiorentina. They are capable of very very good football. They destroyed Milan in the first half on Saturday.

Sorry I don't get the idea? Could you elaborate

TT was ousted because he's his own man, prickly, doesn't suffer fools. Owners and the SDs wanted a compliant yes man. Potter seemed to fit the bill but it was beyond him. Enter Maresca.

It's really not difficult. You don't tell a group of young players that are playing the best they have played in their career to date that they are not yet good enough. Do you really think Nuno Espirito Santo is going up to his Forest players saying they're not good enough to get into the Champions League? This same Nottingham Forest that finished 17th last season and were expected to be in a relegation fight this season? Just look at the reaction from Forest players after their loss to Villa, none of this "we're not ready yet" they are saying they were disappointed with their first half performance and could have done better. After Maresca's comments about us not being ready yet, we had Palmer repeating the same thing when asked about it in an interview, this same Palmer that was the most exciting player to watch in the league that nobody could shut up about. Very soon after that, Palmer's form massively dips, along with everybody else in the team, and we haven't recovered since.

Football is a very momentum based sport. You don't just say they're not ready now, but will be in a few years, when does football ever work like that? You seize the opportunity now, you can't gamble on everything falling into place 3 years from now. Also, nobody said anything about Chelsea winning right now, I think the fans would settle for football that looks like it's taking us in the right direction more than anything. Why is it such a big ask for this team to at least produce a few performances on par with what we were seeing in October, November and most of December? When is the next truly good performance going to appear? we are approaching 20 games since the form began to dip, and not a single one of those performances has been anywhere near the standard we were seeing before Christmas. We also are showing zero signs of that changing.

If Maresca encouraged the players and gave them the idea that winning the league was a possibility, albeit not likely, surely that's better than telling them they had no chance because they aren't good enough?

Seen people defend Maresca’s decision in dropping Jackson/Palmer. Poch would’ve been crucified last season for doing that by those same people.

They can defend it all they want but the result speaks for itself, we didn't win or even score against a team who hadn't kept a clean sheet at home in 16 games.

Season is long. Narrative changes as the environment does. And there are at least two different outlets Enzo is talking to; media and his players. You have zero idea on what they talk privately. I think in these modern days, players have a say as well. If the players feel they are open to talk about titles and so on I think they will. It is not all about Maresca. I think the players have only praised him in the media.

For example now that we have been close to top 4 all season Enzo came out with the target that now on is Champions league qualification. Earlier in the season they didn't have any set target. I bet the entire group has set that target to themselves and not necessarily the club. it is much nicer to have a concrete Target at this point to feel you achieve something.

And I am not pro-Enzo per say. I like Pochettinos football more. However I think our midfield duo is much more suited to this than the up-and-down mayhem Pochettino had us play. It is not all doom and gloom.

I don't think we have the personnel to compete with solely on transition football.

Who is defending that decision? I only heard people commenting that he had lined up a Conference League starting eleven.

Twitter mongerals who will defend Maresca simply because he isn’t Poch. They care about resting players all of a sudden, especially in games where we need to be winning.
