August 5, 20241 yr I don’t get it. Unless we’re still in for a proven striker like Osimhen and we see Samu and Guiu as second and third choices. I can’t believe we see this guy as our no.1 striker. On what basis would we be making such a call?

August 5, 20241 yr This summer has been awful. Worst one so far under this ownership. Signing Omorodion instead of Osimhen would be like if we had signed Baleba instead of Caicedo last summer. I get targeting young players with resale value, but there comes a point when enough is enough. Over £100m spent this summer on players that are not better we already have, and it isn't even about whether we can still attract needle movers, we just have taken ourselves out of that market by refusing to pay decent wages.
August 5, 20241 yr Crazy part is that player value and transfer fees look to have taken a dip this window. We’re never making money on 90% of these players. And I wonder why we can’t afford to pay the wages for players like Olise, Osimhen and Williams?

And I wonder why we can’t afford to pay the wages for players like Olise, Osimhen and Williams? Because we have so many players on the books. They cleared out all the excess of players that we had under Roman, and replaced them with even more but on less wages. Olise £45m Williams £45m Osimhen £70m £160m for 1st 11 players. Kellyman £20m KDH £25m Sanchez £25m Ugochukwu £20m Washington £10m Angelo £15m Disasi £35m Petrovic £15m £160m for squad players that will be moved on most probably at a loss in the next 2/3 years. This is the model now, loads of raw players on cheap wages, if they turn out great, it's good buisness, if they don't then it's a small loss and should be easy to move on low wages. No way we build a title challenging side with that slap dash approach.
August 6, 20241 yr So there is a domino effect going on between Gallagher, Samu and Julian Alverez, as per reports. Far as Gallagher goes he has agreed terms with Atletico. Chelsea and Atletico are in full agreement 40mill euros fixed fee, no add ons, match any accepted bid clause. Conor ready to fly to Spain, take medical and sign the deal however Chelsea have not given him the green light to so because first..... Chelsea want the green light from Atletico for Samu. He has accepted our offer, Chelsea and Atletico are in full agreement on the deal but will not allow it to progress until they get the green light from... Man City AND Alverez. Atletico have offered city a package worth 75mill euros, including add ons, for him. City have not accepted this yet and Alverez has not said yes to joining Atletico. So basically the reports say first City need to agree to sell Alverez to Atletico, and he needs to agree to join them. Once the agreement is in place (if it happens) Atletico will green light Samu to come here and we, in turn, agree to let Conor go for his medical and complete his move there.

And only 2 of those clubs come out of this better off. Atletico improve their squad with 2 players, City get 75m in pure profit, and we help Atletico by signing yet another young player who look like he has the same problems in his game that Lukaku has. How are people still on board with these owners?

They have destroyed our club to a point palmer is the only genuine bright spot i see. Protests need to come this season, and if results are as many of us are expecting then i'm sure they will.

How are people still on board with these owners? It's an appalling level of incompetence by these directors. It is at the point now that this has to be intentional. There has to be something financially corrupt going on. Nobody would invest this amount of money intentionally trying to destroy the club so it's got to be some form of money laundering scheme. As mentioned above we're not turning a profit on the vast majority of these players. I now find myself in this horrible situation where I so desperately want Clearlake to go bust, for Winstanley and Stewart to be bombed and for them all to make horrendously enormous losses and lose face to the whole world, but it spells disaster to the club if that happens. Aargh!! Edited August 6, 20241 yr by WhiteWall
August 6, 20241 yr I'm annoyed they are thinking of Osimhen and they want to bring this guy in too! Enough already...we already have too many players in midfield and in goal. sh*t defence and tbh the forward section is the only one that makes sense -ish. Lots of ifs and buts but it isn't as fkd as our defence and gk situation at least. Enough young, inexperienced players pls and just develop the ones we already have!

But I think much depends on Alvarez and how much he wants out. Cole Palmer wanted out, he was allowed to leave. Pep doesn't want players who don't want to be at the club. We'll see.
August 6, 20241 yr Athletico Madrid fans seem to think it's very short sighted for them to be selling Omorodion to fund these two deals, so I guess there's a glimmer of hope. The guy looks extremely raw though, I don't see it myself.

Same with Aston Villa, it’s like “you sign one of ours and we’ll return the favour’ and so the money circulates. It’s madness. It's about profit and loss. In just about every case you'll find the net result of the "exchange" is profit for both sides. Creative accounting -v- FFP.
August 6, 20241 yr If Alvarez is available, we should be going for him. Not enabling Atletico to do it.

Reminds me of the time we all complained about loaning Batshuayi to Dortmund so Arsenal could get Aubameyang. We did end up getting Giroud in that merry go round deal. So hopefully this Omorodion turns out just as useful.
August 6, 20241 yr I'm all for us signing players who aren't over the hill and who have a bit of hunger but this is getting f**king ridiculous. Just who is this guy FFS?
August 6, 20241 yr Author Willing to give him time but f**k me does he look like a bang average footballer. Even his video comps don't make him look good.
August 6, 20241 yr Atletico have agreed a deal worth up to 82mill for Alverez, according to sky Sports. Now all that is needed is Alverez gives the green light to the move, then Conor goes to atleti and Samu comes here. Big profit for City on 14mill they paid for Alverez.
August 6, 20241 yr On one hand I'm slightly hopeful that Atletico fans aren't too happy he's leaving but on the other if Leeds fans stalked Chelsea platforms when they signed Lewis Bate they'd think they've pulled off the new Pirlo.
August 6, 20241 yr From someone on reddit who saw him play.... Quote I did, he is someone who is used to being faster and stronger than his defenders and he knows how to utilise it. Not as good aerially as you'd think. He was standing out a lot for last year's Alaves team that wasn't particularly good and they knew how to use his pace on the counter. Technically he isn't Kane or anything but he is pretty decent (discard those who say he is "raw" and technically bad, not everyone can be a physical specimen and a world class technician). Honestly expected Atleti to use him a lot this year and give him a fair bit of starts. For all intents and purposes, Simeone wanted to use him this season and he could easily fit his tactices. Compared to let's say Guiu, he is more expensive but at the same time he is much much better and more ready. Not sure on who has the most potential of the two as it requires Marc to really work on his body, but I would not be surprised if he is the starter 2 months in the season. For 35m he is an absolute bargain and I cannot for the life of me understand why Atleti sell him so low, when any half-decent player goes for similar amounts AND they are dealing with a PL team. If it was some sort of under the table deal to get Gallagher for cheaper then sure, but imo Samu has the chance to be better by January this season, than Gallagher could ever be. Don't understand the other commenters ridiculing this transfer, this is a player who usually goes around 55-60m (especially to a PL club). Maybe Atleti know something about him and they are eager to sell him before it's shown or they might need the money to get Laporte (still doesn't explain why they couldn't get more).
August 6, 20241 yr I think we may as well keep Broja as to sign this Samuel lad. IF he was any good then Ateltico would not want to be selling him maybe? Apparently Roma looked at him as a potential Tammy Abraham replacement and Napoli considered him to replace Osimhen. So he is clearly well thought of in the realms of Serie A. But why would we bother?
August 6, 20241 yr The cycle we go through these days - Step 1. Rumours link us to unknown sh*t players. Step 2. We express our frustration and disappointment with said rumours and hope they're untrue. Step 3. Rumours surface of outrageous price tags of the said unknown sh*t players. Step 4. We express more frustration and disappointment with said rumours and hope they're untrue. Step 5. We pay outrageous money and sign said players on 7-8 year contracts. Step 6. The frustration and disappointment turn to dismay and apathy with the trajectory of the club.
