January 28, 20251 yr Is this one back on? Rumors of a Felix, Duran merry go round transfer swap like Gallagher deal. Villa want Felix but need to sell first. We need a striker and Duran is on our list. Maybe pie in the sky transfer bo**ocks but as wild and raw as Duran is I’d snatch their hand off. If it meant we were rid of Felix and added a much needed striker I think I would. As long as we’re not paying stupid money that is.
January 28, 20251 yr Is he really worth 80m though? Considering we can get Gyokeres, Sesko, hell even Lewandowski for less. Duran seems like a premier league level striker, rather than a title contender level striker.

For one thing, he got identified as being a decent punt by Tony Bloom's data analysis software 🙂 He seems the best bet for a reliable goal scorer who can cope with the rough and tumble of the PL. Plus he's also shown he can hack it in the Champions League. The release clause is not silly money for a striker with his track record, and he's young enough that you could get 5+ seasons out of him. January 28, 20251 yr I instantly thought of him when I saw the Joao Felix links to Villa. Duran is still raw, but I believe he will turn into a lethal striker. I still think Joao Felix was not given enough chances here and I still can't understand why Palmer was not tried even once on the right wing from the start with Felix in the no. 10 position for at least three or four matches...
January 28, 20251 yr Although I love his finishing ability he is a complex person to say the least. Not perfect by any means.

And if we don't weigh in now, Amorim's getting him in the summer

Possibly similar to the summer when they signed Maatsen and we signed Kellyman. The Premier League didn't like that though because both clubs did it to boost PSR, so I'm not sure that will work again.

Both clubs will seemingly overpay for the 2 players to solve some PSR challenges. I doubt Villa would get 80m for Duran in a straight deal but perhaps if they are paying 45/50 for Felix...

But do Sporting want Felix or some other overpaid Chelsea player? More importantly do any of them want to go to Sporting? The only reason this is plausible is because Villa want Felix and the directors love a swap shop PSR friendly deal. ideally we just sell Felix and use the money to buy Gyokeres, but Villa need money to buy Felix and we are the only ones willing to help them out. The way I would have done it (yes I know I’m not paid a fortune to make these decisions) is not bother signing Felix to begin with. It’s pretty clear from his loan stint he’s not good enough. Then, this is the part where the maths gets complicated - I would take the Felix money and the extra Duran money, combine it together to pay Gyokeres’ release clause. Bingo Chelsea’s got a new striker

January 28, 20251 yr I'm surprised we never considered the Ukrainian striker, Artem Dovbyk. 24 goals for Girona last season, then 24 goals the year before that in the Ukraine League. He's currently on 8 goals in 20 apps for Roma this season.
January 28, 20251 yr If we’d got Duran for the 30-40m we were looking at paying last summer, it might’ve been worth a punt to see how he develops. Not sure he’s improved so much in a few months that he’s now worth double that. But we are where we are and a swap deal with Felix wouldn’t surprise me. Would Felix want to go to Villa though?
January 28, 20251 yr Seems the general media concensus is that we have not made any fresh moves for Duran. Villas price Tag set at around 84mill.
January 28, 20251 yr If Villa would take Felix off our hands for what we paid, potentially +5/10M then we only had to add the 30M for Duran then in a roundabout technical way we would only be paying the 35/40 we were quoted in the Summer. Either way Duran is already 10x the player Jackson will ever become so I’m all down for it, also doesn’t have massive flop written all over him like Osimhen does.

What £84 mill...for someone that sits on the bench half the time...still I think it's bad business to hang Felix out there. I blame Maresca for the poor handling of both Felix and Nkunku, both could have been decent signings, if they go what are we left on the bench. I don't see decent bench any more, just mediocre players freezing their nuts off for 80 mins with the hope they might get 10 mins to run around and get warmed up before the whistle blows. Maresca has really fckued this squad up from start to finish. And if Duran does come in and start and Jackson sits on the bench...boy he'll have a strop on.

January 28, 20251 yr £84m for Duran (who has 7 PL starts in his career to date) would instantly take him into the Top 20 of the most expensive football transfers ever.
January 29, 20251 yr Reports are Al Nassr have agreed a fee with Villa for Duran AND agreed a 60mi deal with Bayer with Victor Bonniface.
January 29, 20251 yr If there is any prospect of getting rid of Disasi, together with Felix (who was bought simply as an "earner" not a tactical addition) in return for a forward (note, I do not yet call him a Striker) that actually knows where the back of the net is, I would jump at the chance.
